Wembley congestion

Anybody got any experience of new Wembley traffic congestion?

I`ve got official parking next to the stadium, is it gridlock or OK?

Whats the north circular likely to like?

Sensible time to leave from Soton would be?

Apologies if this has been done on some other thread.

It was fine when I went to the American Football last October, and that had 90,000 in the stadium. Left at the final whistle and was on the M3 within an hour. Was parked in the official multistory. Took me 20 minutes to get in to the car park before the match.

Not 30,000 odd people all going in the same direction then though! Same with England games, people disburse using all the routes.

i will be getting a bus to about a mile away from the stadium and walking the rest. the north circular is a nightmare most sunday afternoons, and with the additional 75k people in the area, i expect walking away from the stadium a far quicker alternative to sitting in a large circular carpark

When I saw Metallica at Wembley I used unofficial parking at a shed over the road from the stadium, took about an hours to get away from the ground. Once you get away however its buisness as usual. Might not be that way on Sunday however because most people will be heading back to Southampton.

As someone who lives in NW London, I can't say enough about avoiding the North Circular around Wembley, Neasden, Willesden, Brent Cross, Hendon as well as the dreaded Hangar Lane roundabout etc. It's gridlock at the best of times.

I'd personally recommend NOT DRIVING!

Get the train to Waterloo, Northern Line to Golders Green then 83 bus to the stadium. Nobody gets the 83, it quietly pops up at Wembley Central station in 20 minutes and you're at Wembley Way. Bosh.

Jubilee Line's down from Finchley Road upwards. Which includes Wembley. Same goes for the Metropolitan Line. Basically, that mucks everything up.

However saying that, I think the Bakerloo's ok so you could get to Wembley Central, but that will be busy as **** as everyone clambers onboard to get south.

I'll be heading in from M4 direction so hopefully not too bad driving, not that it matters as I shall be drinking(not driving)

Why have they scheduled engineering works when there is a massive game on at Wembley? Particularly a southern side, who will clearly not have all of their fans coming up on coaches? I guess I'll be getting the Bakerloo then, is Wembley Central much of a walk from the stadium itself? As you say, going to be a bit of a nightmare getting back down South!

I drove to the summer Wembley game when England played and there was a tube strike. This should have provided the worst possible traffic scenario, I would think. It was very slow M25 onwards - took about 2 1/2 hours to get there from Basingstoke. After the match it was complete gridlock for an hour but then the traffic magically cleared and it was straight home. It was an evening match though. I plan to pop into Wembley Central for a bit to eat after the match as long as there is no limit on the time to leave the car park.

Good alternative is to park at High Wycombe and get the train to Wembley Stadium (30 mins, trains every 20 minutes). If travelling from south take A33 to M4 junction 11 (Reading) then M4 to Junction 8/9 and A404 to Wycombe.

Much less hassle than trying to park near Wembley.

Trains wil be rammed even with the extra carriages on but when I was working at Wembley (I drew all the pipework & mechanical services, sorry to name drop & it wasn't my fault it was late - blame the Aussies!) I got the train to Waterloo, undeground (Bakerloo line) to Marylebone & train from Marylebone to Wembley Central. Don't go to Wembley Park. Much further to walk.

Can i ask any knowledgeable (sp) ones out ther the best route by rail and underground from Rochester please?

Just aim for London Victoria, then Marylebone, then to Wembley Stadium as above. I think you can also train to St Pancras instead of Victoria, then to Marylebone, etc.

Double checked & you can do as I've said. 1.5hrs.

I've just looked into that. The journey planner says there will be 2 changes and a duration of 1h 30m - 1h 40m. Typical that every f'kin train route is utter **** the day we're at Wembley.

I think Marylebone is favourite at the moment. Any other ideas?

I'll be driving down alongside all of the Carlisle mob I would have thought. I have booked an official space but expect it to be a nightmare getting out. I was going to get the train but some friends who supported Villa in the League Cup Final said it was a nightmare getting back to the station and that there were delays on the way down - also a Sunday - so I've resigned myself to a long wait in the car. Fine if we win but if we lose ......

Best option if you're driving is M3,M25 round to J16 go east on M40 come off at J1 ( Denham ) 5 mins to Denham station, plenty of parking and 2 stops on train to Wembley.

Easy peasy

Same.

Missus and I leaving early in the morning to pick up 2 friends then a drive to Denham Station to catch the 09:16 train to Wembley Stadium station. Few beers at The Green Man, The Game, then a couple of beers after to let the majority of traffic disapate before heading back to Denham for the tee total Missus to drive us all home.

Happy days! :)

You checked times to Wembley Central (which involves changing at Marylebone and travelling on the underground), check times to Wembley Stadium and you should find a travel time of 30 minutes

Oh right, thanks for the info mate. I was thinking of driving to hillingdon and getting the tube, but the traffic would be a lot worse than HW.

cheers

I'm parking at the stadium as well and there's no congestion charge of a weekend in London so I'm making the assumption that there won't be any congestion otherwise we'd get charged right? If I'm wrong I'm gonna be writing to Boris :D

The stadium is outside of the congestion zone so there is no problem on that score.

As for travel-we are staying at a travelodge on the M4 on Saturday evening which means we can have a bit of a lay in before heading to Wembley where we are booked into the ibis hotel on Sunday. Job done!! :)

Woo hoo - you've heard it here now. Sibster says no congestion at Wembley on Sunday - result!!

Sibster, can you post your mobile number so we can text you / chat to you if you're wrong and we're sat in traffic? :D

Tube details - this appears to be the definitive word

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/tfl/livetravelnews/realtime/by-date.aspx?offset=3

Set the date to Sun (duh!) - coloured-in lines are closed/disrupted - greys are normal service.

Metropolitan Line - Kings Cross (St Pancras) to Baker Street (6mins), and Baker Street to Wembley Park (13 mins) for me.

Sorry for the late notice but I have 2 spare tickets from Canterbury West to St Pancras on the new fast train (50 mins) leaving at 08-20 and return from London at 18.30, I bought a saver 4 thing on the off chance of picking up 2 xtra tkts but that's not happening. FREE in exchange for a couple of pints and if anybody can use them

Tractor saint.

I didn't say that there would be NO congestion-just that any you do encounter will be toll-free!! Anyway we are hopefully going to avoid it all by going most of the way on Saturday evening (I am refereeing in Wessex League during the afternoon and going up after) and then staying over on Sunday to avoid the return traffic.

Even if we do get a bit stuck it will be worth it as long as we make the kick off :)
