Contrary to popular belief we’ve had quite a lot of experienced players and managers under SR. Only Selles and Rusk actually are similar manager wise. Jones, Martin and Still all had ample managerial experience but were just younger so people didn’t trust it and Juric also had plenty of experience. Player wise also we’ve got plenty of experienced crap but again, because it’s crap it hasn’t worked out and again people much prefer to focus on the young/inexperienced signings instead.

I think I said recently I wouldn’t be choosing to keep him on necessarily. I’m not leaning that way. I’m just pointing out that’s it’s nice to have won a couple of games, the idea we’ve played two crap teams so it doesn’t count doesn’t really stack up either and maybe let the bed wetting wait until there’s something worth wetting the bed over. Not many inspiring names about though IMO and I’m always in favour of appointing someone promising and someone the players like over someone ‘experienced/proven themselves incapable of managing a club to any decent degree elsewhere’

If we had appointed an actual real life manager and failed the acid test would we have to sack them?

Yeah don’t really understand the fascination with beefing up the midfield when we have plenty of options in there. Fitness issues in there are an issue though. Plus it’s lovely PR play from the club with him and OR signing, so I suspect that’s behind any motivation to do it. Think it smacks of playing to the crowd which Solak especially is keen to do.

Rather than big long winded conspiracies analysing every action and non action of one man have we considered that our strikers weren’t very good for quite large chunks of the season, neither was our keeper or goalkeeper and suddenly against QPR and Sheff Wednesday we were a bit more efficient at both ends of the pitch and absolutely none of it is some finite confirmation that either Will Still or TE are brilliant or terrible?

How long does instant respect last? Can you lose it? Can it be earned?

We played terrible opposition before TE took over and didn’t win so maybe he’s the messiah.

I can’t honestly believe anyone over the age of 14 thinks we should appoint somebody because they are a recognised name.

It’s hard to argue with someone who is so clear about what is going to happen. Obviously this is all possible but you’re just getting worked up at a situation that is still only in your head right now 🤣 You definitely can’t go around giving predictions based on your last efforts in this league fella. Humble yourself and pipe down.

Maybe it’s the wait until it actually goes tits up before wetting the bed cohort. Maybe it’ll all be terrible. Maybe it’ll be the easy league to get promoted in for any half decent manager that everyone insisted it will be. Maybe it’s just a mindset choice be hopeful? Let’s find out first shall we?

Reminder that declaring suicide football about the only managers who seem to be delivering regular wins for us in this league does make you look pretty silly.

Most interesting thing about this and Sheffield United in general is they seem to be going all in on the experienced manager they've appointed and buying "proven" players. Everything a lot of people on here want for us. Fully expect them to be tearing up the league any day now.

In what way is the season written off? We're 7 points off the play offs and 3 games coming up against teams between us and the playoffs. Whatever manager gets to take charge, the pressure is on to deliver. I don't understand the meltdown though. At least let it go wrong before having a headloss. For the Eckert critics how many points in the next 3 for example would win you over?

There are plenty of examples either way, the trick is to get a manager capable of getting results out of your squad. Experience isn’t really relevant but it sure as hell makes people feel better about things in the short term.

I would but like you said we put forward that not long ago. The principles of the argument haven’t changed though. Experience doesn’t get you results. Otherwise Sheffield United would be out of the bottom 3 by now.

Maybe if Sheff Wednesday had a better manager they’d have beat us? Or maybe not because our manager is the best of all time just waiting to be given a chance?

Didn’t O’Neil and Solksjaer both start as caretakers? Both have been suggested as candidates for our job. Anyway, all I’m saying is the over reaction on here is silly. If we had a half decent striker ourselves we’d have won quite a few more games and Will Still would be leading a 3 at the back revolution here. We don’t, they didn’t. I’m happy to get into a debate about how relevant managers are and how underlying data should factor into decision making but given some on here refuse to understand XG I think we’re fighting a losing battle and my simple point was, winning felt good and dismissing that seems stupid.

There’s plenty of managers with experience, some in this league now or until the weekend, who would love a couple of wins like we’ve had this week and would lap it up as well. I agree that we’ve not been great, but given we’ve shown quite a lot in the last two games that we hadn’t shown this season already (willingness to defend our box properly and a ruthless streak at the other end) and we’ve played worse teams than QPR and not won this season and we never looked like losing on Saturday either, I think the idea that him carrying on is a ‘job for the boys’ or ‘brain dead’ is a bit of a over reaction. I’m sure we’ll get someone experienced, progress up the league with flowing football whilst playing 4 at the back and everyone will be satisfied though.
