Professor Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Can we clear up a couple of questions about Dale: 1. He is constantly referred to as being 21 (birthday is in December) so that would make his birth year 1989, but it appears that he was actually born in 1987 and is 23, not 21. Anyone any confirmation if this is right? The two years from 21 to 23 could reflect quiite a difference in a player's football development and his value, so getting this factually correct would help fans make their judgement. 2. There are reports about competition for Dale's signature from Everton, Leeds and Bolton, which may be true, or may be Oldham talking the player up to boost his value but for someone playing in L2 last season, Dale has made good progess to get into the Saints side that did so well in April. Is he good enough for the NpC so should Saints be signing him?

Joesaint Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 I rate him and hope we get him.
kelkel31 Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 anybody who watched the play off match(swansea/forrest) will tell you he is far to slow to play at the upper levels of the NPC, his footwork as with hammond is far too slow and we will struggle starting with either of those 2 next year. Weston Saint Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Oldham Profile has him as 12/12/89. Think it is safe to say he is 21. Is he good enough? Not from his showings on the pitch so far. Said to have technical skills. Could develop in the right hands (Saints). The club will know what to do.
Saint_clark Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Antonio was average when he came here, he flourished after he was given some time. I'd sign him on a years deal.
Chez Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Antonio was average when he came here, he flourished after he was given some time. I'd sign him on a years deal. not sure there was much difference between the Antonio that came and the Antonio that left, oh at Stephens isn't going to leave Oldham for a one year deal with us. John McGrath's Jockstrap Posted 17 May, 2011 Share Posted 17 May, 2011 Not sure why the Echo are talking DS up re "stiff competition to sign him"....this sounds like classic agent talk to get Saints to show the colour of their money. For what its worth I am not sure if he will fit the 2 year plan to get into PL - he looks like an average minus type Schneiderlin player to me. We need power and creativity in CM next year not somebody warming the bench. Adkins I am sure will make the right decision - he sees things that he does every day in training. But for me we need players eg Pratley, Danns and similar ilk.
Professor Posted 18 May, 2011 Author Share Posted 18 May, 2011 12/12/89 according to OS! http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/ProfilesDetail/0,,10280~39236,00.html Thing is - can you belive something just because it's on the OS. Try:- http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Category:1987_births&from=S&pagefrom=Spiller%2C+C.J.%0AC.+J.+Spiller and:- http://www.worldfootball.net/spieler_profil/dale-stephens/ and:- http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/d/droylsden/7010173.stm Dale played for North Walkden FC in Manchester from where he signed pro with Bury in Feb 2007. According to the BBC web page he was 19 years old when he went on loan to Droylesden FC in Sept 2007, making Dec 2007 his 20th birthday and meaning that he would be 23 now. Maybe someone confused his birth year of 1987 at some point by incorrecting showing it as 1989 and the mistake has been carried on ever since. So is he really 21? We should be told!! Turkish Posted 18 May, 2011 Share Posted 18 May, 2011 Does it really matter? He doesn't play for us anymore, well at the moment anyway.
