monkadill Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 We'd be humiliated and all the posative hype would be exposed...
BotleySaint Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 we could have lost the last two games 4-5 nil .. that'd have been a wake up call.
Micky Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Tis a bit bad when a guy, who could've been earning big bucks warming the bench at a Prem Club, appears to be our most motivated, consisitent and professional performer.
CrickladeSaint Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Kelvin, ur a legend and without u it could have been 6 tonight!!! Thank god for one with the spirit of Southampton. Now just need 10 more and we're sorted!
SN5_Saint Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 He was indeed in inspired form and yes, it could have been 4 or 5 nil. But then it could also have been 2-1 to us. We spent the majority of the game on the back foot tonight. I thought the defence as a whole stood up well to constant pressure. We weren't defending from the front and the midfield was largely awol. It feels like we need an experienced midfielder to boss things. And don't believe Pardew's hype on the OS. We were hopeless as a whole. We only came alive when the subs came on and that was far too late in the game.
David Strover Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Not only that but one of the tactics we appeared to have was pass it back to Kelvin every single time if you have the ball - don't worry if there is free player or someone wide pass it back to goalkeeper - oh and don't worry about their forward bearing down on him he'll clear it. Then fans come on here and slag his kicking and distribution. Well in my opinion as an retired goalie he must really ****ing love it where he lives because no goalie can like playing for Southampton because it doesn't matter how good you are they'll just make you look like a **** and your goals against average will never get about about 3.00 a game. We are really ****e, and I mean really ****e.
s0108787 Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Just got back. Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking, Shocking and embarrasing. Kelvin was class, although his kicking was a little off under pressure. I have never witnessed so many aimless hoof balls up into the air. We were crying out for the ball to be kept on the deck and some width. Thomson and Holmes maybe? What the **** was Paterson doing out on the right for most of the game? Melis had a shocker and appeared to supporting Lambert to little or no effect. Quite why AP waited so long to make substitutions is beyond me. Today these players looked like they had never played football before, let alone played together as a team. I hope that Hammond is the player we need to get hold of the ball and dictate the way we play (keeping the ball on the deck and making others create the angles for the pass). What is so frustrating is that we all know that the likes of Lallana & Schneiderlin are hugely talented, they just seem to be intimidated easily and put off their stride. Our team also seems to lack any intelligent movement off the ball and the players do not create space for each other. I feel depressed, not because i don't think things will get better, but because things should not be as bad as they are. It also doesn't help working next to 2 Swindon Fans. One final point. I can only assume that Wotton is in the team for his size becasue everything else about him is rubbish. He can spot a ball ok, but like many of us who can only dream of playing professionally, he will fail to play that ball 99 times out of 100. VectisSaint Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 OK, Davis kept the score respectable, but I am sorry Davis is part of the problem. He is not confident, his positioning for set pieces is suspect, his kicking is poor, and his distribution is shocking. Great shot stopper, no doubt, but a top class keeper has to show more. It is also a recipe for disaster having yur skipper in goal. Sorry if this doesn't fit the Super Kelvin Davis agenda, but some people need to wake up and see that some of the problems stem from the back. s0108787 Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Olly Lancashire played well tonight, much better than i expected. Looked more composed on the ball than i have seen him before and looked easily more assured than Thomas at times. Harding did well considering that the Swindon attackers kept doubling up on him. s0108787 Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Paterson was very lucky not to get sent off tonight, when he lunged at the Swindon player by the touchline. I had a clear view and i was expecting a red card to come out. At best you could describe it as a 'strikers tackle' but really it looked like frustration had got the better of him. I don't think it has any bearing on what was a crap display, but the Corner that Swindon scored from should have been a goal kick. Even my Swindon supporting fans agreed with me on that. Saint Fen Posted 18 August, 2009 Share Posted 18 August, 2009 Absolutely rubbish, worse than Huddersfield Saturday. Pardew didn't have a clue, 1 up front and the midfield offered no support. Set up for a 0-0 and even when they scored we never committed men forward. Lack of closing down all the time escpeically in their half. Lack of movement when we had the ball meant we had to hit long ball. Thomas is rubbish as is Lancashire and wotton. Midfield had no engine. Pardews comments on the OS just prove how blind he was, I think 3,000 of us their would have probably have changed it at half time at the latest. The fact he changed it with 10 mins to go was a joke. Swindon were poor but I thought both wingers looked good and were exactly what we lacked width, movement and pace. It is so depressing and I don't think we have a chance of a play off place. Were be lucky to stay up with the way were playing. I know its only 3 league games in but we haven't looked like winning 1 of them let alone scoring many goals or keeping a clean sheet. Creates total confusion by not coming off his line. Not enough to be a good shot stopper. Wish he'd gone to the Hammers.
OldNick Posted 19 August, 2009 Author Share Posted 19 August, 2009 (edited) Totally agree. Creates total confusion by not coming off his line. Not enough to be a good shot stopper. Wish he'd gone to the Hammers.A keeper who does all the things you crave would play in the CL not L1. Van der Sar and Reina are hardly prolofic in coming to catch the ball.Their advantage is they have some decent centre backs who dominate and so it is not a problem. That is where the problem is and has been for 5 seasons. We never replaced Killer and until we do we are not going to do any good.
