spyinthesky Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 Well done Brighton. Topped the home attendance list for last season with a home average of 26,373 However failed to beat ours of 26,419 from the previous season. Good effort nonetheless Meanwhile Saints have now finally overtaken Pompey in the all time (ie from League entry) in 1920/1 in the overall home average attendance over 86 seasons. Saints 17,557 Pompey 17,377 However over 86 seasons Saints have recorded a higher home attendance on 51 occasions which shows our dominance and loyalty especially as Pompey had a larger capacity ground for all bar 12 of the 86 seasons and, in fact, could only average 73% of capacity when they won their two League titles!! sussexsaint Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 I live near the amex and its building has revolutionised the club. Before it was built most kids around here would wear london or manchester shirts, now seeing a lot more Brighton shirts. Haven't been to see them yet but might pop along next season. dellboypete Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 Quite impressive crowds - especially when you take into account their years of ground sharing and the wonderful backdrop of the Withdean - enough to put any supporter off for life!. I'm yet to go to the Amex and it looks like I'll have to wait! Watched the Palace game on TV last week and the atmosphere sounded pretty good to be fair. We had a consultant from Brighton in the office last week and he confirmed what one of the above posters said about rejuvenating the club and also the whole area. However his biggest gripe was parking and access. He also thought that they were applying to expand even further. I didn't query this, but I thought I had read somewhere that it was now as big as it could be under the original public enquiry
Doctoroncall Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 I think both are true Pete, the club want to expand but the original terms will impact on the extent they can.
Clapham Saint Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 However his biggest gripe was parking and access. He also thought that they were applying to expand even further. I didn't query this, but I thought I had read somewhere that it was now as big as it could be under the original public enquiry As I understand it, they received permission for an [x] seater stadium and so designed one which had [x] seats but had empty paces at the corners and enough hight to add another tier above one of the existing single tier stands. Once that was buit they can now ask for permission to add more seats by filling in the corners etc without having any additional visial impact on the surrounding area. Sneaky... andysstuff Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 The corners were filled in this year. Still space to go up I guess. As far as parking was concerned, the stadium was built specifically for public transport rather than the car. There's a park and ride just off the a23 additionally the match day ticket provides free rail travel within a certain distance.
sussexsaint Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 The trains aren't frequent enough to deal with that many people leaving all at once , all the stations en route are packed out on matchday
Lets B Avenue Posted 20 May, 2013 Share Posted 20 May, 2013 They have a hygiene problem though. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/10065806/Brighton-and-Hove-Albion-investigate-Crystal-Palace-dressing-room-dirty-protest-after-Gus-Poyet-email.html

Didn't think the atmosphere was very good for that Palace game, didn't they hand out those plastic clapper things? Can you imagine them being given out if we played the Skates in such a game. Reference to the clapper distribution was one of the things in Poyets email rant that got him suspended!!
Golden Balls Posted 21 May, 2013 Share Posted 21 May, 2013 Wasn't impressed with it at all when we went there last year. The worst part is its location. Fair play to their fans though, turning out in numbers. If they manage promotion soon and expand that stadium, I could see them filling it often. Which is quite an achievement when you look where they've been for a generation.
