Bailey Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Anyone know how he's getting on with his recovery? I know he was substituted during the latest reserve outing as a precaution, but haven't heard anything since. I can't see him making a return to the first-team this season to be honest. SoccerMom Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Said in the programme yesterday that he had gone the full 90 mins against Gillingham reserves (so the nipper pointed out to me...)
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Spoke with him after game yesterday. He said he is fully fit and does not know why he is not included in squad, but i suppose it`s because we have the guy with the "world class skills" instead:rolleyes: He won`t be match fit but a useful sub and at least he occasionally gets to the by line before crossing the ball. He was the player wheeled out in front of the corporates yesterday. Said he was disappointed not to be in the squadbut it was "the gaffer's decision". He reckoned that with all the recovery work he was the fittest now of all the time he had been at the Saints. I'd like to see him back on that left wing - especially with Surman off the boil in recent games.

Saw him after the charlton game and he said exactly the same thing. Said they pushed him to get fit and then left him out, seemed a bit ****ed off. Can't really blame him. Nice misses though! Funny that we won with that world class skilled player on the bench yesterday?
chocco boxo Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Holmes is a waste space like so many of our average signings.
these things take time Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Holmes is a waste space like so many of our average signings. No he isn't. He was our best player until he got injured. Not afraid to take on and beat his man, offers genuine width, and offers an outlet to immediately turn defence into attack.

Gemmel Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Top bloke. He turned up tonight for my sons fundraising event and seems very passionate about the club and our plight.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 14 April, 2009 Share Posted 14 April, 2009 Holmes is one of the few players prepared to put his foot in where it hurts. That's why he's been out injured all this time. The trouble is in the present set-up with a settled diamond midfield where would he play? I actually think he could do a much better job in front of defence than Wotton or even possibly Gillet. Certainly a better bet than the £1m Spiderman IMO.
teamsaint Posted 15 April, 2009 Share Posted 15 April, 2009 will turn out to be a great signing for us.
SuperMikey Posted 15 April, 2009 Share Posted 15 April, 2009 I do hope he plays for the next few games, because he is one of the players in the team who can put in a quality cross. His delivery is brilliant, and while he may not be Nathan Dyer when it comes to pace, he can also outrun defenders. This is what we're lacking, some decent service (no offence Lloyd James) and a winger who runs at his markers (unlike Ryan "World Class" Smith and whichever person Wotte picks to play out of position on the other wing (Surman, BWP, Lallana...). No pace, no trick, doesn't tackle, win headers, score goals...I think you might have been blinded by his white boots/socks cos he never gets them bloody dirty. For me he just about justifys his transfer fee.
Yate Saint Posted 15 April, 2009 Share Posted 15 April, 2009 I think Holmes is a very good player for us. After getting injured at QPR early in the season we really did miss him. He hasnt got bags of pace but seems to put a lot of effort in and works hard down the wing. Shame we didn't sign more players like him instead of getting players in which were not good enough to get in the side. A side that is in the relegation zone, needing signings to get us out of it and not keeping us in it!!

Seemed disappointed not to be in the first team, didn't seem to know why he was left out of the team. He is IMO the best left midfielder at the club, the only player that really gives width to the team.
