Sounds like he is back in training from the OS.

Ive got a feeling he could make a difference, maybe in the same way Marsden used to. He sounds like a committed player who wants to hassle people and get stuck in, maybe a more mobile Wotton.

After the absolute slagging off he got when he signed it would be great for him to prove people wrong.

He also sounds like a crock who has managed about 20 first team appearances in over five years for 7 different clubs.

Pinning our hopes on him to make the difference is somewhat clutching at straws.

Not knocking him, just can't see how he will be able to be the difference we need (and always happy to eat humble pie).

We sold them a crock, they sold us a crock, only difference ? We got over million quid for ours and they didn't.

I really hope your sure about the amount of money we are meant to get one day....Best to wait and see the accounts next year...I would not believe anything about Saints at the mo.....Just something a bloke told me down the pub.

Pulis well....bring back Ali Dia or whatever his name was.....Same sort of hope for the future.

Keep cleaning those windows my friend. Keep up the good work.

I take great exception at a comparison with such a superb professional as Chrissie Marsden. It's the sublime insult to Chris, to his memory as a Saints player, and who for me, and I'm sure a lot of others, was one of the last true pros to play for this club who gave everything when he played and led as captain by example. Pulis is light years from every being a Chris Marsden.

The only comparison I can see is the final few months that Chris played at St Mary's when he was under great duress and suffering severe injury.

Urggghhh!!!!

Marden was our anchorman after Le Tissier. Both players made us tick.

During his time here there will be only one thing that he'll be remembered for, the groans around the stadium every time his name is mentioned on the team sheet.

If I'm proved wrong I will put my hands up........but I'm very,very confident that I won't be.

To be fair to the original poster I don't think he was directly comparing Marsden to Pulis. Personally, I don't expect Pulis to make much impact, but I do remember people questioning why Dave Jones was signing a fringe player from Birmingham City. I was living in Brum at the time and remember some blue-noses rubbing their hands with glee at the £800,000 Saints shelled out for him. The rest, as they say, is history.

Heres hoping Pulis exceeds expectations, mine included, its nice to see just a glimmer of hope here from some contributors.

Harvey - read my post again. I'm not expecting miracles or even any extra points due to the Pulis signing, merely making more general point about the reactions to transfers over the years.

I'm resisting hard to enter personal arguments on a mere web-site, but its that kind of repsonse that doesn't seek to engage or reason (rather just put down a belittle any opininion even appraoching or toying with a minority position) that probably deters many, myself included, from posting regularly on this board.

You're quite right and I apologize, that reply was rather below the belt.

I see what you're saying my friend, but to me things are more Black and White...I didn't mean to seam offensive.

**** off back to TMS ;)

Whoops...supposed to be serious here aren't we? Well i say never judge a book by it's cover...although of course the reviews on the back are to be taken into consideration. However people that slag a player off before even seeing him play are to my mind probably people to be avoided...how their wives put up with the negativity i have no idea...

Fcuhk me, so here's a player who is 24, has already played at 5 clubs under numerous managers/coaches and who has made 20 league appearances in the lower reaches, and just because people doubt he will be our saviour they get branded as being negative.

If he was any good he wouldn't be anywhere near us.

Get in the real world.

I think that your intuition is probably right, maybe you should avoid me.

Btw, Pulis will still be a failure, whether you like it or not.

LMFAO.

So how many quality players have we signed recently????

Don't you think that there are many more clubs who could offer him more wonga than us, and who could offer him more than a relegation battle with some kids????

We have fallen from grace, we do not command the same respect we used to and we do not attract quality players any more.

Get used to it.

On that premise nobody with any ability or promise would go anywhere other than the top clubs!

Schneiderlin and Holmes would both IMO hold there own in pretty much every team in this league IMO

Maybe we are not the attraction we once were, but doesnt mean all the players we sign are utter crap does it, especially considering this thread is about one we have never seen pull on a Saints shirt

But there's a pretty good chance that you are pretty crap (relatively speaking of course) if you're 24, been through 5 clubs and numerous managers and have only made 20 league appearances (all in the lower leagues).

Of course there will always be the odd late developer or unearthed gem out there, along with youngsters who didn't make it with their first club, but Pulis doesn't fit any of those criteria.

If he was the player who would make such a difference to our team, then I contend he wouldn't even be here in the firstplace.

Also to add to the Pulis argument, 3 of the 5 clubs he played for his father was manager! Come on guys get real, 8 years as professional football player and you have had 5 clubs and 20 appearances some of which were as sub.

If he had 5 clubs and say 150 appearances then it might be aceptable.

Shall we give him a chance?

Or lynch him a-la-Jermaine Wright?

Can see it now, comes into the team, struggles, gets booed, confidence shot forever and scared to make a mistake. I would be happy if he came in and just kicked a few people about, showed we aren't a team of soft kids!

Moi, a defeatist?????

I've got us down as winning tomorrow in the prediction thread and have had many barnies with some whingers who think we have never been that great and should settle for life in the second tier.

I'm actually very positive and generally optimistic, but that doesn't mean I'm fcufking stupid when it comes operating in the real world.

Do you want o take a wager on how many first team appearances Pulis will make in hi sSaints career????

Give the guy a chance.

It's harsh to judge him before he's even kicked a ball.

Whilst his CV isn't that great, the lad deserves a chance to prove himself.

If he turns out to be absolute cack then so be it, but criticising him before he's made an appearance is foolish.

Personally I don't think he'll do anything for us, but I would love to be proved wrong.

Maybe a fresh start playing in a youthful side will bring out the best in him. Only time will tell.

I understand all these things. But i still reserve the right withold judgement. Somebody somewhere must have seen something in him otherwise we wouldn't have signed him...we certainly didn't need to sign him...they wanted Davies...

I'm quite plainly not the one claiming he'll be our saviour...but i also don't see what good it does panning a player before we've seen what he's all about...some people will do this as they enjoy moaning (see new OS thread) and some will say good luck to the huy...let's see what he can do...i opt for the latter.

If he's sh:t, have no fear, i'll say as much...
