St Will Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 Still not fit enough in my opinion. No other reason why we fail to hold on EVERY game. That fitness guy obviously isn't working the players hard enough....he needs replacing.

Nexstar Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 Clearly fitness was the reason the ball hit Trottman's arm. Yes it's stockport but we hit the bar twice in 60 seconds and the ref sounded crap. Calm down.

Clearly the reason we were holding on desperately and the ball was in our box to allow the penalty to happen, was down to fitness. End of. We should have had the ball down the other end, but the players were too knackered to do anything but hoof it back and give Stockport the ball

Agreed, but we created chances today and the midfield sounded a lot better than recent weeks/months. When Murty gets back we should be solid in defence, just need another striker. When for the fourth time in just seven games you take the lead but fail to win, fitness had got to be one of the main concerns.
benjii Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 When for the fourth time in just seven games you take the lead but fail to win, fitness had got to be one of the main concerns. Why? What you do, is this: watch the games and see what the reasons are and recognise that the reasons for conceding a goal may differ from game to game. We drop deeper and deeper cuz when the other team puts us under pressure, we're too tired to pass the ball out and keep moving. So we hoof it, give it back to the other team, then all get behind the ball and sit deep and invite them onto us. Just cuz this time it was a penalty, or last time it wad the ref or a bad pass or whatever, the route cause is always the same.
ruddick Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 We have to play with these referees every week until May. We have to start taking the game by the scruff of the neck... I love this phrase - I think we just need to start taking the game by any part of it - neck or otherwise. I do agree with your post though - crap ref isn't enough excuse - we will face a lot of them for a long time unless we get angry at something else. Maybe somebody who actually went can say whether they were unable to keep the ball at the end due to fitness. Personally I think that it is more likely to do with being unable to score the goals needed to be comfortable. The ref denied a defo penalty too. Worst referee he had ever seen according to AP (but I bet he has said that a few times).

Sorry mate don't agree ... it's all psychological as far as I'm concerned. Our problems are down to mental fitness not physical fitness. We have improved the physical strength of the team but desperately need to improve the mental strength that is all important in developing a winning mentality. Mental fitness has a direct correllation with physical fitness though. If you're fit, your main stays sharper for longer.

H Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 Mental fitness has a direct correllation with physical fitness though. If you're fit, your main stays sharper for longer. You're not wrong. However, I just think our problems are down to attitude rather than tiredness (mental or physical). We defend too deep in the later stages of the game and invite the other team onto us because we don't have enough confidence in our own ability. We are scared that the other team will score rather than believing that we are better than them and good enough to win. In short, we lack nous. In my opinion this is not down to physical fitness. I also disagree that Nick Harvey is to blame for any fitness problems at the club ... surely he would just be following orders. The amount of time that is spent on fitness would not be his decision. If players weren't putting in the effort when they are working on fitness then it would not be down to him to b0110ck them, he would pass this info on to Pards or Wilkins to sort out. Besides, I've played football with him and he's a top bloke.

lordswoodsaints Posted 29 August, 2009 Share Posted 29 August, 2009 Sounds like to me that not only do we have to learn to beat ourselves,we also have to overcome the ref. Until this happens we are never going to get out of the bottom three.
