  1. I take it you're referring to that wonderful Mr Ecclescake..?
  2. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/europe/8375326.stm I can hardly find words to describe the horror of this. I've tried to put myself in this poor bloke's position, and the sheer awfulness of it is beyond me. I've had the occasional bad nightmare in the past, and it doesn't even come close to the nightmare this man has actually suffered. Thankfully, at last after 23 years his sentence is over.
  3. I think that's pretty much the best thing I've seen them do, from the modern programme. It was only spoiled slightly by Clarkson's put-down afterwards. I only wish they'd go back and have another at getting that mission 100%. Superb TG TV.
  4. Well, it did once upon a time. It was called, with some originality, I might add, Microsoft Undelete.
  5. I suppose this news has already been picked up: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/leicestershire/8366581.stm
  6. But only in TMS.
  7. Over half the year I have buy nothing days. I don't need to tune into a particular day. I'm fully stocked up with buy nothing days. Tell you what; I was going to buy a new motorcycle cover next week, as mine is getting a little threadbare. But now I'll make sure I don't get it on the 28th.
  8. Nodded off with a slight excess of whisky, but came to just as Bolton V Blackburn was starting on MOTD2. All through it I was thinking, sh!t, I've missed it [spurs V Wigan]. But then I thought, ha..! You can't evade me BBC, I'll watch it on iPlayer. I went to the iPlayer shortly after MOTD2 finished, to find that the site was down for maintenance. So I came here to have a look around and then go back when maintenance was over. And as if to be f****** sh!tty about it on purpose, MOTD2 is NOT AVAILABLE on the iPlayer. When did that happen..?
  9. I'm not putting this into The Arts, because it has nothing to do with artistic merit. But then again, perhaps it has nothing to do Motoring. I suppose it has more to do with Motoring than Art, so here it is. However, the spot on the programme I'm going to highlight is the electric car they built [or their back-room staff built for them], they called Geoff/Hammerhead. I've always p!ssed myself laughing at the slightly ridiculous, that's smartly done, and the fake tests they carried out on G/H had me coughing and spluttering, although the whole sketch was funny. In particular, Hamster's oh my nose, oh my chest, in the crash test, was brilliant, especially when he got the timing slightly wrong and ended up speaking half of it as though breathing out helium. And the tuo hctaw [watch out run backwards] made me fall off the chair. Yes, Top Gear is utterly pathetic, and nowadays is almost a parody of itself, but it's great. Did anyone do the test on teletext afterwards..? What a complete saddo I was - 9/10 [and I only had go, before you comment]
  10. Jeez that reminds me of the stories about Saints tonking Wolves 9-3 in the 1960's. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/8365091.stm And only 1-0 at HT. Blimey, what a treat for Spuds fans. I might bother to watch that on MOTD2 myself.
  11. Err... I think you may have misconstrued David's meaning there, KH.
  12. Copied the new Star Trek DVD yesterday evening. As thesaint sfc predicted, it took AnyDVD to break the encryption. Once that was done I was able to fire up DVDShrink and choose Re-Author mode to analyse and then cherry pick the film from the rest of the stuff. Doing so meant that a film of 5.4Gb + selected 5.1 soundtrack of 200 odd Mb could be compressed down to 4.3Gb with very little loss of quality. Btw, I used AnyDVD on a free 21 day trial. Of course, even if I uninstall it, it will leave a registry entry. So the trick is to get rid of every last vestige of it, so that it doesn't know it's been on my PC before. Of course, if that doesn't work, I have two other PCs to use it on. Yes, maybe I should buy it. But really, I'm not a serial user of such software. Maybe once or twice a year only..? At least I can pass on a recommendation though.
  13. Just let me get this cape on. I'll show ya.
  14. I looked at this thread again, and then decided to find a site on the history of slot-car racing. I didn't bank on finding this level of detail though: http://www.ddavid.com/slot-car-gallery/slot_car_history.htm
  15. Would you two like to quit annoying each other and find some common ground instead..? And that's not an invitation to have a go at me either.
  16. Tbf, Burley is not half as bad as Saints supporters like to paint him. It's easy to jump on the George Burley is crap bandwagon, because most people who would have a good word to say about him have let that era go, or are too wise to pop their heads above the trench. It's quite clear that for Ipswich and Hearts, Burley did extremely well, even though Ipswich were finally relegated under his tenure. That speaks equally of the circumstances at Ipswich than purely about Burley. At Hearts he was doing very well, but fell out with the Board, and who could blame him. At Saints, he arrived with huge expectation on him, and nearly delivered. But we can see from the events after his time how awful it might have been to work under that regime. For Scotland he has been saddled with the now usual quality of Scottish players. OK, Walter Smith did better with them, but not everybody is Walter Smith, and certainly not Alex Ferguson, who steers clear of management of Scotland like it is a plague to be avoided. To me Burley is your average competent football manager who, given the right circumstances, will do well for a club, but won't be able to work miracles if things go against him. And how many managers can you say they will, work miracles when things go against them, anyway..? BTW, isn't it time this thread was over..?
  17. I liked the entire read, but this throwaway last line was surprisingly memorable. I use self stick stamps nowadays, but if I ever use one that needs licking, I'll spit instead. Excellent.
  18. Crikey Robsk II. Do you want to start paying us..? [no ironic emoticon, this time]
  19. I have to admit that Scalextric was always more about track and car fault finding than actual racing. But in its best moments it was really great fun. I ended up with a massive track, which could have gone from room to room, and my favourite cars were actually sidecars. They were incredibly quick, but you had to really slow down for corners, so it required real skill. I sold my layout in NZ in 1992 for about NZ$150.
  20. Nineteen, I think we need to learn to forgive and forget, on this one. And possibly go a little easier on our footballing heroes too. I suspect Wurzel might have learned his lesson. I hope so anyway.
  21. All good Tory sayings about Labour. There's good and bad in all things. I would like to think that the poorest in society are not in want, and can have a worthwhile life. But so much is still down to accident of birth or good or bad timing, and it is an issue that the Conservatives haven't a clue how to empathise with, despite many efforts by Cameron to convince us otherwise. Whereas, incredibly flawed that it is, the Labour Party still tries to address that fact. BTW, I'm not a socialist or labour voter.
  22. Can we stop all this retard and other insulting comments please. If someone has a different view to you, then try and explain your view to them, if you can't understand theirs, that is. Read the forum rules and you'll see that insults to other members are definitely not allowed.
  23. If that was a cheap attempt at humour it wasn't that funny. Besides, you got it wrong again. I don't want any game replayed. You really ought to read and understand before you make comments. Humour works best [or at all] when there's actually a ring of truth in what is being broadcast. Perhaps you could try using some.
  24. Sad to see him go, when he does. But it's almost inevitable. He just doesn't suit the play of this team. Pity really because, like Lambert recently, he was on fire for a few months, and we ALL were singing his praises. Still a class player. Just not in this league. Thanks Saga, and best of luck.
  25. Bloody hell, Verbal too. Blimey, we really start something here. Maybe our own thread..?
