  1. As usual, Na na, Kiss 'em Goodbye rears it's ugly head. Just change the Na na, Na na to La Lallana, and Goodbye to Good Guy [or something better]. Easy to sing, and everybody knows the tune. So everybody sings it. EDIT: Oops, I see someone has already suggested it [hangs head in shame].
  2. I have a Space Shuttle space picture as my wallpaper on one of my PCs. But I love that set. The last one of the atmospheric distortion of the Moon, as it sets over Cuba, is superb. Saved it.
  3. I'm not a fan of electronic tagging of people who have served their punishment, but paedophilia could be a condition where it may be desirable for the protection of children. It doesn't limit the wearer's ability to travel, but it does mean they know they are being monitored. In a sense, it is for their own well-being too.
  4. Completely agree with Robsk II on this. GG isn't even a sick bastard. He's neither physically unwell [although his heart may be a bit dodgy] and he is not illegitimate as far as I know. He's a paedophile, and that is unacceptable in our society. Sorry if that's dull too.
  5. I love old SAABs for their toughness and quirky looks. I had 2 900s. One an injection 4-door saloon, and the other a turbocharged 5-door hatchback. Both lovely, but I still think the old 99 really looks the part. A beefy mid-sized car that looks great and will run forever. This is a 99 EMS from 1974. If it hasn't been involved in an accident, what's the betting it's still running..? Think I'll check that number plate out. EDIT: Wahay, it still exists..! Was last taxed in 2000. Bet it's locked up somewhere, hopefully NOT rotting away. Hate to see that happening.
  6. Back in the early 90's, my sister had a very old SAAB 99. One of the first ones. She was merrily pottering along when a Nissan Bluebird taxi pulled out in front of her. Result was that the Nissan driver's door was ripped off, the taxi driver and driver's seat ended up in the road, and the front offside wheel/drive assembly was ripped away completely, and rolled up the road. The old SAAB had its nearside composite bumper pushed in a bit, and the headlamp glass/flasher was broken. After the necessary insurance bits and bobs were done, my sister drove the SAAB back home. It was fine. SAAB made tough cars in those days.
  7. OK, this is a thread about CBs, but that's a good point about BWP, which I want to comment on. I find that BWP is a perfectly capable player. He has plenty of skill, speed and balance. What he lacks is between his ears. He does all the things wrong that require thought and vision; i.e. staying onside, playing the right pass, knowing when to run, and when to stay put. That kind of thing can easily be coached into a player, but they have to have the brains to assimilate it. I'm not at all sure at the moment that BWP does have that capacity.
  8. Much as I think Michael Svensson is the best CB in the Championship, bar none, I do do feel that his having to rest his knee, and so being restricted to one game per week, is almost an advantage to Poortvliet. It encourages the coach to bring on the younger CBs while we have this situation. Of course, I'd rather Michael Svensson's knee was 100%, but a 90% Michael Svensson is better than none at all.
  9. LOL. Had a good belly laugh. Love the name drop.
  10. Robsk, wait for Handyman to appear. I think I've got his e-mail address somewhere. He's not paid the £5 as far as I'm aware, but he could give you the advice you need in one post. I'll e-mail him and see. My own 5 eggs opinion is that it is the clutch release bearing that is shot.
  11. Did anyone see a crash test conducted by 5th Gear, involving a Volvo 940 and a bang upto date Renault Modus. The Volvo was one of the last cars, with crumple zones, designed without the major use of computers. But was always considered extremely safe under Volvo crash tests. The Renault Modus is just a modern computer aided design car with air-bags. So they ran the cars at a 60mph closing speed, slightly off centre so that they hit on the driver's side of front. The Volvo collapsed like a good crumple zone car should, and so did the Renault. But the drivers cab in the Volvo also buckled inward, whereas the Renault was almost totally intact. It was quite an eye opener. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=qBDyeWofcLY
  12. IE8 Beta is out for your pleasure... http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/beta/default.aspx
  13. I think you'd better provide a quick explanation line such as above each time you post a message on Alpine's behalf, NickG. You know how people are apt to take the wrong slant on things.
  14. And talking about Triumphs, how about this beauty..? The Italia 2000 Coupe: EDIT: Sadly, this is nothing like as good as the original picture I placed on here. But it's the best replacement I can find: Original picture is back, but too big to put here. Here's the link: http://www.oldtimergala.de/content/produktfotos/1186435917Triumph_Ital.jpg Yes, this is the company that gave you the TR7, the Toledo, and Acclaim. But this is Aston Martin/Jaguar gorgeous.
  15. Again, not a film but some old DivX's I've got off the shelf. James Burke's The Day The Universe Changed science history series from 1985. Cracking stuff, NOT chock full of special effects, but loaded to the gunnels with good philosophy, insight, and historical facts. Love the way he predicts the coming of the world wide web, of society changing fundamentally, and the explosion of everyday modern technology, which itself was underway during the series. There is a scene in one of the programmes which is quite staggering. It involves JB standing on a balcony while narrating his piece about advances in microtechnology, overlooking 3 engineers kneeling down in a circle, on a huge piece of white paper. They are concentrating on a square inch of the paper, and pointing out some tiny transistor gate design, an how it affects the immediate area. The paper is the area of a basketball court in square, and the design they are looking at is a 286 microchip. And we know how old they are now. It was a staggering image at the time, but just think how big an ordinary Pentium IV chip would be to the same scale. For those that don't know him, JB is a kind of Dan Cruickshank for science. But without the height. And JB has glasses. Here's a website and photo of JB today: http://k-web.org/public_html/jbmessage.htm And here's a tiny snippet from the last programme. There were 10 programmes, an hour long each. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=mB8_wPei2ZM
  16. So is this, but I still don't want one: Actually, that's not true as mine has started leaking again. Let's just call that a bad example, and have this one instead: The Lada tank.
  17. Oh le god, not another person writing brought, when they mean bought, as in purchased. I've heard about three people in the last week saying this. I swear I'll punch the next person who can't speak or write more than two sentences without screwing up. :smt076 Perhaps I should make it my mission in life to teach all the brought people. A kind of, bring and buy education.
  18. Must admit, ITV had a little interesting winner on their hands in Bad Lads Army. No wonder they killed it off. To watch these little mouthy idiots, who clearly hadn't the faintest clue what they were in for, slowly buckle under, and find that, underneath all their bullsh!t, there existed a half-decent person that they could be ever-so-slightly proud of, was entertaining and educational to watch. I wonder what percentage of them made the change permanent. If the individuals had had an ounce of sense it would have been every one of them. Now, like the man said, there's bugger all else on ITV.
  19. I couldn't be bothered to wade through the entire thread either. So I'll go back to the beginning of the topic and nominate my own day of reckoning: 13/13/13 - Geddit..?
  20. Did a bit of lighting circuitry only the other day. I now have a very functional exterior security light. It only took me 7 years to fit it.
  21. just to back up DSMs advice. Newer colours Brown - Live Blue - Neutral Green/Yellow - Earth Old Colours Red - Live Black - Neutral Dark Green - Earth Hope you're not dead yet. You should be OK, the lighting circuit doesn't have the oomph that the ring main does. It'll shock you, but it won't catapult you across the room. Hope that reassures you. EDIT: Sure that blue isn't dark green..?
  22. Blimey. I was at that game and thought we were OK'ish. Just shows how low my expectations were. This was excellent though: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=sA6jfxxQt-o
  23. Yeah, but for 1983 [note your pic], that was a reasonably good looking car. And no, I didn't have one. The Saloon version - the Montego, was awful. The shape just didn't work at all.
  24. Volvo 740 - Ooer.
  25. You're joking..? Surely one of the cutest cars ever made. And I'm very proud to say, I have ridden in one as well. They're cuter than an old Mini if thats possible.
