  1. Hmm, 4 Premiership teams will be out of the competition after this round is played. This competition could be worth a real shot at. Semi-Finals anyone..?
  2. Me neither. Perhaps it was just one supporter. That would be enough for the Daily Mail to be off on one of their fantasies.
  3. For today's prices that doesn't seem too bad. You want to make sure that doesn't climb for any reason, i.e. it's a guaranteed price. Remember, once they've got your car up on the ramp with the gearbox out, you're in their hands. You don't want to be hearing the.. oh, we've found this extra thing and it's going to cost... codswallop, unless it is totally justified. And no leaking shock absorbers either..!
  4. This is the same Paul Rideout who was often brilliant for Saints..? And Mark Hughes was at the end of his career. I think he did his bit. By all means have your [players] Ali Dia, Delgado, etc.. and [boardroom] Guy Askham. But let's not include players who did the Shirt some justice.
  5. Guess which single football club had both The Football Of The Year and The Young Footballer Of The Year in the same season..? And who were the players..? I know you'll know LGSC. But let's see if the post-Dell fans know. Oh, and here's a clue. You don't get to be awarded one of those titles without being an outstanding footballer, even if only for one season.
  6. Halfords..? Argos..? I'm thinking of stores with websites so you can look before you go to the store and buy.
  7. Excellent read. If Jan walks as well as he talks we're in for a cracking season. Love his attitude.
  8. Tbf, Arizona, not many Saints strikers have had the chance to score loads of goals against Pompey. Chiefly, after the 1950's, and before recently, they've always been in a lower division.
  9. Fair enough TDD. Let's agree to disagree on that one. Having seen some of the games Saints played with Sturrock in charge, I would say he was prematurely got rid of. Man City at Eastlands 3-1. Wolves at Moulineux 4-1, where Claus scored his first goal. Sturrock didn't have long, but he made an impression. I thought he deserved far better treatment, and more of a chance back then. But that's history and today is the reality. I can't even remember off hand how many managers he was ago..!
  10. I just love your Jalfrezing..!
  11. For me, Sturrock's sacking, sorry leaving by mutual agreement, and the chaotic appointment of Steve Wigley was, the if only moment of then and subsequent seasons. I firmly believe we would have not been relegated if Sturrock had stayed on, even though we lost Michael Svennson to injury. After that, who knows..? EDIT: Of course, people will say hindsight is a wonderful thing. But I criticised the Wigley appointment from day one knowing it was wrong.
  12. Yeah, I think Beattie deserves a place in a list of greatest Saints strikers. He did his bit. I could point to some excellent work and goals from Beattie. He's certainly not the best, but he's up there. He's never remotely been as good before or since.
  13. Well Rupert took responsibility for relegation from the Premiership. He said so himself. He even offered to resign, but it was not accepted by the Board. I think that's where people might be getting their ideas from. Btw, let's not get into a slanging match people, please.
  14. Would have loved to have seen Derek Reeves scoring goals. I was lucky enough to see practically all of the great strikers at Saints when they were in the top flight. They were all excellent in their own way. Just to be contrary, I'll add Ted MacDougall.
  15. That's a shame. He was a pretty good performer too, until he went behind the scenes into production. Responsible for producing some of the best comedy on radio.
  16. I'm well aware of that 70's Mike. Do you know they used to play football before the Premiership existed..? No, I'm really not kidding. Unbelievable, isn't it..?
  17. Indeed. There are any number of more inspired signings Southampton have made. One from the Guardian list alone is Peter Shilton. Well we signed him too..! Utter twaddle.
  18. Don't worry, Ottery. There's plenty of us who appreciate the very many brilliant things that LM did for this club. He did the one little thing of leaving when he realised he couldn't take Saints any further at the time, and decided to put some money in his pocket by going to Sunderland. You'd have thought it was a criminal offence the way some people regard his actions of the time. Lawrie's OK, and his achievements completely overshadow any failings.
  19. Spot on..! Here's a direct quote taken from the book - Match Of The Millennium, Game no. 62. That was brilliant..! Like Rimmer [against ManU 4-1] he stayed on his line. Thanks Bonetti. Whoosh..! - Ron Davies. I broke my leg. My first game back was against Southampton, at home and we lost 6-2. I scored two goals, but Ron Davies scored four..! Great player, wasn't he..? Ron wasn't the biggest centre forward, but he just used to hang up in the air there. He'd get up there about five minutes before the ball was coming and say "Just stick it there and I'll knock it in for you" Unbelievable..! - Peter Osgood.
  20. If you want to make a contribution, any amount would be appreciated. The club still take cheques on behalf of the Give It To Ron appeal. www.giveittoron.co.uk No apologies for yet another plug.
  21. Thanks for that, TT. As I keep hold of the coffers for www.giveittoron.co.uk , and receive the statements each month, I can expect a big hole to suddenly appear in the finances - and for a very good cause. If I haven't mentioned it before, thanks for stepping in and doing your part. And of course, very many thanks to your partner Stephanie. Keep us informed.
  22. I'll say this for you, Arizona, you certainly know your Onion Bahjis.
  23. Not bad. What about the bit between the La la's though..? People can't sing Hey Jude, can they. Come up with a neat replacement and you've got something.
  24. What a load of Rogan Josh.
  25. I can see why Poortvliet wanted to sign Pulis. If he's a combatitive type, that gives us another string to the bow when it is required. Plus, I would imagine Poortvliet fancies he can get more out of the lad than people have in the past. Let's face it, he's getting a lot of our present squad. Why should Pulis respond any differently..?
