  1. Exactly. He has no idea of the British mentality, and that is, cheer on the underdog, and have the big boys get a little lesson in how to lose. EDIT: And of course, he's right in one way. Button IS in a competitive car at last, which is why he's making good use of it. Are great drivers meant to get out of their slow cars and push them to victory or something..? Even the fastest driver in the slowest car will get nowhere. To my mind, some of the fastest considered drivers ever, had their reputations hugely enhanced because they just happened to be in the very best car, most of the time.
  2. In time young Deppo. At the moment, in my imagination amidst the South Seas, I'm thinking of a mixCD to take with me on my very first trip on my VFR in a couple of weeks time. Goodnight.
  3. Got in and the late evening started off brightly with the album Rattus Norvegicus. What a great return. It was a split decision between that and No More Heroes, and it won. Joe Jackson got another look in with the whole of I'm The Man. Then goodness knows why, I went onto Donovan with tracks like Catch The Wind and Jersey Thursday. Perhaps it's because I've been thinking of the the ex-missus of late, as she's been quite ill in NZ, and it'll be a long time until I see her again. Of course XTC made an appearance. It would be criminal if something penned by Andy Partridge or Colin Moulding didn't do something for my soul, so Yacht Dance went on. If someone said, write the perfect lilting sailing song, this would be it. How AP gets the precise rhythm of a bobbing boat into music I'll never know. And now I've finished with music, and am listening to a radio drama version of Mutiny On The Bounty with the late Oliver Reed as Captain Bligh. It stays very, very close to the novel written by Charles Nordoff and James Norman Hall, which is all the complete public account there is. Great stuff too. Love sea adventures, and this one is as adventurous as they get.
  4. It has. It's called a football club.
  5. Please Ponty, I would ask you to be slightly more sensitive. I have today bought a Honda VFR800Fi, and I don't intend to be making any donations, thank you very much. Hopefully, car drivers will have their eyes open long enough, as I pass. Which shouldn't take too long. BTW, I have seen the Vietnam special, and I had forgotten that JC practically learned to motorcycle during the trip.

    Knowing

Cage was not bad at all in Leaving Las Vegas. Can't think of any other film though where he's been good. Perhaps, Captain Corelli's Mandolin, but he would have had to have been Keanu Reeves to screw up that role.
  7. Well I've never seen that one, although I have been told it's good. The title doesn't inspire though. Titles are important. Do have a go at Catch Me If You Can. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, right down to the excellent opening jazz score. [Youtube the score] He even puts everyman actor, Tom Hanks into second place. I'll say no more. The Aviator is a biopic of Howard Hughes, and LDC does a very good job of capturing the spirit of the man. Don't get me wrong, I don't look forward in the slightest to an upcoming LDC picture. But looking back, I'm surprised by how many films he's improved by being in them IMO.
  8. Oh ok. I only ask because, if you remember, last season at Spa, when Hamilton let Raikkonen through, McLaren asked Charlie Whiting if they had done enough to satisfy the race stewards, and he said, Yes. Given those examples, I would say his judgement is rather flawed.
  9. Having been linked to JC's Times column, I read a couple of his efforts. Here' his take on why we, in the West, buy cars. http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/jeremy_clarkson/article5251469.ece Tbh, I couldn't agree with him less, because cars are convenient A to B machines, to me. My days of fast cars are over. Now a fast motorbike is something totally different and emotional. And JC doesn't relate to them in the slightest, which is surprising, as they do all that he enjoys, only faster. Hammond and May love them, though. Perhaps he never learned to ride..?
  10. That's true. But at least St Stevo now knows that the technology is fine, but his TV is sh!te, teletext wise.
  11. Yeah, get with the vedging..!
  12. But that doesn't explain anything. Nobody is any the wiser if I did that.
  13. Lol. Al, my old Phillips can do what you ask too.
  14. Oh come on, Bexy. He's also brilliant in Catch Me If You Can, which I watched the other day. And in The Aviator. I'll grant you he initially comes over as someone you want to punch, but most of time he wins you over. Now Keanu Reeves; there's someone who needs knocking down, good and proper.
  15. Why did Renault drop their diffuser on the basis of what the race director said, Ponty..? Surely, there was an immediate higher authority..?
  16. There's nothing wrong with the technology. It depends on how well equipped the TV is to take it. I have an old 28" Phillips widescreen TV, which I bought over a rival set, back in 2000 because, while everything else was equal, it had superior teletext capabilities. Basically, once you selected teletext, it loaded every page you could immediately go to, while you were reading the current page. It had a 1000 page capacity. Flicking to the next page, or any other was a doddle and took a spilt second. Still does, if I choose to watch analogue TV. Presumably, there is a digital set out there capable of the same performance. Now, did I over-elaborate that..?
  17. Hmm. you'd be surprised how many tracks Spotify doesn't have. The other day, of 6 entries I typed in, there was no record of 3 of them. So mixlists would have to be Spotify verified first, before being submitted.
  18. If I didn't you may not understand. Oh, looks like I was right.
  19. Clarkson knows a lot of cars, He doesn't know a lot about cars. He doesn't seem to know the detail and internal parts that make a car. He even refers to torque i.e the turning force a car engine can generate, as torques, so he manages to get the understanding and language incorrect. By his own admission, he's hardly ever lifted a spanner, and I doubt if he even knows what actual components are required to make an engine or running parts. Whereas I would consider important things like price, performance, longevity, ease of maintenance, efficiency and economy; all these things are lost on him. With Jeremy it's all about laddishness and lifestyle. Which is a trillion miles away from how I view a car. And for all his supposed style, he even manages not to appreciate icon cars like the Citroen DS1. But I'll still watch him, because he can occasionally come up with the right sentence at the right time. And then he's worth all the bullsh!te.
  20. OK, different types. I used to go into places like Tesco occasionally [that's another story] but since stopping shopping there, and keeping Sainsbury and the like down to a minimum, preferring the butcher and [green]grocer, etc... I don't tend to come across these types. Food shopping is also much more of a pleasure than the chore it used to be too.
  21. Well that dried up quite quickly, and so I'm listening to The Only Living Boy In New York which can only be followed by So Long Frank LLoyd Wright. Then who knows. It's a day of waiting for phone calls to come back, and then I have to respond pronto, so a lot of listening is going to happen today. Perhaps it's time for bash on the Epiphone.
  22. Oops, having a little Jimi moment with Ezy Rider. This might turn into quite a session.
  23. Had a little Joe Jackson bop earlier, with the albums, Night & Day and Body & Soul. Good stuff, but JJ's frantic delivery had to be counterbalanced afterwards by Have You Ever Been [To Electric Ladyland], by Jimi, to bring back my karma.
  24. I don't think it's chavism. I think its roots lie in being european, because many europeans have a graze at produce they are about to buy, to see if it is of decent enough quality, or to compare with other produce. We British tend to look down on what is perfectly reasonable behaviour. I join in when in France or Italy, but refrain from doing it in Britain. BTW, I think you need to change the shops you purchase from if you're getting angry. It's obviously bothering you a lot. Are you sure it isn't just the noise of screaming kids and commerce that bothers you..?
