  1. They bought Tyrone Mings instead and he's the best central defender ever to come out of the Southampton Academy. The total fee will come to £25million so he was out of our price range.
  2. Along with Cedric, Bertrand is arguably the most saleable commodity our owners have left so they will probably try to sell them both in January. But, whether part of what they receive for them will be enough to buy upgrades is very doubtful. Our fans have consistently bought into the philosphy that new is better though.
  3. Yes. There is a reason why it's the most popular and most watched league in the world. It's not only highly competitive and exciting but every team in it gets an income of more than £100 million every year, which means they can buy many of the best players in the world. I don't remember many Saints fans whingeing about it when we finished 6th in 2016 and I don't think you'll find many Leicester, Sheffield United or Wolves fans whingeing about it now. The argument that a club like Saints can't hope to compete against the top six is just defeatism. We're having a bad season now but that can happen in the Championship too: ask Bolton and Sunderland fans. The game where Saints looked most evenly matched against an opponent this season was Liverpool, where we deserved at least a point.
  4. It may seem unlikely now but there probably will be future seasons when mid-table teams like Man United will be able to compete with top 4 clubs like Leicester. Positions in the Premier League are constantly changing.
  5. Why couldn't Djenepo kick the ball in the net twice, or even once? Isn't he supposed to be a professional footballer?
  6. Norwich could take out 2 managers in 2 games then because they should beat Arsenal.
  7. They were barely going through the motions. They have written off this season already. Their players and fans just want Emery gone. We were probably the only team in the league that wouldn't have beaten them today.
  8. Arsenal fans are gutted that we couldn't win today. They wanted Emery gone. I think every other team in the Premier League would have put Arsenal out of their misery and won there today. Norwich will do the job we couldn't in their next league game.
  9. People whinge when the top six is the same 2 years running and then they whinge when it isn't. The truth is the top six has constantly changed throughout the history of English football. there are 2 clubs that have dominated in recent decades: Man United and Liverpool. who are our equivalent of Spain's Real Madrid and Barcelona but, unlike their league, we have plenty of other champions, like Man City, Chelsea and Leicester. Get over it.
  10. That's actually not true. The Premier League is easily the best league in the world. Because of the success of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Sevilla in European competition, La Liga challenged its dominance for a while but a mid-table Premier League team would beat a mid-table team from any other league in the world most of the time. What there is, is strength in depth, which is why Leicester will qualify for the Champions League again and Wolves and Burnley are currently in the top 6, and why everyone around the world sees the Premier League as not only the best quality but also the most entertaining.
  11. Is that the weakest midfield Saints have fielded since our return to the Premier League? Meanwhile, it appears our best midfielders are on the bench. Hopefully, Ralph knows what he's doing.
  12. What Kat really meant was that she was taking her bank account to the next level.
  13. We probably need to be patient. Millions of people are still waiting for the replacement for Jesus.
  14. The problem is now that Kat has got the money Gao borrowed from another bank in her bank, he's screwed. He's not going to be able to sell his share for anything like what he paid Kat for it, so he's probably going to have to raid the club's funds if he can find a way to do that. And with Kat sitting on 20% of the club, which she's going to demand an excessive amount for, he's not going to be able to sell his share anyway. Buyers will want the whole club.
  15. Top 3 Mitchells 1. The Mitchellin Man 2. Mitchell Ma Belle 3. Mitchells & Butlers (There's probably one of their pubs near you now, Turkish. You can't escape from them that easily)
  16. If our players lose their Premier League status next season, their transfer value is going to fall even more. Any good players we have left in the summer would then have to be sold off cheaply. Relegation would be devastating for a club like ours with owners who aren't prepared to invest and Gao would be looking even more desperately for a way to pay back the loan he took out to pay Kat.
  17. I think he's being ironic. They've taken Leipzig from the 5th tier of German football to the Champions League and their scouting and recruitment are the envy of the football world. Their average crowds have grown from 2,000 to 40,000 and they are now expanding their stadium capacity to 54,000. They are currently 2nd in the Bundesliga, ahead of Bayern Munich, who they aim to overtake as Germany's top club. Salzburg have won 10 Austrian Bundesliga titles since they took over and been regulars in the Champions League, whereas before Red Bull took over, the league had been dominated by the 2 big Vienna clubs: Rapid & Austria Vienna. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RB_Leipzig
  18. That's a fair summary although the owners will still be hoping to make a few bob from player sales.
  19. That really belongs in this thread: https://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?61468-New-Skates-Rivalry-Documentry-Coming-Out#.XdfwEa_grIU
  20. That would be great. They have been fantastic owners at both Leipzig and Salzburg but, apart from the Mitchell connection, I can't see why they would choose us and we don't know what terms Mitchell left the club on. He may be another one Les Reed has burnt our bridges with.
  21. If, as the Independent suggests, Gao has been open to offers for the club for the past 6 months, protests aren't going to help him sell it. Gao wants out but no new owner is going to want in at a relegation-threatened club in turmoil with the fans up in arms.
  22. He is the new Carlos Kaiser.
  23. The stats are on our side. We've never won a Premier League game at Arsenal. Surely, we are due a win now?
  24. As for the dock strike story, it's all here if you ever need to straighten out a Pompey fan about it: https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/watford/forum/165954/2223138/scummers/fb_pl.php
  25. After reading the glowing reviews on here, I decided to watch it to the end and we weren't. It was nearly all about how hard the film makers think Pompey fans. A Saints fan said, 'Pompey fans think they are hard' and the interviewer soon shut him up by replying, 'They are'. Quite frankly, apart from the fact we beat Pompey 4-0, which was almost edited completely out of the video, it was embarrassing. They condensed the match down to a few seconds because we won it, which didn't suit their agenda, and even then only focussed on women and old men amongst the Saints fans.
