RonManager Posted 11 September, 2009 Share Posted 11 September, 2009 (edited) Anyone looking for a different way to get there, I've just researched the Thames River Ferry timings. There is a half hour service from the Embankment to either the O2 centre or the Woolwich Arsenal Pier, both destinations leaving you with about a 2 mile walk to the ground. I shall be aboard the 1228 from the Embankment which gets me to the O2 arena pier at 1318, plenty of time to amble down to the ground. Fare £3-5 single adult; £1.50 - £2.50 child http://www.tfl.gov.uk/modalpages/2648.aspx Edited 11 September, 2009 by RonManager

zsaint Posted 11 September, 2009 Share Posted 11 September, 2009 By the way Ron, if you have a London travelcard for the day you will get a discounted fare.
RonManager Posted 11 September, 2009 Author Share Posted 11 September, 2009 By the way Ron, if you have a London travelcard for the day you will get a discounted fare. My plan is to get the early train to Paddington, then walk down to the river in a 'touristy' way. I am intending to get the ferry back from Woolwich Pier and then walk back to Paddington, perhaps enjoying a meal en route to celebrate our first win of the season. I plan to drive to Chalton dump the car early doors and get the tickets, over to Greenwich for a skin full. Watch the football, celebrate our first win popping pound coins in the pint glass up the Griffin and then drink drive all the way home.

I may just do that on the return journey, being interested in that sort of stuff. Never let it be said that I am not appreciative of a fine Victorian Tunnel. I think it's going to be thoroughly modernised soon ,probably not in a very constructive way, I know that they've put mobile phone coverage in, buggers can't even walk 500 yards without using their mobiles. zsaint Posted 11 September, 2009 Share Posted 11 September, 2009 Dont get me wrong. I am also quite partial to train to waterloo, tube to vauxhall, walk through the park (you know where this is going, dont you ?), beers in the Queen Anne and onwards to random London game. Culture works in mysterious ways. Repeat after game in reverse.
Ash Posted 11 September, 2009 Share Posted 11 September, 2009 How difficult is it to park the car near the ground? The away ground guide site is quite vague. Otherwise, does anyone know the nearest train station with car parking facilities? Much love x x x

Parking is easy, just don't get too ambitious and be prepared for about a 10-15 minute walk.

It may be if you know your way around, but the last time I went by car was a bleeding nightmare, eventually parked in a dodgy street miles away and was lucky to find it on the way back ! Ps. and we lost as usual !
