  1. http://www.rosebowlplc.com/news/lvcc-v-essex-9th-april/ LVCC v Essex - day 1After a long hard winter it was a wonderful moment watching Pothas lead Hampshire out onto the Chelmsford pitch and Kabir Ali, wearing shirt number 33, take the new ball. Ali was clearly excited about the prospect when I spoke to him a few days ago, his only regret being that it would be a while before he bowls in front of his new home crowd at The Rose Bowl. Ali’s first over for Hampshire went for a miserly 2 but caused no real alarms. At the River End James Tomlinson was straight into his stride with a tightly bowled maiden which gave John Maunders no chance to get away. In the absence of Alastair Cook who is being rested by the ECB, Essex opened with Maunders and new signing Billy Godleman. After 10 overs Essex were 40 for 0 and Hampshire had made their first bowling change, bringing in Ervine for Tomlinson, whose opening spell had gone for 19 runs. Ali was still bowling with intent from the Hayes Close End and almost had a chance when a ball kept low and appeared to squirt off Godleman’s bat into the slips, but couldn’t have carried. David Griffiths came into the attack in the 13th and after a few wayward balls found his line to finish the over impressively. And indeed it was Griffiths who made the breakthrough in the 15th when he fielded the ball off his own bowling, noticed non-striker Maunders being sent back by Godleman, and split the stumps with a direct hit. Essex were 68 for 1 after an hour of play. In the 17th Griffiths was clearly giving the batsmen trouble. After Godleman edged through the slips to reach the safety of the non-striker’s end Griffiths shaved Tom Westley’s bat a number of times before he finally made contact and Nic Pothas safely pouched the catch. Essex were 79 for 2 as Westley departed for 1. Tomlinson returned in the 20th and should have struck straight away. For the first time the ball was starting to swing and Godleman would have perished for 45 had Adams not uncharacteristically juggled the catch and dropped it at the second time of asking. 4 overs later his 50 came up, off 74 balls with 5 fours. Griffiths finished his spell with 5-1-22-1 and was replaced by Kabir Ali, clearly striving for his first Hampshire wicket. Essex proceeded very cautiously towards lunch until the 28th over when Matt Walker, having been hit on the head by Ali, released the pressure with a pair of fours off Tomlinson. Ali almost struck just before the break when an impassioned lbw appeal against Godleman (on 54) was turned down. The players went into lunch with Essex on 102 for 2.
  2. Just a reminder of some changes in the points system 16 points for a win (was 14 last season) 3 points for a draw (was 4 last season) A maximum of five batting points to be available 200 to 249 runs ................................................... 1 point 250 to 299 runs ................................................. 2 points 300 to 349 runs ................................................. 3 points 350 to 399 runs ................................................. 4 points 400 runs or over ................................................ 5 points A maximum of three bowling points to be available 3 to 5 wickets taken ............................................ 1 point 6 to 8 wickets taken .......................................... 2 points 9 to 10 wickets taken ........................................ 3 points All now within the first 110 overs in each first innings (was 120 overs last season)
  3. Adams has just dropped Godleman in the slips. Easy chance
  4. 79-2
  5. 68-1 not a bowling wicket though run out (Griffiths)
  6. Intending to cover every turnstile. Frank's Cousin and myself will be covering Turnstile 1 Itchen
  7. Might have been a good toss for Essex to lose! 60-0 of 13 overs. Long way to go though.

  9. Why are you talking to a banned poster!!!! He cannot reply
  10. Wicket looks green so no suprise Hampshire putting Essex in Team - Carberry, Adams, Dawson, McKenzie, Benham, Pothas, Ervine, Ali, Tomlinson, Griffiths, Briggs. Vince was the player left out.
  11. This is what I said on another thread. Multiple threads on the same subject are a joke!
  12. http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/frattonlatest/Pompey-star-can-play-in.6213752.jp What a farce. The club did not know that the trigger for Dindane was 22 games not 20. Someone is playing games here and I don't mean football.
  13. Good balanced post holepuncher. I particularly like the idea of the away team keeping their share of the gate ie revenue from tickets they sell to their own supporters.
  14. They won't be told! Like banging your head against a brick wall.
  15. Let us assume that earth is the product of the big bang. If other "worlds" are evolving at the same rate and we have only mastered "local" space travel they may have only reached the same level.
  16. Looks like the old Charlton ground
  17. Whoever it is deserves to be locked up for a long time. Stamping on someones head (if that is what really happened) is unforgivable. I have been, until I retired, involved in a lot of head injury cases resulting in brain damage through road accidents. The results are devistating, even if of a more minor nature, not only to the person who suffers but family and friends as well.
  18. Some very good points in the letter. Personally I am against sharing gate receipts but agree with everything else in the letter. I know we seemed to have issues with Mawhinney at the time of our Administration but he stuck to his guns and was within the league rules. He has been a plus to the FL during his tenure as Chairman. Let us hope the new Chairman can build on this and set the standards for football worldwide to follow and envy.
  19. A player always wants to develope his skills and test them at a higher level. Promotion will help but Adam knows he needs another year getting regular football with Saints. Of course if a Premier club comes in with an offer he cannot refuse then like everone else with a short high earning career he is going to be tempted and if it was considered right for him he may go. However at this stage he is only thinking of playing for Saints, this season and at least the next. He is convinced he will be playing Premier with Saints in a few years
  20. His agent is not doing that as far as I am aware. I would be careful with your accusations. If it is your opinion then preface your comment with that.
  21. He just cannot resist replying to your posts G. You should be flattered although it is getting a little boring.
  22. Lallana is not going anywhere. He wants and needs at least another season of regular football, not warming a bench. He has a year and a bit left of his contract and it would not suprise me if he was not offerred a new and better one in the close season. He is happy here You heard it here first!

  24. It was always "Come on you Saints" in the 60's Why it changed to Reds when we are red & white is anyones guess. Lets get back to Saints please.
