miserableoldgit Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 I apologise if this clashes with any other threads but after a few glasses of wine and a couple of glasses of expensive port, (check punctuation! I am still copmis mentis!!) I really feel like I have to say exactly how I feel. I am nearly 60 (yes ****ing 60) years old. I am sat watching The Who at The Isle of Wight on Sky Arts. I am thinking about my years on this earth and the important part that Saints have played in them. Of all of the things that have been important to me in all of that time, The Saints are the thing that have been with me as long as I can remember. They have been important to my grandfather and to my father. Suddenly there are people in charge of "our" club that only have an interest in "their investment" and have no interest in the history or relevance of SFC to the wider community of our city. The "Spirit of Southampton" if you will. I feel at a complete loss as to what to do. Someone please help me!! I . I have lost the Speedway, I have lost the Ice Rink, I have lost the Lido. I have lost so much that is "Southampton" and I cannot face the loss of SFC. Please somebody, do something!!!

Just you remember what the Doctor said about your age, drinking Port and The good old Gout. I think we have lost SFC, already. Lowey came back out of spite and revenge and will take us right down the old swannee. Your a silly old sod like me 59 in Feb and crying in my beer over what Lowey ios doing ...The B.steward he is. Was Barry Briggs The Vikings star or the Dean of Southampton ice rink. Mind you some good old nights up The Top Rank. In the meantime I am going to take the shares away from Lowey as he got them on a false premise in my view.
miserableoldgit Posted 3 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 3 January, 2009 Your ****ed. Go to bed. Yes I am ****ed. But it does not mean that I am stupid or do not mean that I feel any the less sad about our current predicament. Please don`t think that I am simple minded. ottery st mary Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 Yes, I have a very limited tableau of advice for maudlling nearly sextogenarians. Oh! Yeah, but we are Saints through and through and not just here to sit at the top table and go hunting. I really do love old Rupes as much as you Faz. I mean I would love Rupes to Foxtrot Oscar. Please don`t think that I am simple minded. Didn't say you were stupid or simple minded. It's just that the combination of your chosen user name and alcohol are not likely to lead to a happy outcome. But hey, it's a free country. It was advice, not an order.
miserableoldgit Posted 3 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 3 January, 2009 Yes, I have a very limited tableau of advice for maudlling nearly sextogenarians. Yes I am currently very maudlin but I am a ST holder (since mid 70`s) and after many years of following Saints as a way of life have suddenly come to realise that there are ****s at the club who have no concept of what the club really means to the City and whats more don`t care!!! Seaford Saint Posted 3 January, 2009 Share Posted 3 January, 2009 I read your first message to my wife and she laughed. I know how you feel though (except I won't drink any alcohol till my birthday in 15 days time when I will be 53....).
miserableoldgit Posted 4 January, 2009 Author Share Posted 4 January, 2009 I read your first message to my wife and she laughed. I know how you feel though (except I won't drink any alcohol till my birthday in 15 days time when I will be 53....). I am sorry but I grew up in this city. Saints were always a vital part of Southampton. As you can see from my posts ( spelling/punctuation) although I have had my share of alcohol, I am not totally "car parked" (to quote Micheal McIntyre) and am saying what I really feel. I am sorry if this comes across as the rantings of a drunkard but it couldn`t be farther from the truth. Sometimes it takes the release of alcohol to say the things that you really feel. Saint Billy Posted 4 January, 2009 Share Posted 4 January, 2009 Yes I am currently very maudlin but I am a ST holder (since mid 70`s) and after many years of following Saints as a way of life have suddenly come to realise that there are ****s at the club who have no concept of what the club really means to the City and whats more don`t care!!! The same sort of sentiments Lawrie Mac expressed in a interview recently but totally lost by many on here and probably Lowe for that matter. I feel the same MOG along with feeling utterly helpless. I get angered by those who see it as over reacting, bed wetting, its only football, get a life, etc etc, they forget that for many of us it has been a big factor in our lives since when we could barely walk. I am nearly 52 and started watching and supporting saints at the age of 6 when I use to go to the choco box and stand on a beer crate to watch the games. I have seen it all at sfc, good and bad, but I cannot remember feeling as low as this as far as saints are concerned. Unfortunately that feeling of pure frustration and depression seems to cross over into other parts of your life as well. I firmly believe that a feel good factor is generated throughout a town or city if the local team is doing well as was proven by the 76 fa cup win. The only thing I can offer to cheer you up is, your not the only one. Btw, was it a good port as I too have a weakness for the stuff!

A combination of inept Southampton City Councils, Rupert Lowe, and bully-boy management at ABP have well-and-truly let down the people of this lovely city from which I set forth and which I love. I for one am glad I moved away; I couldnt bear to watch the decline any further..
