Alain Perrin Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 Good article here from the Peterborough's local paper contrasting the run in's for League 1 contenders. Worth a read ( http://www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk/sport/football/peterborough-united/posh_promotion_prediction_posh_to_just_miss_out_on_automatic_promotion_1_2513109 ) I always worry when people start threads predicting our next X results - invariably we end up underperforming against the prediction. I wonder if he is trying to curse us!! I do agree that Bournmouth may struggle though. Too close to call otherwise between Saints / Posh and Hudders in my opinion. --------------- SOUTHAMPTON Current position: 4th Current points: 61 Matches remaining: 12 v Sheff Wed (h) W v Charlton (a) W v Plymouth (a) W v Mk Dons (h) W v Charlton (h) W v Leyton O (a) D v Rochdale (a) D v Bristol R (h) W v Brighton (a) D v Hartlepool (h) W v Brentford (a) D v Walsall (h) W Predicted points: 89 Predicted finish: 2nd Summary: The Saints have the quality and depth in their squad to cope with a busy end-of-season schedule. They also have the experience to cope with the pressure and expectation of being the favourites for automatic promotion. Posh will need ‘favours’ from Charlton, MK Dons and Brighton if they are to pip Southampton to second place. It could well boil down to goal difference and Saints currently lead Posh by seven goals. doddisalegend Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 Amazing they don't have any of the top four losing another game this season (other than hudders losing to Brighton) I'd be pretty surprised if Saints, Brighton, Posh and Hudders only lost one more game between the four of them this season. Vastly underestimate Orient there, they will finish 5th or 6th.We will lose at Brighton and probably at Orient as well. We'll win 9 out 12 and still be second. RobM Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 I don't agree with their predictions of us vs Charlton and MK Dons, which I think will be a loss and a draw respectively, but otherwise I think they have it about right. I hope I'm wrong and they are right... it's just a hunch I have.
Window Cleaner Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 I think we will lose at orient, brighton and draw away to charlton...we will win the rest IMO 9 of 12 is all that we need, 88 points and a stonking GD will be enough. We have 9 winnable games +1 that is winnable so if we should fail it will be because we haven't controlled the controlables and even then we still have the "Dogs Chance" of the play-offs. The9 Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 In my decidedly un-humble opinion, I think Huddersfield are going to gradually fall apart in the next month or two, with them and Bournemouth scrapping over the last two play-off places with Orient. A Pugh injury would just about do for AFCB just like a Lallana one did for us for a while. 1 Brighton 2 Saints ------- 3 Peterborough 4 MK Dons 5 Huddersfield 6 Leyton Orient -------- 7 AFC Bournemouth

Saintmike666 Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 Just wandered what peoples predictions are for the run in fixtures, Here's mine. Saintandy666 Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 Would be good if it happened my similarly named friend. Will be interesting to keep hold of this thread in the next few weeks editing it as results come in...
itchen_dan Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 Very realistic IMO. We do have a pretty decent run in but I can see us beating Brentford and snatching something at the Withdean.

If results up to then have gone our way we might write off the Brighton game unless we can catch them.Unless Morgan is fit again I doubt that it's winnable anyway. SNSUN Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 I still think anything less than 9 wins will equal play-offs. Funny how people are tipping us to lose the Orient and Brighton games - I still think we're better than both those teams, irrespective of Brighton's position and Orient's recent form - and we'll end up blowing it at home against Hartlepool or Bristol Rovers or someone. 12 wins out of 12 would be bloody awesome preparation for an nPC challenge next season. It can be done. Why not?
SNSUN Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 I think we'll get something out of both Brighton and Orient games, as I've mentioned on the other thread, Saints are more likely to win both of those and blow it to one (or god forbid more) of the so called lesser teams. NickG Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 One of my stats! From another thread today but shows we have reason for confidence, it was in reply to concerns about how the new Peterborough under Fergie are doing great..: Fergie been there for 14 games He has done excellently. 14 games, 41 goals for, 18 against, amazing 29 points. However, Saints last 14 games, 32 for, 11 against, 30 points.
bjk Posted 18 March, 2011 Share Posted 18 March, 2011 We should pick up maximum points from most of those games but for me,Charlton,Orient and Plymouth away are potential defeats. If Plymouth still need points for survival on May 2nd that could be a very difficult game,Orient are now a very tough team to beat and Charlton away for some reason always worries me. Charlton have got a new keeper on loan to replace the one they had on loan from Fulham, hope that doesn't make them instantly better then.
Alain Perrin Posted 18 March, 2011 Author Share Posted 18 March, 2011 Mods - as the starter of the thread I know this sounds strange, but please delete it. Far too many predictions in here. It'll curse us I tell ye!
