redkeith Posted 22 May, 2011 Share Posted 22 May, 2011 How many players from the squad that was mismanaged, by popular opinion, into the Championship play offs would get into the current squad ? For me,the obvious choices are Bale and Kenwyne Jones. I thonk that our centre-Halfs are much stronger, while Butterfeild is much better than Ostlund/Wright, and Chris Baird played out of position all season in the middle. Surnam might be a good foil for Morgan in the middle of the park, but Oxo and Lallana are far better than Viafara and Skacel. Up front, Rasiaks goals might be handy, but I honestly think that only Bale. Jones and perhaps Surnam would be first team starters in our current line up. What do you reckon ? Davis Richardson Fonte Baird Bale Oxo Scheiderlin Viafara Lallana Jones Lambert Hell yeah! That's one hell of team. Think you're harsh on Viafara, he was quality that season. The only one I'm not sure on is Jones, can't remember how good he was at the time.

Also Viafara was total quality and "I sorry I spoil the party," is one of my all time greatest Saints memories. I wouldn't swap it for the world he was such a passionate guy. James Posted 22 May, 2011 Share Posted 22 May, 2011 Jones was really good that season. Also, if we are going on how good they were at the time, then I'd potentially have Saga in over Lambert. I know Saga was crap in our second Championship season (once he'd signed permanently) but he was quality during our run to 6th.
(not THE) Kevin Moore Posted 22 May, 2011 Share Posted 22 May, 2011 Viafara was total w@nk APART from that memorable 2nd leg play off game. He was all effort and industry and a solid tackler but there is NO point winning the ball back if with your very next pass you give the ******* thing away again!! Idiakez was three times the player Viafara was, his trouble was he was playing on one leg by the time he signed for us and it affected both his availability and his mobility when he played. Any list that misses out Belmadi is also going to wrong, he was bloody brilliant (pretty sure he was still around at the time of the playoffs... but we went through SO many players in those few seasons I lose track so I could be wrong)!! mitch01 Posted 22 May, 2011 Share Posted 22 May, 2011 Baird was phenomenal that season, would take him back in a flash. Pleased to see he's doing well in the Prem.
Saint Malc Posted 22 May, 2011 Share Posted 22 May, 2011 I have to agree with (not THE) regarding Viafara. He was excellent at Pride Park for the play off game but absolute sh1te for the rest of the time. But you had to love him for his effort and enthusiasm for 100% of the time. Northant Saint Posted 22 May, 2011 Share Posted 22 May, 2011 When on form, I think we had a much better strike force that season. Saga, Rasiak, Jones, all quality players back then.
