  1. Yeah, Ajax can, and obviously do vary things annually, but the fundamental basic design HAS to be white with a broad red stripe on the front. Not a narrow one, or one season in all red, or a couple of different types of stripe, etc. They have far less scope for change. Liverpool is similar, but they can at least add the odd bit of white somewhere to mix it up a bit - and of course based on last season's Saints kit, some people on here would have you believe they played in red and white stripes for the first half of the 80s.
  2. I would laugh a lot if either Bournemouth or Saints ended up thrashing the Skates - I can't imagine they'll get past Bournemouth's L1 promoted side with their bunch of rejects that near the start of the season though.
  3. I'm looking forward to Redknapp fielding a team of under 18s against Exeter to show the chairman he needs to spend more money on players because this lot "aren't good enough". Incidentally, how are : P Smith, M Cranie, D Kenton , M Mills, C Baird, N McCann, R Delap, Y Folly (T Walcott, 72), N Dyer, K Jones, D Blackstock (D McGoldrick, 81) doing nowadays ? I see nine players with at least a season of Prem experience, five of which have had at least 3 years at that level, plus all but Folly have been solid Championship players for at least a few years since as well... Contemplating a trip to Brighton to see Newport, but it's midweek, I've already been there, and I'm slightly worried their expanded ground will be less tinpot and mockable than it was when the Amex first opened, so I'd like to retain my prejudice on that one.
  4. If nothing else, that link also gives us a view of david in sweden's use of unnecessary bold and underlining at its absolute worst...
  5. Or, the club could indicate they're not just money-grabbing arses who don't give a sh11t about the fans by issuing car park validation for free whenever I pitch up as part of a group spending over four grand at their ticket office. Seems reasonable, stops the locals using the car park for free and doesn't p155 off their customers, which, you'd hope, would be one of the goals of an organisation wanting to encourage business.
  6. Pompey are surely going to get pummelled in that one. Bournemouth came second in the league that they just got relegated out of, and it's not like the players they've added are better - I was talking to a mate last night who mentioned the Charlton keeper they've signed, to a Charlton fan who by his own admission "follows them very closely", and he'd... I quote, "never heard of him". Way too early for them to have any kind of team spirit, and playing a side two leagues above them away from home. Pluckiness Oh, and can we make sure we leave a few 50 year old skinheads on Central Station this time to "deter" any flag-hangers... not that it's difficult or anything, but y'know...
  7. Yep... that Kitbag pic was a fake. As well as the badge everyone hates for no apparent reason, they've added a whole new white hoop and white collar. Though I have to say there it looks like there seems to have been some photoshopping around the badge on these as well... I wonder if they might be reworked old fakes (or maybe just samples that had the old badge on?).
  8. I have no idea what this is about.
  9. At least we can all go to bed now.
  10. The poll on here said around 2/3rds want red and white specifically in striped form.
  11. As it happens I'm in favour of Saints wearing stripes, and preferably the same home kit for 4 or 5 years at a time, whilst changing away kits annually. I was just pointing out that it's easier to shift kits if they change, not that it is what I want from a kit. As it happens, Liverpool have done quite well at selling "all red, season in season out". Except of course they've had pinstripes, and a big white V neck a couple of times, and massive big white adidas stripes all over their shirts, and ugly bird poo flecks, and the odd round neck, weird shaped stitching panels over the shoulder area, and changed manufacturers five times in the past 30 years which usually spikes sales anyway. Plus of course Liverpool had a global fanbase even 30 years ago and that's only grown, so it's difficult to know how many shirts they're actually shifting due to design changes, and how many are just from getting their stuff to new fans.
  12. I have this bookmarked from last year's thread, and it clearly says in various places that the "wearing red = success" thing is statistically unverifiable.
  13. Obviously I know what an Ajax shirt looks like generally, and funnily enough theirs is one they must have real problems marketing, because, really what can you do with it ? You can't vary the thickness of the stripes or even add a third colour... they just get the same thing every year with a different collar and occasional different shade of red print or jacquard weave. Luckily for Saints, it's only one of a few legitimate configurations for us... wish it was one we were using.
  14. Didn't seem to bother Man Utd for most of the 90s and 00s... and I'm not sure the effect is significant when 90% of the stadium is the same colour as the home team (except in Cardiff) either - plus anything gained could probably be offset by a study into the effect of teams both wearing different combinations of the same colour anyway (eg Everton in blue white blue against Leicester in white blue white, etc).
  15. And on Boxing Day 2003 we were utterly crap at Loftus Road against Fulham. I think that was when the players got wind that WGS was planning on leaving.
  16. Tony Hart won't be upset, he's dead. MLG mode off. (Yes I am aware that you said "late", that's still the kind of stuff you do though).
  17. Saved me posting it again.
  18. If adidas hadn't been using the "all in" thing for numerous other non-striped clubs it would be worth considering.
  19. And what about the other 90% of the image, the bit that's not the 3 stripes (which we know will be on the shirt) ? If we were having stripes, I'd have expected it to be striped, probably with some predictable guff about "Saints in (3) stripes". The fact they haven't even hinted at stripes is the killer for me.
  20. As far as I'm aware there hasn't even been a leak of the Ajax home yet - the Portland Timbers away is pretty nice though (see much earlier in the thread).
  21. No expectations for Davenport, who was already widely known as being crap. None for Nilsson either, though his wussiness was only evident after he joined, and as for Bernard - he was as bad as Davenport for us, but having watching The Premiership Years 2003/4 on Sky last week, we was superb for Newcastle that season, and it's astonishing to see how quickly he became terrible within a year - so he's definitely a contender.
  22. None of which defends the fact that he only played to get a permanent contract and just didn't try for getting on for 18 months after that. I saw his pre-season performance at Salisbury in 2008 and he may have wanted to stay but he was tangibly not putting in the effort needed to make him worth keeping.
  23. He scored 22 goals in 64 games for us and scored the only goal scored by a Saints player in Europe in about the last 25 years. He was "average" at absolute worst.
  24. Rebel said the shirt was "red with white ends to the sleeve" which just suggests white cuffs to me - though as none of the current templates seem to have a "cuff" on the short sleeve shirts, not sure which template we're talking about (again). As usual, when it comes out it will fit all of the various descriptions except those of the bullsh11tters and we'll all be "oh, riiiight, THAT, yeah everyone said that...".
  25. I'm already doing that. You get people on here smugly saying "you're only hurting yourself", for some reason.
