Oscar Gets England Call U19s

Or perhaps you have little idea of the standard of footballers in this country

If running up your own arse, not being able to tackle, not able to pass to another team mate or stay on your feet is the standard then the national game is doomed.

Bambi on ice IMO.

How about doing it for your club before doing it for your country.

If you look at the squad, with exception of Nathaniel Clyne hardly any of the players have made more than one or two appearances for their club. Perhaps you don't know much about assessing whether a player is any good or not. Just a thought.

I think the 'U19' bit in the team title may well answer that question .

There are plenty of young players, past and present who have or are doing it for their clubs before doing it for their country.

I just don't think he is good enough to represent England,he hasn't done anything to justify his call up,so what do they base the call up on? He has impressed for all of 10 minutes in his saints career.

I thought he seemed to have quite a lot of potential. Another kid who might just make it if brought through the right way. I wonder if I've got the right player in view of Lordswoodsaints comments-or whether he has! Getting in the England squad is a great achievement for him and for our academy not least bearing in mind the league we're in.

So what other U19s have impressed you and should take Gobern's place in the U19s squad

I'm pretty sure they would base it on more than just his appearences for us this season. Maybe the fact that he was voted the 2nd best youngster in the football league last season?

Maybe the fact that for an 18yr old he forced his way into a starting position against Man United last season.

However, just to prove that you are indeed correct and that he doesn't deserve his call up and that as you say, there are many young players presently doing it for their clubs, go name your England U19 squad if you were in charge.

When you are struggling you can admit you are wrong. Unless of course your knowledge of youngsters and their potential is better than the England coaches.

Good luck to him. This will give him lots of confidence. I'm sure we will see lots of him next season, if not this. Turned the game on its head against Preston last season. Some people have short memories. He is a Saints player involved with England. YOU SHOULD BE PROUD!!!

Well done Oscar, he is definately one of our up and coming players, support the boy now or he will be offski to somewhere who appreciates him just when he is coming into his prime. It is also a stick to beat the French under 21 manager with, if Oscar can play for England from this league so can Morgan play for the France.

One of our players has been given a great chance and all we can do is criticise, it's pathetic. Good luck to the lad, hope he makes the most of it and comes back pushing the first team for a starting place.

got to agree ,i remember kenweyne jones being the same raw talent at 19 and saw him progress year on year, hes turned into some player.

OG was thrown into the first team last season before he was ready. He was 17 FFS!! Didn't stop him from nearly winning the FA Apprentice of the year (against 16/17 year olds from ALL Premier and Coca Cola League teams). Will be a very good player, he has already grown and filled out from last season and will get better with decent coaches bringing him on gradually.
