  1. All those who want Redmond dropped for this game are forgetting that Norwich is his old club and ex-players have a habit of scoring against their old clubs. If he is going to be dropped, this is not the time to do it.
  2. "36, Southampton will play 46, Portsmouth" Bring it on. We've got revenge for one of the 4-1 defeats but now let's avenge the other one. Another cup win v Pompey is something that will be remembered for a lifetime; a third round cup win v any other team will be played in a half-empty stadium and soon forgotten.
  3. They have 4 very good players, Pukki, Aarons, McLean & Hernández and some very poor ones, especially in defence. Pukki and Ings both to score in a 3-3 draw, with Redmond getting a last minute equalizer against his old club?
  4. Arsenal were very lucky to escape with a draw there. Norwich were far the better team. Only some great saves from Leno stopped them winning.
  5. Guess who do not want to be drawn against us? https://fansonline.net/portsmouth/mb/view.php?id=782928
  6. Pompey at home, of course. It would be great to thrash them twice in one season.
  7. Those are home ends and our most vociferous fans are 'special'; they don't want a whole home end: they prefer to hide in the corners of the away end. As someone who started watching Saints from behind the goal under the chocolate boxes at the Dell in the 60s, who always wished we'd have a big covered home end like most other clubs, it saddened the hell our of me that, when we finally got one at St Mary's, our fans shied away from it and instead chose to divide themselves into two small groups and hide in the corners, where the worst acoustics are. I know the history of our most vocal fans moving around at the Dell, as I was part of it. The first move from behind the goal to the side in the 70s was because there was no roof over the Milton so the acoustics were poor. It was thought that at the side, where there was a roof, we'd sound louder. Then there was the move of a group of fans to be next to the away fans in the days when there was 'aggro'. But, today, what would be best would be to have a whole proper home end. That's what the clubs you've mentioned, like Borussia Dortmund and Celtic, have, and that's what we should have if we want to improve our home support.
  8. Southampton FC reached its zenith in 1904 with the 6-1 victory over France and the first tour of South America by an English team, when we beat Argentina and Uruguay. Perhaps the long overseas tours were too much of a distraction as the club began to decline after that. If there had been a World Club Championship in those days, Saints would have been in it and probably would have won it.

  10. Back in the early twentieth century, when Saints were one of the best teams in the world, we thrashed national teams like France, Argentina and Uruguay away, usually running up double figure scorelines against them.

  12. They bought Tyrone Mings instead and he's the best central defender ever to come out of the Southampton Academy. The total fee will come to £25million so he was out of our price range.
  13. Along with Cedric, Bertrand is arguably the most saleable commodity our owners have left so they will probably try to sell them both in January. But, whether part of what they receive for them will be enough to buy upgrades is very doubtful. Our fans have consistently bought into the philosphy that new is better though.
  14. Yes. There is a reason why it's the most popular and most watched league in the world. It's not only highly competitive and exciting but every team in it gets an income of more than £100 million every year, which means they can buy many of the best players in the world. I don't remember many Saints fans whingeing about it when we finished 6th in 2016 and I don't think you'll find many Leicester, Sheffield United or Wolves fans whingeing about it now. The argument that a club like Saints can't hope to compete against the top six is just defeatism. We're having a bad season now but that can happen in the Championship too: ask Bolton and Sunderland fans. The game where Saints looked most evenly matched against an opponent this season was Liverpool, where we deserved at least a point.
  15. It may seem unlikely now but there probably will be future seasons when mid-table teams like Man United will be able to compete with top 4 clubs like Leicester. Positions in the Premier League are constantly changing.
  16. Why couldn't Djenepo kick the ball in the net twice, or even once? Isn't he supposed to be a professional footballer?
  17. Norwich could take out 2 managers in 2 games then because they should beat Arsenal.
  18. They were barely going through the motions. They have written off this season already. Their players and fans just want Emery gone. We were probably the only team in the league that wouldn't have beaten them today.
  19. Arsenal fans are gutted that we couldn't win today. They wanted Emery gone. I think every other team in the Premier League would have put Arsenal out of their misery and won there today. Norwich will do the job we couldn't in their next league game.
  20. People whinge when the top six is the same 2 years running and then they whinge when it isn't. The truth is the top six has constantly changed throughout the history of English football. there are 2 clubs that have dominated in recent decades: Man United and Liverpool. who are our equivalent of Spain's Real Madrid and Barcelona but, unlike their league, we have plenty of other champions, like Man City, Chelsea and Leicester. Get over it.
  21. That's actually not true. The Premier League is easily the best league in the world. Because of the success of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla in European competition, La Liga challenged its dominance for a while but a mid-table Premier League team would beat a mid-table team from any other league in the world most of the time. What there is, is strength in depth, which is why Leicester will qualify for the Champions League again and Wolves and Burnley are currently in the top 6, and why everyone around the world sees the Premier League as not only the best quality but also the most entertaining.
  22. Is that the weakest midfield Saints have fielded since our return to the Premier League? Meanwhile, it appears our best midfielders are on the bench. Hopefully, Ralph knows what he's doing.
  23. What Kat really meant was that she was taking her bank account to the next level.
  24. We probably need to be patient. Millions of people are still waiting for the replacement for Jesus.
  25. The problem is now that Kat has got the money Gao borrowed from another bank in her bank, he's screwed. He's not going to be able to sell his share for anything like what he paid Kat for it, so he's probably going to have to raid the club's funds if he can find a way to do that. And with Kat sitting on 20% of the club, which she's going to demand an excessive amount for, he's not going to be able to sell his share anyway. Buyers will want the whole club.
