On the sporting director's side, our current head of scouts, Mathieu Frison, should be appointed sporting director, and on the coach's side, Stéphane Moulin will replace Vincent Hognon. Yes you're missing that we have a unified scouting network with Spors effectively at the top and the guy from Hoffenheim coming in. 1

Ben Chorley arrived at the same time as Sport Republic here at Valenciennes in July 2023, while Mathieu Frison was recruited in January 2024. The two people are totally different (one having never worked in France, the other having been at LOSC Lille and having already taken part in sporting missions). Mathieu's a good fit because he's familiar with the way the game works here in France and he's brought in some good players this winter, like Ousmane Touré and Axel Camblan, for example. I don't know if this will be a winning choice, but I hope it will work out in any case. 1

How many recruits was he involved in if not in that January window, then in the summer leading into this season? Good to hear that his winter window was better. Even better, that there's improved oversight across the group, as per Nolan's post. Of course, the SR wider recruitment strategy for VA has now resulted in "Frenchfying" it. So, a combination is probably best.

SR finally hiring a manager who has been at the levels they want o reach, has done good things with multiple clubs, and who hopefully challenges and drives those above him. Could be SR are learning. While not prolific, it looks like you're getting in some veteran experience in Courtet. Someone with a long career at the step above. Nothing fancy, but a foundation stone for the campaign. Hopefully setting an example. Hopefully with more impact than Lallana had for us. 1

A key player for last season's surprise team (6th in the National), this Marseillais first trained abroad before making a name for himself in France. A seasoned player in Ligue 2 and National, Alain Ipiélé has joined VAFC this Friday. At 27 years old, he decided to leave Martigues to sign a two-year contract (with an optional additional year) with the Red and Whites. This left winger played 32 Ligue 2 matches last season for the Provençal club (2 goals, 4 assists). Two promotions to Ligue 2 in two years Originally from Ivry, the Congolese international was trained in his hometown before joining Bobigny and then making a name for himself at Sainte-Geneviève in N2 during the 2021-2022 season, where he scored thirteen goals in 30 matches. This caught the eye of Dunkerque, who recruited him in National and had him sign his first professional contract in the summer of 2022. At Dunkerque, Ipiélé had a fantastic first season with 7 goals, the status of the best passer in National (10 assists), and most importantly, a promotion to Ligue 2. There has always been a pecking order in football and that will always be the case. Even liverpool get picked apart by Real Madrid etc. But I struggle to see a world in which the owners/board, backroom staff, and players of VAFC don't want it to do the best it can!! It helps VAFC, it helps the wider group, and if there is a situation where we have all 3 clubs in the top flight of their respective leagues it would mean a lot of quality things have happened. The two teams will meet on 18 July. Two years after VAFC was bought by Sport Republic, which also owns English club Sport Republic and Turkish club Goztepe, the connections with the owner's other clubs are growing. Daouda Traoré has already been loaned to Valenciennes by Southampton this season, and defender Joachim Kayi Sanda, who trained at VA, was transferred there in January and even played his first minutes in the Premier League at the end of the season, but Franco-English relations will reach a new level in July. VAFC will spend several days training at Southampton's facilities, and Stéphane Moulin's team will even face the English side, relegated to the Championship and now coached by former RC Lens coach Will Still, behind closed doors on 18 June. Before leaving for England, VA will face Quevilly-Rouen (N) on 12 July and then, on their return, Belgian sides Kortrijk and Francs-Borains on 26 July and 1 August in Belgium. Another preparatory match could be added to those already scheduled. The National league is due to resume on Friday 8 August. VAFC have asked to start away from home, and the fixture list will be unveiled in early July.
