Football reporting/coverage in papers

Mrs ecuk268 bought me a year's subscription to The i. Don't normally have time to read a decent paper every day so The i is a good compromise between quality and brevity.

Reasonable coverage of cricket and Premiership footy and some good articles on sport in general. If I want more depth, I go online.

Was a huge culture shock moving here and suddenly NOT reading a newspaper every day.

Now we can get the Mail & The Times in the shop printed locally but haven't bought one for 15 years.

On-line I liked the Telegraph, they reported most of the News pretty evenly (you guys have to remember that for us Politics is just a distant memory - like rolling green hills or watching Trees come into bud in Spring)

Their Sport was balanced and didn't have too much celeb style stories. But then you had to start paying for it dso I now look there less than 10 times a month.

Now it's the Mail.Coverage is good range is OK (golf is a bit slack) but there is always that "almost sensationalist" edge to it

Locally the lads down the road put together a good daily freebie paper with a good (non political/sensationalist) slant. They report Sports News

Liking their FB page means I get their top stories fed to me rather than having to search everyday

Obviously they don't have the range of features by "Editors" that you get in Brit Rags but tells you what's going on

Haven't regularly read a national for twenty years or more - mostly political dross, ill-informed comment and sensationalism. Will occasionally buy one if I'm out and about and will buy anything from Times to the Sun (except the Mail), dependent on my mood and need for information or entertainment.

Have recently been buying more I's though and quite like it. It's brevity means that they stick to the facts without embellishment and this is very apparent in their football reporting. So often you read a 'match report' in one of the nationals that is a full-page article speculating about Wenger's future or Bale's on-off transfer, with three lines at the bottom to tell you who won the match. I doubt if their reporters even attend the games sometimes.
