Give it to Ron Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 If you are reading this..you must of loved the 3rd goal last night! I think Matt will go on a be a big hit once he has a bit more time and patience from the manager and not thrown in too early. His confidence is key and nurtured along he will make it. But if they were 5 years older you wouldn't have minded? I cannot remember the players getting slagged off that much, if at all, this season. SoccerMom Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 But if they were 5 years older you wouldn't have minded? I cannot remember the players getting slagged off that much, if at all, this season. Hmm, well, Lloyd James and Ollie Lancashire have come in for lots of stick.
Papa Shango Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Navyred I hope will find it in him to return.he like myself was disgusted how the young lads took the brunt of a lot of unfair criticism. He needs to grow up. He threw he toys out the pram because someone dared to criticise his mate Paterson. Are people only allowed to criticise older players on here now then? Graffito Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Criticism's fair enough if it's constructive. I remember the criticism of Paterson and it was premature to say the least given he'd played just a handful of games. It's not necessarily to do with age either. Last season it was rare to hear anyone with a good word to say about Euell. OK, lately he's been playing forward rather than in midfield but all of this season people have been calling for him to be brought into the team. I'm pleased to see James proving some critics too quick to judge. I could go on to discuss McGoldrick.... but my point's been made.

I dont think it was down to that per say. I myself did not like the way fans were trashing the young players who had due to circumstances were put into the 1st team. They were IMO giving it all and due to lack of experience and some poor tactics not getting the results they deserved. When they needed support and understanding some on this forum only wanted to criticise them.
Saint_clark Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Hmm, well, Lloyd James and Ollie Lancashire have come in for lots of stick. Lancashire got a load of stick for getting sent off so often, which is fair enough. If an older player had got sent off in the same space of time they would have got the same amount of stick. James was awful at the start of the season, and most people simply said "he is far from ready and should be loaned out". Now he has a good amount of experience he is looking a lot better. trousers Posted 4 March, 2009 Share Posted 4 March, 2009 Some would say that criticism, constructive or otherwise, can be character building. Seems to have worked a treat in Paterson's case if last night's cameo is anything to go by....

A forum is a place to express all kinds of opinions.

And pretty needlessly offensive http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=6126 Thing is, if someone had said that about Skacel he wouldn't have had that reaction. It's just because it was his mate Paterson that he got all upset. I don't see why young players should be immune from criticism on here. (By the way I quite like Paterson, and don't really agree with Nexstar on that thread)

He says it has nothing to do with it being Paterson further down the thread, but there were plenty of players getting worse stick than that all last season and at the start of this season, and yet he didn't refuse to post then. I seem to remember that many people, including the telly commentators, thought that the red against QPR was extremely harsh. And the other one - can't remember the opposing team - he actually took one for the team as he was last man on a striker on a blinding run. Thought it was better to get the second yellow than leave KD exposed. maybe a good decision, maybe not, who knows? Clearly he was inexperienced, and absolutely not in a position to solve our extremely deep and chronic problem with centre-backs. Who was it who was saying the other night that the spine of the team is the most important?? Support in the stadium is one thing, support on here another, that's true. But we know that players and their mates look at the forum, and the kids surely knew they weren't playing at CCC best.

More to the point someone (Svennson?) appears to be working on the defensive side of his game. He was always good going forward. To be fair, Bridge did not stand out as that wonderful a full back when he started out as a youngster.
