Played pretty well in that first half, especially in the first 20 minutes. I fear we'll be made to pay for not scoring when we were on top - we definitely faded as the half wore on. Targett going off has killed our width. Valery is the only outlet, and I've not seen him deliver a cross yet in his fledgling career that wasn't utterly useless. I'd probably take a point from here - there's no way we don't have a catastrophically sloppy defensive foul up in our near future. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Saints vs Derby - FA Cup 3rd Round Replay Thread

Well that was worth knackering the team out for and handing Everton the points on Saturday. Elyounoussi getting a fair bit of stick. I actually think that's the best he's played for us - and it was still garbage. Game changer Redmond won and lost us that, ultimately. Made an attacking difference, scored a good goal, but messed up an absolute sitter for an extra time winner - before missing his penalty. Ah well. If I never have to hear commentary from Danny Murphy again it'll be too soon. Not a shred of insight, wit or personality. Yuck. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk -

Lucky to be level. Completely overrun in midfield. Elyounoussi and Armstrong utter trash. I'm amazed at how many goals we've scored under Hasenhuttl - our attacking play is horrible. Don't think this will be our night. Wrap Romeu and Redmond in cotton wool and prepare for the weekend. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk -

Jesus Christ. Long misses a tap in from three yards. Not to be outdone, Armstrong follows up and misses a tap in from two yards. Professional footballers, folks. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk -
Saints vs Derby - FA Cup 3rd Round Replay Thread

Rest and rotate, I reckon. Similar line up to the first game. Romeu and Redmond given a breather. Gunn; Ramsey, Stephens, Vestergaard, Targett; Ward-Prowse, Slattery; Long, Armstrong, Elyounoussi; Gallagher. Johnson could come into contention. Sims and Jones are ineligible. Not sure whether Hesketh is (or is even fit). Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk -
Woohoo! Proper gutsy team performance. Hideous second half from a watching perspective, but we got it done. Somehow. 10 points for Hasenhuttl - he's had a better season than that useless crapbrick Hughes already. Romeu an absolute warrior. Where's that guy been for 18 months? All the defenders put themselves on the line - even Cedric was engaged today. Unrelated observation: how slow is Slattery? Is there some kind of club wide policy at the academy to only retain players who can't run? Anyway, congratulations to the boys - much needed points, against the odds. Sweet. Well that was a wild ride. Thought we were pretty decent in the main. The defence is still an accident waiting to happen, but it is what it is. Valery was actually having one of his best games - he really unsettled a damned good left back in Chilwell. But he seems to play in a daze, completely disconnected from the flow of the game, only ever reacting to what's going on when the ball comes near him and he remembers that he's actually playing. God knows how we're going to try and play this in the second half. Maybe thank Long for his freakishly rare contribution, replacing him with Cedric and try and break with Reds and Armstrong? Swap for Lookman? Works for me. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Maybe Elyounoussi will have to play. I've been watching his old youtube videos to try and figure out what we possibly saw in him, and he hasn't always been a total non-footballer. There might be a player in there. God knows where, though. He surely can't be as bad as he's appeared to be so far. Surely... Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Thanks, Charlie - fighting relegation, no fit strikers, and now even our pub-footballer-fit strikers are unavailable, for such petty-minded idiocy. What a pro. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

I think there's a rule for cup tie replays that you can't play anyone that wasn't registered for the original game. I might have just made that up, though. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

We're probably interested in lots of players that we've got no chance of signing. If Leipzig couldn't get Everton to budge on a £25m deal for a player who was desperate to join them, what are we going to do? Offer them a swap for Shane Long and a couple of tracksuits? Wages way above our budget. We're not spending £120k+ a week on a 33 year old any time soon. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

It is what it is. Would've been happy for us to have sacked off this match and focused solely on the next important league game, so a much changed XI struggling to a draw is no disaster. Chucking away a 2-0 lead is pretty galling, though - feeble defending once more our undoing. Long and Elyounoussi can't play for this club again, however. They don't make up one single footballer between them. Austin might poach a goal or two off the bench between now and the end of the season, but there'd be no tears shed if we could get shot of him too. He has no business starting any more games. Redmond looked full of beans - that's a good sign. And a couple of kids got a run out and a bit of experience (even if Barnes and Johnson barely touched the ball). Not sure what else to take from the match. Magic of the cup, etc. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Long would miss. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Alternatively, he could be playing through an injury - as the manager has stated - and is "mucking in" as best he can. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Is it time to give Angus Gunn a run in the PL
qwertyell replied to The Fat Controller's topic in The Saints
It's not that weird. He's been an important part of the England set up at every level - and I think called into the senior squad as cover while at Norwich due to a late injury pull out. He's very highly rated and probably would've gone to the world cup if he'd been playing in the Premier League and not the championship. It would've been weird for England to pick him ahead of McCarthy when he wasn't getting a game, but as and when he becomes our confirmed number one (quite possibly in the next few weeks), he'll be straight into the England squad, because A) he's got the potential to take the massively overrated Pickford's place, and B) Scotland want him, and it'd be a terrible waste for the FA to have invested in his development for all this time only to lose him because (for some reason) managerial fraud Aidy Boothroyd is seemingly freezing him out of the u21s. A bit of encouragement goes a long way. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk -
Bartolec - the right back we were supposedly lining up last summer if Cedric left - has got a Rory Delap long and flat throw on him. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Derby v Saints (FA Cup - 3rd Round) Build Up and match thread
qwertyell replied to SuperSAINT's topic in The Saints
The squad aren't fit enough to play all these games in a short space of time. We're over the worst of the schedule madness now, so it'd be a good time for the first stringers to get in some proper recuperation and training and prepare for our next important league game in ten days or so. We a absolutely can't afford another injury or suspension in midfield, so those boys need to be wrapped in cotton wool for a while. Give squad players, those returning to fitness and youngsters a game - see who steps up. Maybe no-one will, in which case, what have we really lost? The cup is of minor importance compared to our critical league situation. I suspect Derby will prioritise the league too. Gunn; Ramsey, Stephens, Klarer, Vokins; Slattery, Davis; Sims, Elyounoussi; Long, Austin. Assuming Davis is still here and Sims has been recalled from his loan. (We're a bit light on central midfielders at the moment. Who else could come in? Smallbone? Rowthorne?) Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk -
Gunn's played 4 for Saints, all away from home against PL opponents, and has 3 clean sheets. A late Theo Walcott break away goal is the only time he's been beaten. I think he's a really solid keeper in the making. Not spectacular, but does the basics calmly and with a touch of extra quality - a Van Der Saar type. Well played, chaps. Any chance of us going back in for Karlo Bartolec? He seems to think Saints had him lined up in the summer to replace Cedric if he left (which looks likely now). Recently capped by Croatia, 23, attack-minded full back, relatively cheap. The youtubes make him look half decent (as they tend to) but he's only playing in Denmark. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk

Three suspensions in half a season is Lee Cattermole levels of idiotic liability. But he does a good line in empty public apologies, so I guess that's all people seem to care about. He'll pick up another five yellows before the season is out - and that'll be at least eight games he'll have been unavailable, in a relegation battle, due to his own reckless indiscipline. Brilliant. Four match ban. Thanks skipper - great leadership when we're bang up against it. Moronic. Sent from my F3311 using Tapatalk
