i too think that this has been simmering for sometime, and i also think it has something to do with the whole david beckham thing going on. imo he has spat the dummy cos he was told there is no money in the pot.

in 2003 we reached the fa cup final,we had a great manager who knew how to get the best out of the players available,we were in europe and things looked rosy in the garden. 2008 and pompey reached the final (admittedly they won it) ,they had a manager who knew how to polish a turd, they are in europe and things did look rosy for them. strachan left and the ship sunk, will redknapp be the cause of the same fate on pompey? will they be strong enough to ride out the storm? are they astute enough to learn from the mistakes made by a club like ours or are they so financially handcuffed that they will not be able to buy themselves out of trouble. im guessing that their troubles will start next season,a new manager rebuilding his team coupled with a possible change of ownership will cause problems for them.
-
probably because the championship is about their standard, prem clubs dont want them and the lower divs cant afford them so we have no choice if we want them off of the wage bill, unless of course we want to blow a shed load on paying them off.

aint you got any homework to mark steve lol? im not trying to lay the blame at the fans door but it is obvious that jan didnt have a say in the transfer.i dont know who makes the decisions anymore but i am pretty certain that it is a purely financial one, after all how many so called 'high earners' actually play in the team at the same time? possibly no more than 2 at any one time. all i am saying is now that stern has left skacel's oppurtunitys for a first team place(or any one of the other high earners chances) have now increased if that is the way that things are being managed.
-
so that we could afford to play skacel. people have been calling for skacel to be played since the start of the season but it has been obvious from the start that he is one of the 'high earners' and perhaps that has halted his first team chances. perhaps we could only afford to play him if another high earner was removed from the wage bill in the form of stern john. be careful what you wish for and all that..... personally i would rather we had kept stern, rudi is a luxury we cant afford imo.

its not over til the fat lady sings and all that.

Players Contracts especially appearance money
lordswoodsaints replied to exit2's topic in The Saints
i know for sure that rudi and rasiak are on vast amounts of appearnace money. -
tbh i think bart needs to leave as he is not firing on all cylinders and looks out of his depth, stern on the other hand will be needed here and it would be silly to let him go.

Are those who could invest the biggest traitors?
lordswoodsaints replied to Snowballs2's topic in The Saints
the truth is that the situation we are in has been forced upon us by our financial problems, these problems have many different reasons and the blame lies with many people including the fans. there probably are other options but we can no longer afford to experiment with changing managers and adding players to the squad who may or may not pay off.in the past(premiership days and parachute payment days) we could afford the luxury of changing a manager or buying a few players when things were not going to plan but those days have long gone, things are tight for everybody at the moment across the world so that also adds to an already bad situation. tbh i thought that we might have done better than we have so far but i am optimistic that we will still finish mid table.the situation we are in is not ideal and is far from secure but a lot of people it seems have given up before we have even got going. looking for another leader is not the best option, who would do the job? what would they be able to do different with the same resources? the answer is nothing much. if the 'experiment' was working would there be so much bile on here? of course not. in an ideal world i would like us to be like chelsea or manu, also in an ideal world i would be married to pamela anderson, win the lottery every saturday night and wipe my arse with £50 notes but it aint going to happen.the best we can hope for is to stay in this league until somebody finds us attractive enough to invest in,but this is very unlikely as well. the truth hurts and our plight is sad to witness, but it is unlikely to change in the near future and people need to come to terms with the situation and realise that all they can offer is their support financially and vocally for very little return for their efforts. the good times will return one day along with the fans, it is just going to be longer and harder than we all originally thought. if i was a millionaire fan i wouldnt invest in SFC unless the club looked likely to become non existent, unless this happened i would support the club like everybody else, perhaps from an executive box. -
the only thing that should be said is..... after we win - we were better than them on the day after we lose - they were better than us on the day if we draw - both teams cancelled each other out anything else is just ****** imo

we were punching above our weight, yes we did it with our own money, money that was generated by selling all of our better players and up and coming youngsters, but we had to sell to survive in the top flight, something that most people were not happy about so we cant have it both ways.we sold our family jewels to maintain our top flight status. there are only about 6 large clubs in the country so we are a small club,a small club that thinks it is bigger than it is,but this is echoed by about 95% of the clubs in the league. wilde and crouch took a gamble that we didnt win, they had banked on future income paying the debt and they lost, they counted their chickens before thay had hatched and they fvcked up and todays state of affairs is the payback for that mistake. at best we are a mediocre club in a mediocre league, you have to hope that one day we might get lucky and scrape a play off place but dont bank on it. im afraid most people still havnt come to terms with being relegated and until they do we will always have a fractured fan base arguing and bickering about who is to blame whilst the good ship southampton sinks into oblivion. it is time that people woke up and realised the bad situation we are in and started to back their team before it is too late.

listen mate,i applaud what you did,i cant be arsed to do something like that, all i want to do is watch football.i dont care about lowe or wilde,im not pro or anti lowe,i couldnt give a rats arse who sits in the directors box but i think you will find that the money from the sale of the players you mention has all been accounted for in numerous threads on the subject, admittedly though mistakes have been made some not all the fault of lowe. crouch and wilde took a gamble with the banks money and 'nearly paid off' is just not good enough when the money is not yours to gamble, something i believe lowe would of never allowed to happen. imo we wouldnt have gone straight back up,we were not good enough and i dont think that KP would have made the slightest bit of difference to that we are where we are because we deserve to be there.we have been punching above our weight for 20 years, long before lowe arrived. certain people who shall remain nameless have been draining the club for decades and have never been probed on the subject but for some reason lowe gets the blame for everything bad that happens to the club. just to reiterate i am not a lowe luvvie or a lowe hater and i admire your stance mate, but dont let your blind hatred of somebody spoil your support for the team you have loved all your life.there isnt going to be a change in the near future, nobody is waiting in the wings to take us to football heaven and abusing directors or throwing your scarf on the pitch will not force lowe to quit...............he cant, the banks wont let it happen until they are satisfied that their money is safe. im not having a personal dig at you,i just dont want to be sat in an even emptier stadium.
-
the reason for playing the 'reserve team' with a 'conference level manager' is precisely because crouch and wilde were living above their means in the previous season. this season is payback for letting burley loose with a few million and agreeing to pay donkeys over inflated wages.
-
i would agree with this. why does it have to be about taking sides, surely it should be about whats best for the club. i have said all along that the void left by lowes departure would have to be filled by something better than what we already have, and i dont see anything better bashing the door to st marys down. instead of bashing the pro lowes why dont the anti lowes come up with a sensible viable alternative that will take us forward, what is the point in getting rid of somebody whatever the cost...........its a bit of a gamble, probably one we cant afford. me?.........i just want what is best for the club so that i can continue to watch my team.
-
dont get on nicks back, hes a good bloke with the right intentions. he wants what we want,a full stadium. if you are going to hang a bloke for being passionate and having an opinion then we might as well all go home and give up.
-
i can understand why you acted the way you did,i like many others are p1ssed off with watching saints at the moment, but is it just a problem with lowe or would you have done the same thing if crouch was in charge? it is bad at the moment but dont let it put you off coming to games, although imo we have further to fall it will eventually get better........we have to keep believing otherwise we all might as well call it a day.
-
well if lowe is in charge of team affairs,he's certainly got us playing some decent football, all he has to do is start winning a few games and he will be hailed as a success.

will the designated penalty taker please stand up...
lordswoodsaints replied to lordswoodsaints's topic in The Saints
my mistake ,it was actually wotton who wrestled it off of robertson. -
Do we still back Jan Portveliet?
lordswoodsaints replied to The Fat Controller's topic in The Saints
id agree with that,it was always going to be a difficult job and i dont think anybody else would have done any better. we have what we have,we cant afford any better so we have to make the most of it. its harsh but thats life at the moment. -
because it definately wasnt any of those two numpties. surely JP must have designated somebody to take the pens?......why didnt surman step up? why was the ball wrestled away from robertson by Mcgoldrick? somebody has to take responsibility?
-
does any of this really matter? if we were fighting for promotion and playing some good football would this type of post even deserve some airtime? imo this is total rubbish, lowe is involved in some way with team affairs,he has to be,but to say that he is dictating how the players train and who plays is nonsense. there is only one person pulling the strings, somebody who we should be more worried about than lowe.................................the manager of barclays.

the problem is nobody wants to buy our club,we are not an attractive acquisition when the money is flowing freely around the world,so we are even less attractive in these hard financial times. the sad truth is that all of the 'stay-aways' as well as the attending fans will be labeled as the 'fans who bought the club to its knees' if the sh1t really does hit the fan. the stay aways (the ones who stay away because of lowe and wilde) should be ashamed of themselves,to stay away because of your dislike of one man is senseless. you are depriving your club of much needed finances which could make us slightly more attractive to any investors out there.depriving the club of your money is either going to force lowe to stay longer to try and rescue his investment or force the club into admin so where is the sense? you can be sure that that there are no investors out there willing to invest in us and if there are then they will be no better than what we have imo its time for the stay aways to put all of their differences behind them and start spending some money, they have to think back to the reasons that they started to support saints in the first place and how much pleasure the team has given them over the years. the reality is that lowe and wilde are here and will be until somebody buys them out (very unlikely) or the club goes down the pan(very likely) but in the meantime the club is crying out for your support financially and vocally. the fantasy is that the stay aways think that their actions will lead us to the promised land and rid our club of the undesirables (very very unlikely, unless admin looms large).

you are missing the point,im all for filling the ground even if that means letting people in for a knock down price, but for a supposed fan to turn round and say that they will not attend whilst RL is in charge then go to a game because it is free is a bit rich imo.
