Another lazy peice of journalism about saints
St Landrew replied to alki_in_korea's topic in The Saints
Oh yes I did. I also noticed saint peach had forgotten to complete the line... ...on behalf of [the] Press Association... But that's not what the subject was about, was it..? And I thought I'd managed to cover all the angles. If you going to be pedantic, it might help if you read the entire thread. -
Carrying on my period theme to save this thread from the conventional:
-
Oh crikey, of course. I'm just going on looks alone though, as the thread title suggests.

Indeed. Those that criticise could look to their own mistakes. Last time I looked, peice was spelled [or spelt, for the pedants] piece. Perhaps we can break out some peace, at this point. We can all do typos. What really annoys is lazy journalistic opinion without foundation or fact to back it up. -
Not had much personal experience, but I understand the Michel Thomas method of learning works extremely well. http://www.michelthomas.co.uk/ The prime advantage is that there is NO homework, and NO having to make notes, or strict memorising. It's all conversation. Pretty much like learning a language if you go on a long holiday for a month or more. You pick it up. I do have some CDs for Italian myself, and had a go for 5 minutes with one. I did construct a phrase fairly quickly during listening, so the method does appear to work. When I get the urge to learn properly, I'll give them a real go.

If we're talking about National Anthems, I have a few I like. The Italian one is particularly good, and the French one is fine. The Spanish Anthem has a musical phrase in it which reminds me of the old song we used to sing on Firework night, which carried the line... please to remember the 5th of November... so it occasionally makes me smile. The New Zealand one is nice too. I absolutely loathe God Save The Queen. It's a complete dirge, and it celebrates nothing about the actual country. If by some Act of Parliament we could change it to Jerusalem or Land Of Hope And Glory, I'd be quite happy. They maybe [slightly] dodgy jingoistic tunes, but they sound superb.

It's not Katie Price I wonder about. It's the hundreds of thousands of no-brains who have helped put her in the elevated position in the first place. What do these people find so bloody fascinating..? My advice to those people is to stop oggling celebrities and go and do something exciting with your lives, just once in a while. Over the course of years, on and off, I've had the opportunity to take a few closed-eyed teenagers sailing. Each time, they were complete sheep types, with little or no independent thought. To be frank, they were living, breathing, cheap celebrity magazines. The first time the wind filled the sails, and we started surfing, you could see their eyes light up. Sure, it was potentially frightening, but they were actually experiencing something for themselves. For their sakes, I hope the lesson lasted.

Pardew nailed it with his comments. Nice to see that he is confident enough to have a look at a few options and players. At 3-0, I suppose it did look safe. At 3-2 not so. But then that's what 3-0 allows you, i.e. to concede twice, for various reasons, and still win. Have to say that before AP came to Southampton I respected him as a very capable manager, but who wouldn't be my first choice to take over the team. Well, considering the settling in period, and the -10 points, I honestly don't think many managers could have done better, and any of those who might have are already gainfully employed elsewhere, in higher divisions.

My Scalextric set had something like this on the box cover. Hence, this is what F1 cars should look like. With proper tyres, not balloons. Hey, there's enough space on most tracks to get two side-by-side.

The sat/nav may be more accurate, in theory, but it isn't often acutely accurate in practice. It depends on the quality of the chip, and its requirement of satellites, and other variables. Often in the past, a sat/nav has exchanged speed for accuracy. As sotonjoe says, they're both out a bit. The speedo almost certainly more so than the sat/nav. But don't automatically condemn it.

That comment made me go and look: OUCH..! I remember thinking at the time, why on earth did we let Paul Rideout go..? Probably the best header of a ball since Ron Davies.

Ok, ok Saint Clark. You've made your point. I take it you're still pleased with the win though. Earlier you said you were one of the more optimistic posters on here, but on the evidence of this evening, I beg to doubt it, ever so slightly. However, as mentioned before, point taken.

Don't moan about it too much. Think about the Beeb coverage that cannot be watched by overseas Saints fans. It must be nice for them to have an alternative. Besides, the British viewing public apparently don't watch anything other than Chelsea, ManU, Arsenal, Liverpool, which says a lot about the media, or the 88 other teams in the league. Personally, I couldn't a monkey's about those 4 teams. Who are they anyway..? They don't represent me. Why would I want to watch them..?

Just finished Listening to Blue Moves - Elton John from 1976 just about 20 minutes ago. Haven't put it on in perhaps 10 years. Sounded really good, especially One Horse Town and Chameleon. Of course, Out Of The Blue is the closing theme for the old Top Gear programme. That took me back. Perhaps in another 10 years...

Bristol Rovers 2- 3 Saints - You Tube of saints goals here
St Landrew replied to Baj's topic in The Saints
Well done, Baj. Nice recovery on the 3rd goal too. -
Excellent result. Saints into the 2nd round, but looking at the league table, as a measure of quality, Rovers would be roughly on a par with Saints [without the -10 points]. However, this result wasn't stolen, it was extracted. The better team won, away from home and Saints ARE better than Bristol Rovers. All this quality has to do from now on in, is to notch up points in the league. The turnaround is happening, and we are witnessing it. Great feeling, going into the weekend.

I've got an interview somewhere, where Dave Beasant extolls the virtues of MLT saying, not only was he supremely skilled, but he was a heck of a scholar as well, e.g. picking up the fact that Schmeichel stood well off his line, for a lot of the time. If you look at the goal [almost everywhere including Youtube], Matty doesn't even look up to see where Schmeichel is. He knows. For me, the best football is intelligent football.
-
Then be optimistic. Personally, I wouldn't give a toss if we lost. It's the league that counts, but I realise winning does a lot for confidence, whichever competition Saints are in. Winning away to Bristol Rovers is a nice indicator of where we are.

Ah, I see. 3-1 up and already Pardew has made a massive mistake. There's no pleasing some people. How about, Pardew's HT team talk was brilliant, but I think he may have made a slight error since, with the subs, IMO. I'm tempted to say something extra, but I'd have to award myself an infraction.

I can see both 3D pictures; the second one being a Y in a circle, but I don't know what the first one is supposed to be. Vaguely looks like a couple of birds standing in some grass.
-
My first reaction is that he'll need to look to his own fanbase. Bolton's average crowds aren't that big at all, and often there are wide open spaces at The Reebok.
-
1st half whistle goes. 2nd half begins with ManU in Blue & White shirts. More excuses. They are supposed to be better players. Lots of action. ManU get one back 3-1, and the game ends. Isn't it amazing how I can move time around to my whim..? The next game I fancy re-watching is the next season's match.
-
Shipperley crosses from the right, Schmeichel comes out to grab, but loses it, and it falls to Le Tiss, who pops it over his head, and with 2 ManU defenders throwing themselves about, finds the only place where he's guaranteed to beat them - hitting the inside of the far post. Cue mayhem..! 3-0. Saints just making ManU look second rate now.

Benali clatters Cantona. Cantona walks away. Well he would, would he..?
