As the thread title says :(

I can call landlord tomorrow but guessing someone wont come out til next week so hoping there something I can do in the meantime.

The thermostat is turned to 0C (this is in my hallway). The digital timer for the heating is in the airing cupboard(bathroom) and ive set that to "off", but heating is still on. Only way ive got it to turn off is by turning a dial that has "0 to 5" on it on the boiler (kitchen) to 0 (assuming this is hot water temp?).

Anyway, that seems to have killed it, but obviously no hot water once the hot water tank in the airing cupboard goes cold.

Any ideas?

help!

It may be that the motorised valve is jammed in the heating position? I'm no C.H. expert but I'd be inclined to giving it a sharp tap with a hammer and listen to hear if you can hear it modulating back to rest.

Do hold the valve/pipe assemby when you tap it so you don't cause a leak.

The boiler stat only controls the boiler temperature.

Tap the fireman dip flange with a demodulated two-bit din hammer. If that doesn't do the trick then splooge a clarky-cap onto the wizard's pole.

Near the bottom of pic 1, See the plastic grey White box on a copper pipe with a White cable leading up to the timer. Give the pipe below it a whack whilst holding the pipe.

It may also have a tiny manual leaver which you can move but will slowly return to it original position.

It is the autatic valve that directs hot water to the water tank or the radiators.

Where's Junction 9 when you need him. He's done loads of favours sorting out this kind of thing for Board members in the past. I'm sure, if you pm him, baj, he'll fit you into his busy schedule.

Thanks guys, was just on the phone to Eastleighsoulboy so went over this and did the tapping of the valve, which made it start vibrating and humming, but didnt fix anything, so think its time for an engineer :(

Could be one of many things but I had a similar problem once, cleared it by carefully removing the dial from the thermostat and blowing out the dust / dirt from inside.

Im pretty sure its nothing to do with the thermostat since the thermostat goes to the digital control box, and if i set the digital control box thingy to HEATING OFF, it's still on, but like you said, could be one of many things. Someones coming out today I think.

I'm sure things are made to be complicated these days so that you have to call out the 'professionals'!

My hot water stopped working Monday morning. I called the heating system company that installed it just over 2 years ago (so just outside its warranty) and then called the landlady with the call out costs. She didn't want to shell out that though and wanted to get 'her man' to look at it. He came on Tuesday, had no idea what it was and suggested I got someone more knowledgeable in! FFS, another day wasted. Got the company I initially called in to look at it, finally got it fixed yesterday.
