He literally delivered the minimum objective he was asked to last season. So yeah, I call that a working managerial appointment. As for this season, the PL is the toughest league in the world and he's had 8 games as a manager in it. I don't think it's fair to judge him on that alone (just as I didn't for Jones btw so I'm not a RM fan boy). I don't mind the mistakes, I'd much rather our experienced PL players took some of the brunt rather than a manager who has earnt some credit in the bank and is finding his way under intense pressure, a squad that he has tried to improve but is new and at a club which has been poor in the PL for a long time before he came along. I said before this season, you 100% can start badly in this league and still stay up. We are 3 points off Ipswich who also haven't won a game and level with them if we had closed down a ball on the edge of the box properly, those are the fine margins. They also have a new manager finding their way but presumably doesn't have a weird online fan base after his head. Maybe they do, maybe they and you are right. Or maybe not everything you are feeling right now has to be so definitive and final.

Except for last season but yeah.
-
I think if the players want to stop looking bad they should probably stop throwing points away in the last minute of games first especially before blaming the guy that led them to the PL last season, which some of this squad completely ballsed up the year before that as well.

Ralph was sacked because he'd lost the dressing room completely and quite rightly so like you said. Jones had seemingly pissed almost everyone off in the ground and Selles was very much told he wasn't going to be our manager for any significant time after a short period. None of them worked. The one managerial appointment that has worked under SR has been Martin. Anyway, we have different approaches on how we would do things, which is fine. I'd much rather we tried to make this work than change in hope. The guy who delivered success with this club last year feels like a good option to me but then again maybe I'm wrong and there's someone who can deliver success out there and maybe we'll find them and maybe they'll turn our defence which includes players who have played under 4 different managers now but still barely keep clean sheets into quality players at this level. Who knows.

Himself? The vibe at the ground yesterday when he was clapped down the tunnel by the Itchen? The fact that he's clearly got the support of the players, especially important ones? The fact that nobody would want to take over before City anyway? The fact that every decision taken at the club right now seems to be a long term plan and doing something so rash at the very top of that would send a completely different message out across the club? Maybe I'm wrong though, maybe there is a magic man out there who can fit in nicely and deliver immediate results for on paper the worst team in the league last time we were in it and the worst team that got promoted last season too. Maybe we should ask BBC sport website, MOTD, the Saintsweb forum and the papers for their recommendations on who that is like someone else suggested earlier.
-
Always worth remembering that Ankerson and Sport Republic both would have signed off on the last managerial appointment which delivered the seasons minimum objective of promotion. I know it's unfashionable to point that out but it's true. Anyway, it's a pointless discussion because he's not getting sacked and as evidenced by the last time we were in this league, changing managers every time we don't win a few games is no guarantee of success and will only really attract people desperate for an opportunity. If you crave short term success, thats all you'll get at best but this odd little online world seems to thrive on that I suppose.

Which players has he thrown under the bus and which one are his favourites? Because all I see is a quote saying someone didn't do their job and no names mentioned and if I was a player I'd probably equally as annoyed by said player not doing their job. Also, he's changed the team every week and maybe only Downes and Bednarek have started every game this season? I'd argue he needs to get back to having some favourites and stop flapping around for a magic formula. Orrrr maybe they realise that the last time they sacked a manager after 8 games in the PL it didn't help.

What’s the papers, MOTD, the bbc sport website or Saintsweb record at this level like out of interest?
-
What people really mean when they say he should/did change is win. Sometimes that has/will coincide with slightly less possession which is a really easy go to statistic to point and say ‘look, he changed’. Sometimes it doesn’t coincide with that though.
-
No. He’s recognised that himself. I’m saying it’s an odd argument to make considering our results with the other approach were also good.
-
We got exactly the same outcomes against the same teams earlier in the season.

"You’re some people on an internet message board"
-
Hey fella, I thought it was a daft idea before yesterday, during yesterday and today. Don’t care if it’s you or Martin suggesting it. Sorry, what? Yes, that’s my point.
-
You aren’t the majority fella 😂 You’re some people on an internet message board who have whipped yourselves into a frenzy and convinced each other you’ve cracked football and the solution is so so simple. Like Dibling starting up front for example.
-
We agreed a fee for Delap and he turned us down. We’ve gone big for him for quite a few years now. Everytime we did this place had a meltdown over our attempts to go big for him. So don’t talk shite.

You lot are weird. Newly promoted team struggles, it’s hardly the most shocking thing is it. Not everything needs to be ripped up. Biggest issue is the constant team changing, that’s on the manager but having an huge squad doesn’t lend itself to clarity. I criticised the idea of playing a team of new players on here a while back and didn’t like it yesterday. Massively improved when Aribo was on who suits our game much better than LU right now. But either way, as I’ve said in here a while now, we are going to lose games, the first half yesterday was worse than that but if anyone thinks there’s a magic selection, formation, manager or whatever else that stops us losing regularly in this league they are deluded. You 100% can start badly in this league and survive, but our best way of doing that is by gradual improvements rather than ripping everything up. Also, anyone who thinks a new manager is taking over with our October is sorely mistaken.

As you all continue your melt down over Martin there’s 5 other managers without a win in the PL this season. All with various experiences, tactics, beards and reputations on here.
-
Brighton don’t need anyone to deliver them a promotion though do they. Anyway, I was being flippant because a lot of posts on here about Martin are obsessed with his CV being a mid table Championship manager and yet will happily call for Corberan or even Eustace in this instance.
-
Reckon the lad who got Southampton promoted last year is a better bet than two people who don’t have that on their CV imo.
-
Think this is a bit over the top (although I am one who believed he was over rated) but the biggest thing it sums up is the squad we had previously was really bad. At no point were we in any position to think about subbing him off and other clubs are happily shipping him off.
-
State of you Neither of those were massive calls ffs. One was obvious from about a week into LAST season and the other was a last minute deal after other deals on both sides didn't work out. Love your recent Dibling new contract post too. Really insightful stuff that. 18 year old kid who starts getting into the first team triggers a new contract shock. Look forward to you dining out on that one in the next week or two.
-
Yes, there are only two options. Either I've closely followed every B team match or I've just made it up. There is no other conceivable reason as to why I might think Tyler Dibling is a wide player or central midfielder. None at all. Oh by the way, you're entitled to be dissatisfied and nobody said anything about following stuff like a sycophant but if you continue to post stupid stuff people will probably call you out on it.
-
Stick an 18 year old in a position he's never played before in his first season as a first team player to keep a promoted side up. You keep spending your day telling the professional football manager with a promotion on his CV how he sets his team up all wrong pal whilst also pleaing that "all sides have their merit" at the very top of this page
