I remember posing this very question on here a couple of years back, and I think the answer was 'Michael Poke' (who made the grand total of 4 first team appearances, all in the 2007/08 championship season).

As a club with a renowned academy (historically, at least) it's perhaps a tad baffling that we've practically never bred a keeper good enough for the first team. Wonder why?

The only other I can think of is Alan Blayney, who made a similar amount of appearances but did have that impressive game against Newcastle.

Those who have left, Cody Cropper had a reasonable career back in the US & James Shea is at Luton still. But other than that, nobody of note..

Darryl Flahavan came through Saints academy. Although he never played for us he made over 400 league apperances mainly at Southend. Cant think of anyone else.

Dont think Blayney was an academy product IIRC he came from an Irish team as a late teenager

It strange that we haven't managed to develop a keeper. Maybe we have just focused on producing top quality full backs?

It's not rocket science guys, you have three senior keepers for training drills etc. Doesn't make sense to bring someone out from the u21s/18s as not that helpful for development when we want them playing.

if we properly had an injury crisis we would then promote someone from the youth teams - Jones will never play for the first team.

I'm sticking my neck out a bit here, but I'm calling it right here, right now. This geezer's gonna step up at Wembley and score the winning penalty for us in the playoff final against Sheffield Wednesday.

You read it here first.

The issue isn't this guy per se. It's that Johannes 'squad planning is an art' Spors has managed to get us into a situation where we basically now have one first team goalkeeper and two third keepers. We don't have a reserve of a reasonable proven Championship standard who can step in if the first choice gets injured, and we don't have any realistic options to create competition for the no. 1 shirt or rotate if the first choice has a dramatic loss of form.

So it's now basically Peretz or one of two complete no-marks, and we are one injury away from having George Long, last seen as third choice at Norwich, in goal for the rest of the season, and potentially the play-offs with £140m and a Premier League place at stake. This at a level where an established international in Bazunu has repeatedly been found out as not being good enough.

You might think that's a reasonable gamble. I think it's fucking mental, personally.
