  1. Just shows it's never over until it's finished.
  2. I'll let you in on a bit of news. It isn't all doom and gloom if Saints don't get promoted this season. But let's how we look after the next two home games anyway.
  3. Oh..! Well if you can use your most persuasive manner Dune [and I just know you've got it in you] to convince those teams above Saints to stop it with all that nasty inconvenient winning of their games, then we might close the gap on them before the season ends. Otherwise, I think we'll have to leave it to the team and Pardew.
  4. Amistad Been saving this for years. Every time someone has offered me the DVD to borrow, I've turned it down until I was in the mood for it. Then it came on TV last year, and so I recorded it. Well late night I decided to watch it. Can't honestly say it held me in thrawl. Sure it is good, but my expectations were high, and it got nowhere near them. Acting wise, it was very uneven, IMO. I guess I don't how a kidnapped negro from a far land would behave, but by god, Djimon Hounsou gives something like the account of it I would imagine. There's the faintest touch of the token noble savage about it, but it is so powerful as to blow that away. He's brilliant, and steals every scene he's in. Matthew McConaughey is the only other one who comes out of this with any other credit, really. He's very good, and just shows that he can do thoughtful stuff and not just fast action adventure. I noticed most of the ugly or nasty US characters that were up front were played by English actors. I wonder why Hollywood does this..? Do they think they'll harm any US actors careers if they are asked to play characters from America's less than savoury parts of history, or do US actors turn these parts down..? Anyway, an uncaring ninth US President was played invisibly by Nigel Hawthorne, and the prosecuting attorney was played OK by Pete Postlethwaite. Talking about invisibility, Morgan Freeman must have done all his acting while I was blinking, because all he seemed to do was stare back at the captives, and get John Quincy Adams to refuse to help the cause, time and again. Which brings me onto Anthony Hopkins as Adams. I don't know why, but I can never get my head around Hopkins mechanical caricature way of acting. Why doesn't he just do it, instead of trying to be a bloody chameleon..? Suffice to say, he added nothing for me, and his trial ending speech had very little impact. Perhaps because this was based on fact, and tried to keep close to the original story, there actually was as little drama as there appeared to be. Nobody, apart from the two mentioned above, seemed to actually give a sh!t, and so consequently, above and beyond the rightful injustice of the historical event, neither did I. In all honesty, I started to nod off. Oh dear.
  5. JP tells a story of growing up, going to footy with his Dad and watching Pompey from the stands of Fratton Park..! Where did I hear that..? Late Kick Off, of course. I'll forgive him for that, and he's still the best current football commentator for my money, although Kris Temple is a cracking radio football commentator. Anyway, I digress. Nice to hear some sensible comment in the debate of who's best, Lambert or Beckford. I would have thought it a no-brainer, myself.
  6. As do all the all-encompassing security programs, SS. If a computer user is an experienced user, then of course I would encourage them to do without. But it depends on the user. Some people are probably better off with their PC running in treacle, but secure.
  7. thirteen [baker's dozen]
  8. Thank you Chrisobee. Well at least one person read our posts. Two, if you count TDD [as a person - ouch, that's going to come back and haunt me ].
  9. Sorry Chrisobee, had to go off an actually do some proper work away from the computer. Who won, and do we have a 1,2,3..? Perhaps a photo is required to separate them. Enjoyed your input.
  10. Oh come on, TDD. Have a sense of humour.
  11. And... they're off..! And it's Sad Old Git taking an early lead, followed closely by Alpine Saint, TheDelldays, S-Clarke, Pilchards, John B, and the rest. Over the first jump, and it's Alpine Saints taking up the running, with Sad Old Git stumbling at the first. Followed by TheDelldays, S-Clarke, Pilchards, John B. Watching from the stands are mods Stevegrant and St Landrew, and they don't look too happy, do they Peter..? No Jim, I've got a feeling they think they seen this all before. Running conditions today are pretty soft going and it probably won't won't suit the leaders once the pack get into their stride... Anyone care to take up the running..?
  12. Well I for one, hope that Nicola allows Pardew's Record long enough time to turn into Pardew's LP [Long Player], with a renewed stylus, in a much higher quality [turn]table. Yeah, I know. I pushed that metphor for all it was worth. Which wasn't much.
  13. Tracking cookies are a normal part of accessing the net. People often run away with the idea that tracking cookies are some kind of virus which must be got rid of. Sure you don't want them there, taking up space, but security programs like Norton, McAfee, Bullguard, etc... only add to the idea that tracking cookies are some kind of manifestation of evil that will possess your computer and make it attack you in the night when you are asleep. Tracking cookies may reveal your browser habits to interested parties, but they won't make your computer jump on you, or go bang. So if you're really keen to see no more cookies, then set you browser to empty all temporary files and cookies upon closure. And Norton will suddenly find that there's very little out there to frighten you with. For many users, I would never say get rid of Norton, et al, because they do perform a worthwhile task. But there are plenty of online personal computers that get along perfectly well without all that security paraphenalia, and they don't attract viruses like magnets. So let's not overhype the danger.
  14. Well I suppose after reading what Pardew has said, the only thing we can do is back him. There's no point in recriminations now and there is very little room for maneuver, at this stage. The next two homes games have to be won, nothing else can be considered. Then we'll see where we are. It's after games where results haven't gone as well as we'd hoped that we show whether we are Saints supporters or just whingers.
  15. We won't know until it is mathematically impossible to make the playoffs. Then we can have this debate. Until then..

  17. I haven't been able to keep up. Has Dave whispered yet..?
  18. Yes. You get that one for free.
  19. Patience Alps. 5 mins in. Last week we were 4-3-3 until Hartlepool scored.
  20. polecat
  21. Of course he can't, but we all know what he means. He is deliberately exaggerating the point to give it weight. Sometimes it helps debate if people attempt to understand the point being made, then perhaps posters wouldn't resort to hyperbole. EDIT: And BTW, that goes for all sides.
