Marsdinho Posted 21 January, 2015 Share Posted 21 January, 2015 I've always like the Volvo 480 (beauty in the eye of the beholder and all that!) and was thinking about getting one now that I've changed jobs and don't have a company car. Been looking at the two that are on Autotrader http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201412249815184/usedcars http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201410218391417/usedcars Both have issues, which the dealer (obviously) says are easy / cheap fixes, has anyone got any experience with 480's, do they look like they could be sorted out relatively cheaply? Also, any advice / tips / things to look out for would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

david in sweden Posted 21 January, 2015 Share Posted 21 January, 2015 can't say I've ever owned one, but plenty of people in Sweden have, it was a popular car. My neighbour still drives a model of that era. Volvo have always been a reliable carmaker in Sweden, and now is the only one (of any consequence). They are pretty sound on the road and were very progressive with safety factors - even 20 years ago. A bit of rust comes with a car of that age, but as long as it's not in vital parts of the chassis - maybe OK. If I were buying any car, I'd try and look at the history, past owners etc , and any major jobs that had been carried out /or not. (No repair seems to be cheap these days). can't say more - but good luck - whatever you decide.
buctootim Posted 21 January, 2015 Share Posted 21 January, 2015 (edited) Never owned one or been in one. My only contribution is I remember my partners mate's boyfriend having one and he loved it! I wouldnt buy a 165,000 mile car though. Wait until a better kept one comes up. Plastic Posted 25 January, 2015 Share Posted 25 January, 2015 I always quite like the look of the 480, especially the seats, which were very smart. However it did have a range of issues. Honestjohn is always a great place to look for an unbiased assessment... http://classics.honestjohn.co.uk/reviews/volvo/480/
