Legod Third Coming Posted 21 December, 2008 Share Posted 21 December, 2008 SCW claimed that a few small things can make a big difference. Well, here are some ideas: 1) tell the stewards to ignore standing in the Northam. Whatever you think about them this is the engine room of the support and allowing the opposing fans to stand while making our own sit is not conducive to vocal domination. For long periods yesterday Forest outsung us - poor, really poor. 2) when thinking about opening corners, open the Itchen/Northam first as this creates banter between opposing and home fans which is an essential element of atmosphere. Yesterday's atmosphere was like that on Jupiter... 3) give every fan a free drink every once in a while. Amazing what a bit of goodwill can do for crowd morale. 4) attack the home end in the second half. 5) have some cheer/chant-starters in every stand, paid by the club on the qt to get the crowd going. Now, I ain't saying that these things compensate for leadership and spine, but by God we have made our ground a sanitised place. Seriously, I have been to louder monasteries than the game yesterday. Yes, the players owe us. But however they're playing I don't mind a bit of a sing-song and maybe being the 12th man once in a while. Yesterday was pants as football goes for the atmosphere. No tension, no agression, no frivolity, no jolity... PS: Don't turn this into another thread slagging off the team. Just agree or not that there are some simple things we could do that couldn't hurt. How about getting the team to put in performances that actually inspire the fans to be noisy ? I dont even go that often, and I am fed up of the fans being blamed for our plight. Irrespective, Forest fans will have gone home talking about how crap our support is and I would rather they went home talking about how our crap team are a disgrace to our brilliant support. I do not BLAME fans, I am merely saying we could reward supporters by giving them the things they want - to turn a blind eye to standing, to open the right corner first (not leave it closed) and to give us a free beer once in a while. What exactly is wrong with any of those things?

Excellent points LTC and i agree with everyone of them. Also can the club tell the old bill to stop picking on fans who swear in the Northam. Yesterday my son(who is 17) was yanked out of his seat and told in no uncertain terms, that if he carried on swearing,he would be arrested. Totally over the top.The copper soon decided he had had enough and went away, once the whole Northam end started calling for Lowe to f--k off. rocknrollman no2 Posted 21 December, 2008 Share Posted 21 December, 2008 Sorry,i went a bit off subject with my last post. 70s Mike has just posted what i was going to say. Actually why not give all STHs the first cup game free if its drawn that we play at home. If its away, then it wont have cost the club a penny. Because of the utter Crap served up yesterday and on many previous occasions, it`s just right now lots of us have had a gut full of the ****e being offered week in week out. Because of the utter Crap served up yesterday and on many previous occasions, it`s just right now lots of us have had a gut full of the ****e being offered week in week out. It was crap from the off though wasn't it? And if we'd all had a free pint, say, and people were standing and engaging in a bit of banter with the oppo - we would at least have started in the right frame of mind, even when the team inevitably let us down! benjii Posted 21 December, 2008 Share Posted 21 December, 2008 Support was terrible. Presumably because most people there are disillusioned and are looking for something to reignite their passon for an entity which is not the one they used to love anymore. I decided not to bother going to Reading or Man U after witnessing that unless there is some top-down change before then.
Big Ron fan Posted 21 December, 2008 Share Posted 21 December, 2008 Much more important things than these, which would improve things rapidly, would be to play people in their best positions and adopt sensible tactics. This is what is taking us down, not the finances or the fans!
Thedelldays Posted 21 December, 2008 Share Posted 21 December, 2008 all well and good.. but it is illegal to stand like you are implying...
Legod Third Coming Posted 21 December, 2008 Author Share Posted 21 December, 2008 all well and good.. but it is illegal to stand like you are implying... I know, but the away fans are allowed to and all we need is a few blind eyes while we are in the sh!te!!
Saint In Exile Posted 21 December, 2008 Share Posted 21 December, 2008 I know, but the away fans are allowed to and all we need is a few blind eyes while we are in the sh!te!! The away fans aren't "allowed" to either... The stewards tell them to sit as well and they choose to ignore it as do most in the Northam.
aintforever Posted 21 December, 2008 Share Posted 21 December, 2008 Agree about the standing thing, the jobsworths in the Northam do kill the atmosphere.
