saint lard Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 Thinking of making a purchase of a cheapish,£1k,scooter. Seen some brand new peugot ones, which look ok. Only needed as a runaround. I trust you just need a provisional license, tax etc Would consider buying a second hand one,but seeing as a new one is reasonable thought that better. Anone got any suggestions of other makes, piaggio i think is one. Don't need anything fancy or complicated, just modern looking in style. Any advice on any of the above would be appreciated. Thankyou. badgerx16 Posted 30 August, 2011 Share Posted 30 August, 2011 You may need to do the CBT : http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/LearnerAndNewDrivers/RidingMotorcyclesAndMopeds/DG_4022430 Scooters are classed as mopeds, so it depends on whether you have a full car licence, and for how long you have held it. swannymere Posted 1 September, 2011 Share Posted 1 September, 2011 A cheap scooter can be a liability in terms of trying to get spare parts for them, join a scooter or moped forum and they'll let you know what the aftersales and spares situation is. There were alot of dirt cheap MX style bikes doing the rounds at around £7-800 new, loads of people bought them and then found there was no spares backup! Better to buy a year old model from Honda/Suzuki/Aprilia/Yamaha etc.
Gd Posted 4 September, 2011 Share Posted 4 September, 2011 I bought myself a yamaha ybr 125 a few weeks ago because I couldn't afford a second car and I love it. However I used to ride a Piaggio x9 125 which is bigger than your average scooter and very comfortable and was very reliable and loved that too. But I'd go with a bike much more fun and easier to repair.
