Gemmel Posted 6 March, 2011 Share Posted 6 March, 2011 Just reading Alan Sugar's autobiography and after he took over Spurs found out about some illegal payments and transfers that had happened prior to him taking over and informed the FA. This was 1994 The FA very kindly fined Spurs 1.5 million and deducted them 12 points. In his book he was informed y the FA, that he sould be grateful it was only 12, as a Director of Southampton FC, who was on the FA panel that heard the case, was pushing for a 24 point deduction. Would this have been Askham or does anybody know which of our Directors worked for the FA as well? I know that lowe was heaviliy involved in football in the football chairmens association but this was before his time (Another quote from the book was Sugar explaining he wasn't "One of the farmers from the middle of nowehere type Chairman" - which i took as a swipe at lowe)
positivepete Posted 6 March, 2011 Share Posted 6 March, 2011 Wiseman I suspect, he was chairman of the FA at some time I think
Badger Posted 6 March, 2011 Share Posted 6 March, 2011 Did such illegal payments concern their signing of Ruddock by chance ? I also wondered if the Ruddock episode might have influenced the Saints director in seeking retribution by way of a 24pt deduction.

Apparently a tribunal takes into account the amount of wages that the buying club are prepared to pay so as to get an idea of how they value their new player. Spurs told porkies about the size of Ruddock's wages - which led to us getting a lower fee.
Fowllyd Posted 7 March, 2011 Share Posted 7 March, 2011 I'd think the 'farmer from the middle of nowhere' jibe is more likely to be directed at Ken Bates.
Pat from Poole Posted 7 March, 2011 Share Posted 7 March, 2011 Wiseman was secretary of the FA or similar post. I don't think Wiseman was in any position to be a moral authority after being one of the direct beneficiaries of the Secure Retirement reverse takeover. Although at the time he wasn't to know the shares would ultimately become worthless in 2009.
