The Tipnor development has already started with trees removed on the east side of the M275 and some old buildings being demolished in preparation for the new exit. However, this development project, that includes houses and shops, certainly is not going to be economically viable if an unfunded football stadium is thrown into the mix. The council is having to find £10m just to supplement the cost of the junction so they aren't going to fund it (as we have seen with their recent loan offer). Planning and consultation does continue, so who knows, the club might be bought and the new owner could take advantage of this long term development, but the stadium will have to come out of the owners pocket not the developer.

SFC Youth Academy - currently active professional players
Chez replied to Lazlo78's topic in The Saints
actually Danny, Ray and Rod were all at Southampton a long time before being offered YTS apprentichip. Bob Higgins ran the the youth development and was responsible for unearthing and bringing through Shearer, Banger, Kenna, the Wallace brothers, KP and many others as associate schoolboys. He handed these players to Dave Merrington, who completed there footballing education. The youth development scheme at that time was second to none, but it fell apart when Higgins left under a cloud (taking Darren Eadie and Jamie Cureton with him I might add) only returning to former glories when Lowe invested heavily in it. -
Massive over exaggeration IMO.

Billy Sharp - Joins Notts Forest on Season Long Loan
Chez replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
I certainly am and I am not bothered at all about Sharp going out in loan. -
0-1 down at that point and the game was still lost as the attack had done **** all to draw level and could have played all night before scoring. Lambert much more to blame for that defeat. He was poor, but much easier to jump on the bandwagon and blame Fonte for everything. Thank god for Guly or he'd be the target for the boo boys.

I doubt he thought you were a knob. I bet he was chuffed that you took the trouble. I'd do the same I think.

are you lot active posters on POL?

Be honest, should the £12m paid for GR been spent elsewhere?
Chez replied to Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd's topic in The Saints

Chez replied to Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd's topic in The Saints
no. If the Wigan showed anything it showed that we lacked a cutting edge up front and needed more quality in the wide forward areas, so I for one are glad we spent big in that position. Our defence isn't nearly as bad as people are making out. United put 8 past Arsenal last season. They also almost won the title and spent £27m on a striker. -
We've got Brett.....oh hold on, it's James Ward-Prowse
Chez replied to Big_Bald_Si's topic in The Saints
totally. Said the same thing after the game. Exact same running style. -
Brum finished top 6 last season, relegated the season before

it was our attack that was the problem in that game, with Lambert and Sharp being **** poor (I for one am glad we spent a fortune on attacking players after that showing, without them we looked certain to go down) yet hardly a bad word and a few days later you lot are crying your eyes out at Sharps departure. Fonte is not nearly as bad as some you suggest. Give him a chance and he'll do fine.

spot on as well. Fox was far far too casual, on his heels. if he had been awake no one would have hardly noticed.
-
absolutely spot on and I back that philosophy personally. Keep the ball at all costs. Swansea did it and it worked well for them
-
he's just desperate to try and keep possession. he is trying to hard, but then again give the ball away at this level and you struggle to see it for 5 minutes, which was why we struggled so badly against Wigan. Difficult balance. After the first one you'd of thought he'd have been a little less risky though. The fact is Fox should have done a lot better with the poor pass to him. He just stood there on his heals, having a cup or tea. Far too casual. Swansea suffered in the same way at the start of last season getting caught in possession. Once we get with the speed of the league well get the balance right
-
I didn't think Fonte had that bad a game, but his reputation proceeds him now on here of course.

the (card) ticket would not have worked as it can be barred using a central database. I suspect Matt was given advance warning though, rather than have some friend of his struggling to get the turn style to work.

You are probably right, but don't underestimate what Le Tiss did for the club. Without LeTiss there would have been no prem, no prem no stadium, no stadium no Leibherr. Besides, knowledgeable football fans have soft spot for le Tiss and that reflects very well on us as a club. Can't believe I am defending him so much on here. I'm still unhappy about the betting stuff.

We got promotion and everyone expects every player in the side to be a top premiership player. Accept that some players have their limitations, will make mistakes and won't get in the team of the year and you'll enjoy the season a lot more. We won't win games right left and centre. Players will be outclassed. Accept it and enjoy the ride. The wins will taste that much sweeter and the season will feel epic. Getting fed up of I want, I want, cry baby fans getting on the backs of players that have taken this club from the depths to the pinnacle in just two years. Yes their is no room for sentiment in football, but there is certainly some room to cut them some slack for at least a season.

My backing of MLT on this matter has nothing to do with how I feel about him as a former ex player/hero. He admittance to betting fraud has lowered my opinion of him substantially. However, I just think its petty by Cortese and if true (I can't see MLT telling porkies) shows what sort of person he is. Put yourself in Matt's shoes and you had lent your ST to perhaps your Grandad and when he got to the ground he found that he was barred because you and the chairman had had words. How would you react? Shrug your shoulders, sigh and keep it to yourself, or feel annoyed and have a moan about it?
-
why didn't one of our three midfielders just step up and extra 10 yards so9 they were right on Schole's toes. We gave him far too much room as we did Carrick to begin with. Once we pushed up in the first half and out pressure on Carrick he cracked. Should have done the same with Scholes. Was the Northam singing Adam or Lambert for England?

or see him start against Wigan!
