Chez Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Over the last oh I don't know how many years there seems to have been very little planning done towards the end of the season for the following season. Being almost relegated, actually relegated, almost promoted and back to nearly relegated has put paid to that and this summer looks even worse with no idea if we will exist or what division we will be in, never mind what budget is available. Having said all that the show MUST go on and I wonder if our notoriously useless scouts (giv us a job) have unearthed some out of contract, to be released, available for nothing, free transfer, on the cheap, young or experienced prospects that we might lure with the prospect of a Leicester style turn around in fortune (assumng we are relegated) in front of large crowds? Relegation will no doubt see another cull of our own out of contract high earners (Davis, BWP, Saeijs, and Euell) so a few squad positions will come up. Now is the time to be thinking about this and start negotiating otherwise we are going to be left once again with the dregs like Wotton and Holmes. For instance has Dany N'Guessan's agent been spoken to? He is goal scoring 21 year old available on a free from Lincoln. I'm sure there are countless others that we should at least enquire about on the assumption that we will go forward. Even if a deal can not be concluded we can show our interest and that might help us down the line.
aintforever Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 I suppose it's impossible to do anything until we know wether we are going to be in business, and if we are wether we are owned by a consortium of Arab billionaires or by a bunch of fans with buckets. CB Fry Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Who is the person that is going to show the interest? We don't have anyone around in management (coaching or admin/chief exec) that is likely to be anywhere near the club come August. We barely have anyone in place for the job in hand now. Wotte can't be seen to be preparing for next season, not least whatever he does will look wrong - either presuming success or failure and presuming he'll have a job either way. And he'd get slated for "not concentrating on the current situation". Brace yourself for a scramble around just like the last five seasons. Sorry. Give it to Ron Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 I would just love it...if for once we had a manager and board that sanctioned moves for players that suit the division we play in. No Gasmi, Schneiderling, Smith namby pamby style we need good solid honest giant centre halves, a mobile kicker in midfield, pacey wingers and a lump up front for Paterson and McGoldrick to feed off. We have no pace or aggression in our first or reserve teams that will get us up. I have wanted us to buy someone like Andy Bishop from Bury for a couple of years instead of the likes of the above mentioned players. He cannot be on big wages or cost a lot and run us ragged the other year at SMS.
.comsaint Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Trouble is Chez we don't know what division we'll be playing in next season yet (as you rightfully point out) - and just as importantly - we don't know who the gaffer will be. I don't think Wotte will either want the job or be asked to stay if we go down. If a new boss comes in he'll want his own players, right-hand man, etc. 3 more short weeks & we'll know the answer to many questions!

wightman35 Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 If we have a club after the end of the month (and that is still a BIG if in my opinion) I hope the new incumbents will have read some of the sensible posts above. We certainly need a change from the "methods" used since Strachan left.
egreog Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Frankly I would clear the decks.....try to keep KD which probably won't happen, but the rest can go and ply their inadequacies for some other poor mug!
s0108787 Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 If we get relegated i think our team will consist of: Forecast James Saejs Perry Mills Thomson Gillet White Holmes Paterson McLaggon Subs Bialkowski Lancashire Racine Hatch Gobern Molyneux Davies Pernecky I can't see players like; Skacel, Davis, Lallana, McGoldrick, Saganowski, Euell, Dyer, Surman, Wright-Phillips staying around if we're in league one. Obviously Rasiak and John are off too. If we stay up and are taken over by someone with some cash, frankly it is anyone's guess what our squad will be... CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Assuming the club survives to see next season it's imperative we avoid the worst mistakes of this season - be it CCC or L1 we'll need to find experienced (but affordable) players to replace the senior players who will leave this summer . This is of course much easier said than done but finding a manager able to sort the wheat from the lower league chaff will be the first item in the 'In-Tray' for any new owners . I'm a firm believer in building from the back so establishing a strong back 4 and goalkeeper with their stand-ins should be top priority . Recent Saints history shows us starting the season with our defensive arrangements in disarray on more than one occasion - lets not go there again . simonsaints1 Posted 15 April, 2009 Share Posted 15 April, 2009 I don't know if this helps but on Football Manager 2009 all my strikers were injured or suspended, so I tried playing Paterson and Mclaggon. To my delight it worked a treat Paterson got a hat-trick and Mclaggon got 2 asists. Saints 4 Derby 0. If only it was real!

I think Patterson is going to be great player. I don't agree that we need to buy big lumps in order to win as testified by MK Dons and Peterborough this year and Swansea last.
