saints_is_the_south Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 Excellent IMO. Best atmosphere in a while. 10/
Huffton Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 The Chapel also rocked today. We sang almost 3 songs in their entirety and clapped along to lots of others...
Bailey Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 The atmosphere around the whole ground was pretty good today in fairness. Might it have had something to do with Skacel getting the crowd going whenever possible?

View from the Northam, looked like the Chapel was much more lively than usual, good on ya. Thought the atmosphere all round the ground was superb today. BadgerBadger Posted 28 February, 2009 Share Posted 28 February, 2009 Atmosphere was top notch - the effect of a good team performance is not lost on the crowd and vice versa, they both reacted well to each other, a rather sore voice is testament to that
Kadeem Hardison Posted 1 March, 2009 Share Posted 1 March, 2009 The Family Centre was brilliant today. I had an ice lolly and sung a song about the Saints going marching in.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 1 March, 2009 Share Posted 1 March, 2009 I agree - the support today was really good. I think we needed jogging into voice a couple of times as I think we couldn't believe a 2nd good performance. When Cardiff looked like getting into the game and applying a lot of pressure, there was a concerted round of "red and white army" with clapping from most of the ground and I am positive that lifted the players as we then started to turn the tables again. The potential is always there. The team just needed to give te fans something, anything to hang onto and support. People were bashing the negative atmosphere from the fans but there have been some truly horrendous performances this year. It was nice to want to cheer the team for once rather than feeling like you were obligated to.

Even heard someone on radio talk about 'Fortress St. Mary's' - early days perhaps, but just maybe the corner has been turned at last and a bit of that lost spirit of Southampton is starting to return. Hopefully the protests have purged some of that negative feeling and we can all get behind the big push to safety - then concentrate on the deeper issues
hypochondriac Posted 1 March, 2009 Share Posted 1 March, 2009 It's the one thing that Wotte has done wrong. Instead of blaming the fans for protests and negativity, he should have realised that if the team started to perform like they cared then they would get full backing. SFKA South Woodford Posted 1 March, 2009 Share Posted 1 March, 2009 It was a great atmosphere, with everyone in the ground joining in with some of the chants today, it felt great. I think the fans were almost as important as the players in getting the result. As has previously been said on this thread the players seemed to really respond at certain times and upped the perfomance and got back on top of Cardiff. Well played the twelfth man. ladysaint Posted 1 March, 2009 Share Posted 1 March, 2009 Why were we allowed to stand all match today, one steward said it was because they couldnt make the Cardiff supporters sit down but that doesnt normally make any difference i.e. Man U etc.,
spyinthesky Posted 1 March, 2009 Share Posted 1 March, 2009 Apparently Cardiff will allow supporters to stand at one of their new ground according to the statement on their web site, relating to their new stadium. A sensible policy but surely will put them in conflict with the licensing authorities

The thing that got me was 'the buzz' around the stadium. There was a constant hum, a sound that we rarely hear at SMS. It was like being back at the Dell. There was constant noise around SMS. Pockets of Saints support, songs, chants coming from all around the stadium. Yes ALL sections of the stadium. The central Itchen were going for it too!!! I have just read the Cardiff message board and the comments something like.... "A large away support was outsung by a buoyant home crowd". "Southampton really got behind their team" It a really good feeling when you get that 'buzz' going around the stadium.

Instead of blaming the fans for protests and negativity, he should have realised that if the team started to perform like they cared then they would get full backing. Maybe he did realise this and was just trying to ease the pressure on the players. They certainly seem to have new found confidence. Hopefully this will quickly turn into a positive cycle of winning and increased support.

LGTL Posted 1 March, 2009 Share Posted 1 March, 2009 At one point when we were under the cosh 2nd half, the northam got singing and I looked around and the whole stadium was joining in, excellent to see and sounded awsome. Just goes to show that if the players perform the support will always be there, as DM proved when he got subbed. A nice appreciation because he worked hard yesterday.
