Not a lot of that first paragraph is true? We are quite obviously suited to the style because we’ve been doing it for a year with success. What he means is ‘at this level’ which is still up for debate obviously. Also no attacking threat whatsoever/why they have only scored one goal is funny for a team who has had more shots than United and has missed 3? chances from 6 yards out. Reckon that’s a bigger reason for only scoring 1 goal than nothing passes at the back.

Do people just not check things anymore before they post?

That can’t be as fun though. Anyway Lucy Pinder is calling and I’ve got to get to training. Sorry, I mean work. 👋

This second post is great and plays to the crowd wonderfully. Like for example the wild conclusion there’s ’no hint of reward’ and the listing of goals conceded are all brilliant things. Of course, it doesn’t take into consideration the literal reward of promotion that it’s delivered or the reward of the goals we’ve scored but those are minor details aren’t they.
-
I’m well aware we’re playing in a different environment but I don’t think 3 games in said environment is reasonable amount to make wild conclusions on. Just like I didn’t think a small amount of games last season was a reasonable amount of games to judge the same person on.

I’m so sorry I baffle some of you. If the simple concept of not wetting the bed after 3 games of a season baffles you then may I suggest you think back to this time last year where I also did not wet the bed after 3 games of the season. Maybe you would also like to think back through history, for example the 5 PL seasons Saints have lost their first 3 games of the season and not been relegated. How about the last time we were promoted when we lost our first 4. Or if you want to move away from Saints, Bournemouth last year took 10 games to win a game with their manager who is doing fine. It’s not the most difficult concept to understand. It’s not part of some club plant to put anyone right. It’s also not part of an unwavering support or desire to swim against the tide (I hate to break it to you all but some people on a message board are hardly representative of the reality). It’s just quite simply looking at the manager and team who have done quite a good job over the last 12 months and thinking 3 bad results in the premier league isn’t the worst thing in the world and probably isn’t enough to judge someone on. We’re going to get beat in this league and beat quite a bit. There’s no magic system, manager or way of playing that stops that. We got beat 9-0 last time ffs 😂. Everyone calling for a change who thinks the above isn’t true really does need a dose of reality. We do however need to stop giving the ball away on the edge of the box and start taking some of our chances. Until we do that all the chat about systems and managers are pretty redundant tbh.

Yes, so GCA is referring to goal created actions so is directly affected by the goals we’ve scored. Shot creating actions is much higher (in number obviously and in league position) which mainly shows we’ve not been very efficient in front of goal rather than struggling to create anything.
-
Yeah, cool. I’m just asking a question fella.
-
We had 3 managers the players supposedly disliked the last time we were in this league and got relegated.
-
What stat is this last one out of interest please? Stats I’ve seen have us down around mid table for shots, shots on target, XG, etc across the whole league. Are you just referring to goals scored?
-
If we keep giving the ball away on the edge of our box we will lose lots of games, yes. That isn't "his way though" and there is no "way" that guarantees we don't lose lots of games at this level in our first season back.
-
hahahahahahaha

Looking at the results under Adkins you can see us shipping goals for fun right from the start and it wasn't until November that we started to get a grip of things and get consistent results. Didn't really have an issue scoring goals which might be a difference but I suspect having some players who went on to represent England in our attack helped with that. Almost as if a bit of patience is required.
-
Hate to go all Twitter community notes on you but for full clarity…the brand of football does work at this level for others and it absolutely did work at another level for us last year.
-
I think we’ve got a better chance of beating Ipswich this year than we did Wolves and Forest last time. But I don’t know if we will or not, obviously. And if we don’t, I don’t think we should panic and through everything out the window like we did last time, because that caused more damage than good.
-
I don’t need reminding, I’m just thinking maybe 3 out of 38 games isn’t enough to judge someone on? As I’ve stated on another thread Bournemouth went 10 games last year without winning and were fine. This idea that 3 games and you can make such wild conclusions is nuts. Maybe..just like last season…the start of the season is…just the start? and maybe…just like last season…we’ll get better and might stop giving the ball away outside our box… Or maybe not of course. Or maybe we do and we still go down. I’m not sure I know, obviously you do so you’re much better at this stuff than me, but then again…I’ve no doubt you said the same this time last season and my point is you were wrong then too.
-
Agreed. That was my point. ‘ I really hate the way they ask me to play and they have told me it will be the same way again this year…anyway…where do I sign?’
-
We were piss poor. Disorganised, switching between 3 ways of playing because we had 3 different managers and spent the whole season off the field reacting to fan pressure and general narrative which led to being a mess, under coached and broken on the pitch. Our captain was actively talking about leaving whilst the season was still going on. We are much much better this time round than we were that season. We have confidence, a way of playing and a group that is quite clearly together off the field and quite clearly well coached on it. Might end up the same result, the PL is tough but we are much better placed this year to improve throughout the season than we were last time.
-
In which case..none of them will be frustrated as to why they are asked to play this way then? Yeah sorry I’m using the final result of the only season we have been managed by Martin to judge how well he’s done so far and not 3 games of this one. Silly me.
-
1 season, 1 promotion. Glasses are working, you should get some, it’s better.
-
Well on basis that a) they’ve been successful under this manager b) some have signed again to work for him after being here last year and c) ones who weren’t here last year clearly had other options but chose to come here (one specifically because of a review of someone here last year) I’m going to be slightly presumptuous and say they are feeling quite happy to be here and with the way they are asked to play.
-
‘I’ll be right one day, I promise! Believe me someone!’
-
Bournemouth took 10 games to win last year. You absolutely can experiment at this level.
-
Yes but guess what, none of them actually had to sign.
-
4 of these are new signings who name checked the manager and way we play as a reason for signing. 1 is an 18 year old who I assume is grateful for an opportunity he probably wouldn’t get in many other PL clubs and the other is so frustrated he’s barely made a squeak about wanting to leave despite being far too good for us.
