1989 at the Dell, Saints beat Arsenal 1-0 with Rod Wallace scoring a late winner. Arsenal were champions and we'd already beaten Liverpool 4-1 at the Dell that season so to beat Arsenal as well really showed we were a team to be reckoned with that season.

Winning 2-1 at Nottarf Krap in 1975.

No bubble in those days, or segregation just pay on the day. Can’t imagine the Old Bill agreeing to the fixture on Boxing Day now.

Beating Cardiff 3-1 (?) in our promotion year in 1977 at The Dell stands out for personal reasons. I think Ted MacDougall scored in the first minute.

I remember that and other Boxing Day matches quite fondly from the early 70s. Anytime I smell the aroma of a cigar takes me straight back as so many had them stuck in their gobs at those games, along with a splash of Brut or Old Spice. Good times.

Arsenal away Boxing Day 1970. My first ever away game and we stood right at the front in the North Bank. It was played on a snow covered pitch (literally) with the snow scraped away from the lines and played using an orange ball. Would never have been allowed to be played nowadays. Ended 0-0 with Eric Martin outstanding. If I knew how to do it I would embed the highlights video!

I think that was widely regarded as his best game for us.

MLT special v Wimbledon Boxing Day 1994

Beating Chelsea 3-1 and Frankie Bennett’s only goal

Matt Oakley 30 yard rocket 1st or 2nd minute v Palace in a 2-0 win.

Didn’t we beat Spurs with Hoddle in charge 1-0 first season at SMS, very low and strong sun all game?

Here you go.

Snow covered pitch, orange ball, take your word for it, as still in black and white for tv.  Possibly the only time Arsenal wore dark shorts (presumably red).

All good ones.

Yes beat Spurs but I think was New Years day then beat them again in fa cup few days later 2003?

Beating Arsenal 4-0 Cucu Martina was brilliant 2015.

Loved the Chelsea 3-1 Frankie Bennett, I need to check this but think we then played Man City away THE NEXT DAY and the buzz of the 3-1 win inspired us to travel up to Manchester next day for a Northern away game, pay on the gate, those really were the days

I think we beat Spurs in 2001 on Boxing Day, 1-0 the return of Hoddle and Richards, then we beat them in 2002/03 season the next year at home (a similar time of year) in the league and then smashed them in the FA Cup - we were great that day.

A random memory, Fulham away on Boxing Day 2012/13, we drew 1-1, but there was a great rendition of OWTS, not the slow version - that sticks in my mind.

1980, Keegan’s first season, I think we played Spurs at White Hart Lane on Boxing Day, ended 4-4. Then Leicester at The Dell on 27th.

Gets on my tits when Wenger, Klopp or  Pep moan about fixture schedules.

That’s the one - thanks! I did wonder why Arsenal had dark shorts. Did they wear them just for that one game? And yes definitely an orange ball.

The biggest concern of global warming for me is the lack of orange ball action we get to see in the modern era , always felt special when that came out

Don’t really know about Arsenal’s kit, other than I can’t recall them turning out in that combination, especially at home.

On the topic of the kits worn that day, I’ve never seen colour footage of our away kit (amber and black). The best games recorded at Highbury and Old Trafford (the Ron Davies match) are both in black and white.

That was the era of the Wembley Trophy football. I think every kid had one at some stage. Realised years later the orange balls were seldom used. Bastards. I want my money back.

Seen a few of these, 4-4 away at Spurs would be my favourite. Frozen off at Charlton an hour before kick off would be my least favourite. Was that Fulham game the one at Loftus Road? Can't remember the OWTS but then again I can't seem to remember much nowadays.

Fulham game in 2012 was at Craven Cottage. Late Rickie Lambert penalty to equalise. I remember it as an enjoyable day out.

I remember being right down the front and it bloody pouring with rain , we always seem to take good support there

1977 we had successive 3-1 victories on the 26th and 27th over Cardiff and Charlton.

there was a good following at Charlton , but we still didn’t fill much of that huge terrace.I seem to remember there being police horses inside the stadium ?

Cardiff away in 2013. Made further memorable by driving there from my then-girlfriend's dad's house - inside Whipsnade Zoo.

A commanding 0-3 victory, whilst the Cardiff fans were protesting their ownership.

I remember it as being Gazzaniga's first clean sheet, though further research suggests he got one in 2012-13 - i.e. the season beforehand.

A Poch team, containing prime Schneiderlin, Lallana, Rodriguez and Lambert. Good times.

Yep, did that one as well.

The famous Craven Cottage 'neutral' blocks were right next to our away support, and were almost entirely Saints fans.

I'd not been quick off the mark with getting tickets so was in that neutral area - but only across a set of stairs from our lot.

It was indeed an excellent, sustained rendition of OWTS.

When we were losing, some old boy next to me was calling Adkins all sorts. I told him not to be so wet, and he grabbed me by the scruff of the neck, ha.

I enjoyed us beating Exeter City 3-1 in league 1 in front of a sold out St Mary’s.

This for me. I seem to remember it was bloody chilly but totally worth it. Just had a quick look at the starting line up. I'd forgotten Neil Trotman ever played for us, let alone that I'd seen him score.

Starting lineup:

GoalkeeperBart Białkowski
DefenderNeal Trotman
Defender/Centre backChris Perry
Defender/MidfielderDan Harding
Defender/MidfielderLloyd James
Defender/MidfielderMorgan Schneiderlin
MidfielderDean Hammond
Midfielder/ForwardMichail Antonio
Midfielder/ForwardAdam Lallana
Midfielder/ForwardRickie Lambert

Substitutions:

Joe Mills for Adam Lallana 61
Papa Waigo N'Diaye for David Connolly 75
Paul Wotton for Joe Mills 83
