It’s not difficult to work out his tactics or this team.

- Wait for Saints to needlessly dominate in the opposition half and then counter quickly when there is only two defenders back.

- Show players out wide to stop the crosses and encourage backwards or sideways passes.

- Pump forward long balls that can’t be dealt with by our weak defenders.

- Await the continuous predictable subs on the hour.

I always imagine opposition defenders being like the Mr Bean meme waiting in the field for us to attack because of the controls sideways passing.
Millwall last weekend, weirdly, was the first time when I’d seen us turn and run at a team - look how effective it was.

One other thing worth mentioning, in all the times we have either played five at the back or reverted to a five at the back mid game, how often have we not conceded anymore? That would be an interesting stat, we concede more with five at the back than four.

Tonda has done a great job so far but his in game substitutions are ridiculous. He admitted that he changes players based on data telling him when they should come off to keep them as fresh as possible for the next game. 

How about doing it based on how the CURRENT match is going?

I don't think there's anything wrong with assessing the condition of the players when deciding if and when players need to be subbed, he does need to think about the bigger picture of the whole season rather than just 90 minutes. But agree it should certainly not be so rigid as to ignore what is happening in the match.

Today, I felt it was fair for Larin to come off early given he's started every league game and his form has dipped a bit in the last 2 (the merits of his replacement and how we are playing to him is another debate). But Scienza should have stayed on for longer as he was the danger man at the point he took him off and may well have scored or created the vital 2nd goal. Tonda was too rigid in sticking to his pre game plan with that one if that's what he was doing. 

We need to remember sometimes that Tonda is still a very young and inexperienced manager and still learning. If you go for such a young manager, you need to accept they won't get everything spot on, but of course they do need to be humble enough to learn their lessons.

I think we're seeing the squad is weaker this season. No decent striker to come on, or a battling midfielder to score a late goal. And no goals from THB to help.

However i look at it, we havent replaced quality with quality.

Tonda needs to adapt and find a way to make us look more dangerous.

On the other hand, I'd argue that his regular rotation of the players last season, was a key part of having a squad with match sharp depth that could keep us going. 

I take the point about managing the game in front of you. However, he's looking at a season and giving players opportunities that they will all be demanding to prove they are worth a place.

Scientific substitutions v old fashioned go by whats actually happening is unpredictable which is why sections of are play dont produce anything. Its highly risk and I think why we have drawn last to games as we invite opposition to attack and cant deal with it.

The data driven subs dont account for why Saints play so slowly or is that actually Tonda's game plan to crowd out out own half like a Tuchle V2 of Argentina v England 2nd half. Why doent the data or coaches own eyes pick up on Fellows running past 5 or 6 players then stop and lose ball as no other Saints player comes to recieve ball or the crosses he puts in dont have and Saints player at back post?
