  1. pace, great in the air, brilliant going forward, decent in defence. What a terrific loan signing that would be. No chance.
  2. he looks a very good player to me. Tall, pacey, strongm decent first touch and good work ethic. I'd start him every time.

I haven't read that we got an early settlement on the Jones deal (just that we had got £4.8m so far), just Bale and Walcott, not that it matters as any future payment would probably already have been factored into our current spending.

note I said `in terms effectiveness' For what its worth Sunderland hardly lay 100's of chances on a plate though do they? BTW he's got 7 already this season and he has been linked with several of the big boys including Chelsea, Spurs and Villa. Stern hardly set the world on fire at the top level. I recall both Brum and Sunderland getting rid as soon as they had goen up. I know we lost several players that summer but losing Jones hurt us massively in both attack and defence (both areas where we subsequently struggled showing what an important player he was for us). IMO he does so much more than just score goals, he leads the line, wins headers all over the park, he works hard across the line and he is also extremely good defensively at set peices. I'd take Jones back over Bale or Walcott (obviously only if he was committed to us - which sadly he wasn't). Stern...well, I thought he was lazy and an inadequate replacement for Jones. I'm not sure if it was just anger at the way Jones went on strike, but there were fans on here laughing at the fee and saying he was average. Average first touch perhaps but if you want a big number 9 then he's your man.
  5. can't recall any other player taking such a liberty against Stam. Qual-i-ty
  6. more of a cult hero than a legend in my eyes, although the goal against the Skates alone means he will always be a fans favourite.

the £6m fee was too low and I said so at the time. Even with that terrible side last season we would have done well with Jones leading the line. Losing him was a killer blow that we have never recovered from. John couldn;t lace the lads boots in terms of effectiveness. There is no mention of a sell on fee on the OS, but that doesn't mean there isn't one. Its a Lowe ploy to reveal such things to appease disgruntled fans, and I'm not sure the board at the time had the fans baying for blood.
  8. I think a fair few Saints fans are the same to be honest. Having said that all the great escapes are bound toi have rubbed off on even the most pessamistic fans.
  9. They didn't want him and we offer more money and a 3 year deal. I simply can not get my head round that at all. I know running a football club is not CM but this deal does not stack up.
  10. he came on on Saturday. I for one won't miss him if he goes. He is not good enough at this level. Plymouth fans respect what he did for them btu even they knew he was not up to CCC football.
  11. wasted so much time with Pekhard and Robertson. Patterson should have played in all the games those two appeared in. BWP should also have played up front offering genuine pace. As regards McGoldrick I am glad we have stuck by him, but he needs to get in the box far more IMO.
  12. let me add to the post win feel good factor. Jose Semedo - Charlton's best player when we played them at the Valley IMO - is out for two months. Won't make or break our surival but every little helps.
  13. pretty sure he signed for Barnsley in the summer (as apposed to a loan).

  15. even back then (perhaps especially back then) we were more likely to conceed 6 than score 6. I recall a 7 goal thumping at the Valley on the first day of the season, one in which we took about 8 games to get off the mark.

  17. beautiful work.
  18. beautiful work.
  19. decent in the air, isn't that what we'e hankered for all season? He looked a little shakey to me, but he won a fair amount in the air and hopefully will teach Lancashire a few things.

    We will stay up

I always felt that in the Premiership but I'm struggling to see enough quality in the squad.
  21. Davis 8 - had to make too many saves for my liking. Playing with great confidence -thankfully James 5 - as usual not bad on the ball (he looked very composed) but defensively he doesn't get tight enough or win enough in the air. He's improved in the last few weeks but this was the same old fare IMO. I think he saved a certain goal. Perry 6 last gasp (on his arse) stuff too often tells me he is well past his best. Gives his all mind. Kept a higher line than against Manure which helped. Still too many chances in the air from set peices shows up his lack of height. Seijs 7 A ball winner. Hallelujah. He improved as the game went on after a shakey start. His height is crucial with the lack of it around him. We could do with another like him especially for games against the likes of Watford. Molyneux 6 I thought their wide man caused him problems but for a debut he didn't do too bad. I don't think he has much to live up to in Skacel, but he's certainly no Bridge/Bale. I don't want to judge him until he's been here a couple of months though. Schneiderlin 6 he looks so good on the ball but he fails to control the game for long periods. Needs to do far more especially when it comes to competing for second balls. I can't recall a decent tackle in the game. Its essential he stays fit though as Gillett has not done enough. Surman 6 some decent runs off the ball that weren't found. Him and Schneiderlin are OK on the ball, but neither grab enough second ball. Our soft centre hurts us now we are not dominating posession. Lallana's return will help. McGoldrick 4 I personally think he works harder when he leads the line rather than plays in the hole. In that position he looks lost (not knowing when to get in the biox and when to drop off). Decent goal but has to byst a gut to be there more often. BWP 3 get to the byeline FFS. I'm a fan but he looks lost out wide. He needs to play upfront running the channels. Saga 3 never seemed to be where the ball was. For me he needs a big man t play off. Not someone that leads the line on his own. Holmes 5 Busy as always but compare the threat he offered to that of Cambell Ryce. His lack of pace means he never got past the full back.
  22. oh I forgot that your opinion is FACT on here.
  23. hardly noticed him at all. Overhyped.
  24. Certainly glad we have got shot of the laziest player in Saints' history. McGoldrick needs to do more, but at least he leaves the centre circle now and then. Stern was actually extremely pacey but no Saints fan would know it as he just could not be bothered. Most players that come through the ranks get much more support from their own fans.
