OldNick Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 As a winger, made Terry Curran look like a quality signing IMHOI only ever saw Curran look any good on two occoasions.Leeds when he scored to put us in the final and then against us when he played for Everton in that cruel game as he nullified Mark Dennis's attacking threat. Those were the days, we used to count the number of crosses that Curran made that found a Saints player. Apart from his goal during his career at home we had the count of crosses at - 1 Had a similar thing when Benali was at Left-back - Mr Distribution Or when Russell Osman did NOT HOOF the ball upfield Or when George Lawrence played an intelligent ball....... those were the days

Unfortunatly i would be standing on the terraces at the back of the Archers.

Whitey Grandad Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 Steady on i'm only 29. Was this Curran individual as good as Neil Heaney? Heaney was never the same after that mistake at Anfield. I can't quite remember exactly what it was, can anyone remind me?
dubai_phil Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 (edited) Lawrence would go on a great run beating 4 defenders before skillfully crossing the ball to me. Unfortunatly i would be standing on the terraces at the back of the Archers. I forget who it was, but a coach at Saints at the time said George Lawrence is, without a doubt, the greatest footballer since Pele........ ...................... From the shoulders down. (In fact we often wonder how he remembers to actually breathe....) was the more PC gist of the next line.) Never knew which gave us a bigger buzz that night, the fact we had got to Wembley OR the utter shock that Curran had managed to swing his leg in the right direction to send the ball towards the net rather than Southampton General Hospital (and yep it was scored at the Archers)
Victor Posted 16 September, 2008 Share Posted 16 September, 2008 If only you were exaggerating,he was poor, but his goal was crucial and many fans didnt rate Bobby Stokes and his goal was priceless. Before the final I said Bobby was the one player I'd rather not see in the team, but he had a good final with several other chances before he scored so that I said 'if he scores, I will personally write to him and apologise'. He did, but I didn't. If you're reading this, Bobby - sorry, and thanks!

I'm assuming you have been hearing 'two differnet stories' about Bobby's death?
