SuperMikey Posted 30 April, 2011 Share Posted 30 April, 2011 So, now we know which teams are relegated from the Championship, we can start the inevitable "which players can we nick from them?" thread. I think we should be looking out for a goalkeeper, a full back (either RB or LB), a centre back, a central midfielder and maybe a striker. Scunny Josh Wright - CM (Nigel has said in an interview previously he rates him very highly) Michael Raynes - CB (Big strong centre back - Jaidi's successor? We were linked when he was at Stockport) David Mirfin - CB (Another big strong centre back, more experienced than Raynes but older) Sheff Utd Stephen Quinn - CM (Creative midfielder, can also play out wide on the left) Ched Evans - ST (Tall, fast striker. Welsh international and tipped for big things) Stephen Jordan - LB (Experienced, solid left-back who works very hard) Preston Sean St. Ledger - CB (Irish international, strong and reliable. Would be great alongside Fonte) Billy Jones - RB/CM (Crewe academy graduate, been solid in the Champ for a while now and still young) Paul Hayes - ST (Nigel had him at Scunny, if Barney ends up doing time then he'd be a very good replacement) None of those players would be particularly cheap, but any of them would improve our squad and have vital Championship experience that some of our players don't have. saint_bert Posted 1 May, 2011 Share Posted 1 May, 2011 The Sheffield United RB is highly rated. Scored a goal yesterday.
Griffo Posted 1 May, 2011 Share Posted 1 May, 2011 Keith Treacy from Preston. Their best player.

Mowgli Posted 1 May, 2011 Share Posted 1 May, 2011 Personally. I think we should be looking at the clubs dropping out of the Premiership and getting one or two around the 30's mark who would be prepared to take a drop in wage in return for a Championship medal. They will add experience to the younger players already at Saints who are our future PL stars.
SaintNeil90 Posted 1 May, 2011 Share Posted 1 May, 2011 Having watched Sheffield United over the course of the season I wouldnt sign any of the players you have mentioned. Quinn's passing is atrocious, Evans nevers scores and Jordan hardly even played for them, even got sent out on loan. Lee Williamson would be a good signing, as would Henderson. Super_Uwe Posted 1 May, 2011 Share Posted 1 May, 2011 Keith Treacy from Preston. Their best player. Spot on. Has blown a bit hot and cold but has genuine quality. I'd have him signed up in a flash if we could; he can play both left or right and is two-footed as well.
Ewell Posted 1 May, 2011 Share Posted 1 May, 2011 My suggestion for a new centre midfield player next season would be to get Jimmy Bullard from Hull. He has gone on loan to Ipswich played 16 matches and been named their player fo the season, incredible impact. If fit he is far too good for The Championship. At 45K a week and with 2 years left on his contract at Hull I'd think that Bullard to Saints is an utter non-starter, above all for a 33 year old. The very reason he left Fulham for Hull was about money and a very long contract which Fulham weren't prepared to give him. As Hull look to be saving money on him by all means possible I guess his final 2 years with them will be seen out with a series of short term loans. Not to Saints though because we won't pay 45K a week to anybody for the time being..
