I agree. He won't play 30 games for them and Wolves know it so they are basically wriggling out of any obligation to buy him.
-
The rumour is that it will be a youngster from abroad on loan. Personally, I'd have liked to see us buy Dael Fry from Middlesborough.
-
I've seen a rumour that we are almost certainly bringing one in on loan as we can't afford a transfer as well as the wages for a new cb until we have got more money from sales and reduced the current wage bill. To be honest, as long as we have a good CB this season, I don't really care how we do it.

I remember seeing him play against us for Vitesse Arnhem and he wasn't all that marvelous.

Jay Rodriguez scored both goals in Burnley's 2-0 win v Parma: https://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/burnley_fc/news/17814307.match-report-burnley-2---0-parma/

A word: I don't believe it's simple but, judging from your posts, you may be.

The problem seems to be that we need to field 3 of them to do the job that 2 competent central defenders would normally do, which leaves us short in midfield, so selling 2 of them and buying 1 competent central defender would make sense.

I remember when we had Clyne alternating with Chambers at right back and felt we had to let one of them go. Instead we let both of them go. Cedric has been OK but his lack of height has consistently been exploited by teams who play high crosses over his head. Chambers was Fulham's Player of the Season this year and won the vote by a country mile. I know they were relegated but he's still only young and I think he could do a job for us again. Clyne's 'lifestyle issues' as well as his injuries make his future prospects look less promising.

Absolutely. Not only will most our away allocations sell out but I predict this will be the 12th of our 12 top flight seasons at St Mary's when our home gates average over 30,000, which considering our capacity isn't much more than that is pretty good. For comparison, Pompey, who had a capacity in excess of 50,000 for much longer than that, only ever averaged home gates over 30,000 for 7 seasons, the last one being 66 years ago.

Vestergaard's lack of pace is the main reason we needed 3 central defenders rather than 2 last season. Yoshida, Bednarek and hopefully any new central defender should be capable of playing in a back 4.
-
I agree with you. Any new CB should be to replace Vestergaard rather than Yoshida or Bednarek.

From what I've read about Upemecano, he would be out of our price range but I would happily welcome him here. As for my opinion of Klarer, he looks like a really talented central defender to me. I may be wrong but I prefer to be optimistic.
-
No, I didn't. Didn't the wording of my original question suit your agenda of trying to sound superior? Give up. You just sound like a boring know-all, who doesn't really know much.
-
All this hoping that young Saints players will fail makes me laugh because our Academy has produced so many good young players over the years and Klarer looks like another one who is going to make the grade.
-
It must be a bloody big pub. They've got a 58,000 capacity stadium and according to Forbes, are the most valuable football team in China, with a team value of US$282 million and have got through to the final four of the FIFA Club World Cup as champions of Asia twice, before losing semi-finals to Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

I guess that like you I'm going to have to imagine it as I never said it. You might care to read what I actually wrote as opposed to what someone like you pretended I'd written.

This is our best pre-season since Koeman's team in 2015. when there was similar positivity and we also scored a lot of goals. PS, Who exactly stated he was better than Upemecano??? I simply asked the question Is Upemecano better than Klarer and got a lot of abuse but no sensible answers. To be honest, I have never seen Upemecano play a match live so I am not in a position to judge him. He has a very good reputation and sounds like a very good player. However, I have seen Klarer play and think he will be a good Premier League central defender for us in the near future.
-
Of course, if you watch him play, you can't help noticing the fact that he is a very good central defender.
-
Ssshh. Apparently it's not OK to praise him and anyone who does is an idiot as the perceived 'wisdom' on here is that he is rubbish and a million miles from ever being a Premier League player.
-
Chelsea have consistently sold some (but not all) of their best players, often when they are still very young, like Kevin de Bruyne, Mo Salah, Lukaku, Courtois and Eden Hazard. But, it has cost them top spot.
-
That is an excellent article. Your son is a very good writer.

Fair comment

PS As for your Jake Sinclair statement, that is just a very poor lie. What I said, many years ago, was that he was our Academy's top scorer at the time and would be worth giving a sub appearance. He then developed 'lifestyle problems', which sadly happens to many youngsters. Maybe your time in prison made you confrontational. Having never had that experience, I don't know what you are going through but hope you pull through.
-
And then there is reality, which is that he didn't. What I said was that Callum Camber's style of play reminded me of Bobby Moore (and still does). Having seen Bobby Moore play many times, including when we beat his West Ham Side 6-2 at the Dell, I can tell you that he was a Rolls Royce of a football player but not a very good defender, He was poor at tackling and heading, which is also true of Chambers, but he read the game very well and was a good passer, which is also true of both of them. Why is it so important for you to knock other people? We all have our different opinions, none of which are perfect. Accept the fact that you are not perfect either and you'll start to get on better with other people.
-
OK, I'm going to make it as simple as I can for you: Klarer is the most promising of our young central defenders and in my opinion, Dael Fry would be a good buy for us as he is right for our level and would stay with us. I'm certainly not criticising Upecamano, who is also a very good central defender, but I don't see his transfer fee, wages and long-term commitment to our club as being on a par with either Fry's or Klarer's. There is no need for personal insults. My opinion is just my opinion and may be right or wrong. Ultimately, all that matters is that the team we both support does as well as it possibly can. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to this season as there are a lot of positives to take from the pre-season so far.
