  1. Having been to the US for the 94 World Cup I can confirm that had housewives been polled about the World Cup they'd have all said "the what?", and any with husbands going to bars to watch it would have found that not only was it not on in bars, but also that the wives actually hoped they were having an affair in preference to being a soccer hooligan.
  2. You're barking up the wrong tree with organize... It's an original English spelling from the 1500s and still preferred by various UK outlets... The OED for one recommends using '-ize' and lists that variant first, before '-ise'. Apparently the theory is that these suffixes are derived from Greek and in Greek it's spelt -ize. The -ise ending is a French invention.
  3. Far from the worst I've seen, but would make a terrible training top, never mind shirt. Glad Cortese didn't stick around if that was his plan...
  4. Well, when something else is unveiled tomorrow no-one will even notice this bit. But well done Robbie again on coming across like a neurotic eleven year old girl and spouting the wonder which is that line about kit affecting ability. Seeing as the widely admired Palace side of the second half of last season were wearing the same UNBRANDED kit as the crap team they had in the first few games of it.
  5. I am a tiny bit disappointed there's no S logo, but I suspect that'll be a minor issue.
  6. Well there are no red and white stripes on that shirt... Shadow ones don't count, just like they didn't in 1985.
  7. Alpine mentioned it 4 days ago, and Turkish mentioned him mentioning it the day after the season finished, so FFS to you all.
  8. Just for the record, as of yesterday we were shortest odds to come top not including last season's top 7, and about 10th favourite for relegation. So get your money on...
  9. Yeah, that away kit is a worse photoshop than it is design.
  10. I'd be surprised if they went with a striped logo for Heart and Home and gave out striped scarves in Swansea if it wasn't striped, and I mean red and white stripes... But they have clearly stated they didn't have enough time to get out of the "no brand" and re-use Adidas, so the timescales aren't that different. Also, whoever it was that said Adidas wouldn't put their logo on that red thing doesn't really understand how branding works.
  11. Makes no sense as the training kit is unbranded.
  12. Just thought of something else... How many times have we had a "worst case scenario" leak immediately before a "phew, it's not that bad" reveal. Managing expectations and all that...
  13. He worked his notice until January, definitely cancelled the Adidas contract, as noted from the time line on the OS, and if (as people have said) he also kicked off a new deal, we'd have had to extract ourselves from this AND get a new supplier in 6 months as well as going through the whole design/redesign, manufacturer and shipping process. Perfectly possible they were on very tight timelines.
  14. Oh, and having previously said only primadonnas care about the kit they're being paid to wear, I'd make an exception in that case. Hopefully Cortese going has saved us from a weird shift to red and yellow...
  15. Steve has notably NOT said it's the kit. Suspect it's an early prototype.
  16. Err, not really. No white at all.
  17. A few things here. 1) That kit is hideous 2) Steve didn't say it was the kit, so hardly WUMmery. 3) The badge is different on the red thing to the training kit (apart from anything the training kit badge is raised and both grey and white tops have the same badge on them, different from the red thing. 4) The trim on the red thing is similar to the training shirt patterns 5) Last season's "two training kits" thing is pretty much irrelevant, we've had just one training kit for numerous seasons of own-brand 6) The long socks with the training kit last year were full length white Adidas logo ones, also used for the alternate away socks at Old Trafford. 7) The current grey/yellow training socks match the training kit, not sure what other point there is from that 8 ) The yellow on the training kit is a different yellow from that on the red thing. 9) if that is the kit, it'll sell fewer than any shirt since the 1976 limited edition yellow away from 2006.
  18. I love a bit of MLG fact. I don't even mind when he has a point and just will not let it go. Sometimes it's quite entertaining just from knowing it's about to happen. However, I am not keen on boring, repetitive multi-thread starters or the same people hijacking everything else. It's not just about negativity though, the most negative poster at the moment is Saint Robbie, and his failure to see anything but the worst possible scenario in everything is actually quite amusing. I don't mind people being negative, I don't mind people being positive, but at least TRY and respond to the arguments created with something coherent, or funny, or SOMETHING. I have absolutely no idea why anyone bothers starting most of the threads though, they've already said the point they're making 10 times. Even in my most unLamberty moments I wasn't starting multiple threads about him, never mind 5 a day. Makes no sense.
  19. The truly amazing thing about this thread in the past 2 days is that not one single person has bothered to actually link a picture of the training kit from the OS/Facebook/Twitter or anywhere else.
  20. Barely! I tried it in the Dell Bar when it first came out, just after I'd had a pint of Worthington's. I think they came from the same pipe.
  21. The Saints Ale was Worthington's, was there a "Saints Beer"?
  22. Rooney £25.6m to Man U from Everton, reportedly. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/news-and-comment/the-ten-most-expensive-english-transfers-2056910.html?action=gallery&ino=2 It has no bearing on the original point MLG was making though.
  23. The point being that players deciding it couldn't be improved upon made it a self-fulfilling prophesy. HAD they all stayed and HAD we added some strength in depth to the already sound foundations so that we weren't left playing the likes of Hooiveld, Yoshida or becoming reliant on Gallagher by season's end, they'd be in a perfectly good position to improve on last season's excellent start and challenge the top sides. Most of the reason we didn't win more matches last season was because we had a weakened side in the matches we lost. With the best players being picked off, we now have to buy a load of players and integrate them in a short timeframe just to stand still. It all comes down to whether the players thought they could get CL football and CL players' wages at Saints or not, the answer seems to have been a resounding "no". Whether that's down to Cortese overpromising or Katharina deciding it wasn't a viable option or a combination of both doesn't really matter. The ironic thing is (and I'm not suggesting we will), if we actually go out and spend a shedload on 10 new superstar players, people will just wonder why we couldn't keep the ones we already had.
  24. A thread recap so far for people who want to see what's actually been said... FFS don't quote it!
