  1. Lost my connection, but followed the match on Radio Solent. Have to say, that when Charlton scored, I wasn't worried in the slightest. Have I been cured of the last 5/6 seasons, at last..?
  2. Indeed. That chance Charlton just had, I could have dealt with, and I was always sh!te in goal.
  3. Saints supporters are impressively loud.
  4. Blue shirts clash..? Deja Vu.
  5. Being re-introduced back into Scotland. Lots of Scottsmen are happy about this, I hear.
  6. Must chip in about Franny Benali's excellent quality summing up. He's quite the pundit.
  7. Dare I say another looks likely..?
  8. You mean when we score the goals needed to win the game..?
  9. Christ almighty, Saints are so fast, and the passing is excellent.
  10. The BBC says League One strugglers. Bloody cheek..! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/e/eastbourne_borough/8355785.stm
  11. Frankly, I'd hate to think that my writing, being held up to the public gaze, resulted in a mother suffering from an intensified sense of grief, just because I may have accidentally written an m instead of an n or whichever way round it is supposed to have been written. I think, that when the media are so out to get you, that a small misplaced letter can count for so much, then it's time to take another look at that media. The Sun newspaper has, since its tabloid inception, back in the late 1960's, certainly not let the facts get in the way of a [good] story. This is a story alright, but it isn't even a good one. I suppose what I'm saying is... don't ever become famous in a responsible position, lest you make the slightest error.. or, is it good fun shouting abuse from the cheap seats..?
  12. It is referred to as Climate Change nowadays because it is thought that this more accurately reflects what is happening to the planet on a scale that people can relate to, or understand. Not because scientists apparently got it wrong. Global Warming is just part of a naturally occurring Earth cycle. Human influenced GW, is the subject that is up for debate amongst many people, and is undeniable in that, however small and insignificant we are to the planet, our pollution makes a difference the Earth's climate. It's the degree of difference which is up for grabs. Many people say, let's be cautious, as we cannot undo our damage, if we truly are doing it. And others say, we're hardly making any difference at all, and anyway, we don't a f***. But most people stick their heads in the sand and say, don't bother me with cramping my lifestyle, I don't want to know.
  13. Do remember that this is The Lounge, and not TMS. Unless you actually believe that because we may have global warming it should be warm in GB at this time of the year. My apologies for your ignorance if you do. Google up the Earth's energy budget and see if that helps.
  14. I think we have become a nation of people who are constantly being told what to do, or are being so well informed that people are actually being turned off. Gone are the days when someone could legitimately say, I don't know, because there's invariably some good advice somewhere if you just can be bothered to Google for it. I suppose that gives the non-internet users an excuse, but it is sheer laziness if people don't know or won't find out about everyday things, such as how to buy and make the most of food without huge wastage. Yes, there are contributors to this forum who will say they waste as much as they want, and don't give a monkey's about it. Well, they are the major losers with their belligerent ignorance, but it inevitably costs us all. As TDD says, the Govt would do better to inform the manufacturers, supermarkets and other shops to cut down on the packaging where possible. Then we consumers would have less to throw away, and may do so more willingly, encouraged by the fact that we are not alone doing our bit. Have a look at this video. It's a clip from The Day The Universe Changed, and was made by the BBC back in the mid-80's. I found it very much registered with my thinking at the time, and I still occasionally refer to it, like now. This is from the episode, Credit Where's It's Due, and deals with industrial expansion and the working society upto the mid-80's. In terms of consumption, I would say we are worse off today than back then, despite our so-called awareness. Although the clip is just over 7 minutes long, there's no point in starting from the beginning, as you may as well start from the beginning of the programme itself. Have a go from about 4.00 minutes in and watch the writer and presenter, James Burke's summary. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4jjg3kb2bps What he was saying back then, the average person was blindly oblivious to, IMO. I have to say that my confused concerns about resource consumption were jarred into focus by his words.
  15. Ssssshhh..!
  16. Dive; fall over; whatever. Call it what you will. When I write dive, I mean he went over without contact from any opposition player. It's not meant to criticise Phillips. I have wondered whether he knew he'd fallen over due to tripping himself up, and hence gaining a penalty, or whether someone had clipped him. In the clip, he looks quite poe-faced - no reaction at all. Guilty or innocent..?
  17. Hooray..! Another member of the forum who realises he can edit his own posts. That must be at least half-a-dozen, by now.
  18. But TDDs, AdrianSFC said it just above you. You have to make a start somewhere, even though most of it seems like p!ssing in the wind. Let's start by buying and consuming food responsibly, and not wasting it. Is that so difficult..? You can still buy too many pints of beer, bottles of wine and spirits. Just drink what you pour into your glass..! :smt030
  19. Re: hamster's hint of mozying off to Spotify. So did I, but my Steely Dan adventure lasted 5 tracks. Don't ask me how but I ended up playing 1000 Umbrellas by XTC. No apologies - superb.
  20. Same here. I've a very limited Steely Dan collection, but have been playing it for the last 20 minutes. Brilliant stuff, which I'm going to fill in with a bit of Spotify.
  21. There are very clear words and dates which say: Best Before --/--/---- Sell By --/--/---- Use By--/--/---- While reading Bexy's link, I noted in the text that the Use By date is the one that ALL PEOPLE MUST ADHERE TO. Well, I'm f***** if I will. I'll use my own good sense to know when something can't be eaten, even if it is well past the Use By date. An example is Greek Yoghurt, which actually can have a surprisingly long shelf life in the fridge. But according to the Use By date, it is always much less. Not so. Use your wits. If it looks bad, smells bad, it almost always is bad, and almost always not before those signs emerge. I mean, it's not as if we are trying to separate poisonous from edible mushrooms. In that case, you need to know your onions, I mean, mushrooms.
  22. Quite right. And we are hurtling into a future where we will need to be resourceful, and many people are forgetting how to be. And in just a few short generations too. Strange isn't it..? How we are supposed to remember the dead in the World Wars, but we don't remember for a second how the living coped. I suggest we remember.
  23. You were initially preciously close to me moving this to General Sports. But I see the significance of keeping it here... just.
  24. Now onto Elton John - Blue Moves. One of the best things he ever did, although it was quite a low key affair. People may remember Crazy Water and Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word. But in actual fact the best tracks from my point of view are One Horse Town and Chameleon. Elton John at his best, which let's be fair, wasn't bad at all.
