  1. Radio commentator Kris Temple mentioned that the match was the first League One game the referee had taken. His usual best was League Two. Whilst that shouldn't reflect on the ref's abilty, once again a questionable decision might be the difference between a club succeeding or not. The calls for technology to help referees are getting louder for the Premiership. It means just the same for Football League clubs. I really don't know why there is such a resistance. Get the cameras in, get the tests done, and let's get down to a football game, where we pretty much know 99-100% that the result of a game is the real one.

  4. Wrong Turn I should have gone to bed. But I tried my luck with another low expectation film, and Wrong Turn is turning out to be a lot better than I expected. It's a straight and simple horror film and is all the better for it. As I strayed into this right at the beginning, I can tell you a little bit about the scenario. Set in, and around the woods of West Virginia, various unrelated people get stuck in their cars by having to access a particular back road, because of a road block on the main highway. The cars come to grief from a stretched wire across the backroad. Several set off for help and end up encountering cannibals, who are disfigured from generations of inbreeding. What follows is a chase through the forest, with some quite graphic and suspenseful scenes. Not bad at all. Those low expectations are paying dividends.
  5. While watching the recent FA Cup game against Pompey, the usual rendition of Father's Gun had a resonance. Most of the time I'd rather it wasn't sung. Against Pimply, it can be sung every other tune, as far as I'm concerned.
  6. Aww... South Park is on Viva. I haven't seen an episode in years. I love it.
  7. I'm thinking of having a word with the Admin team so that you can have your own forum, Dog.
  8. You didn't see Rock Family Trees then. Was on TV last night. It examined the evolution of Black Sabbath. Just noticed it's on at 12.40am, just after a RFT programme on Deep Purple.
  9. Me, Myself and Irene It's amazing what low expectations will do for you. I came into this film while strumming, and then flicking through some channels [bollix, just remembered I forgot the Solar System programme on BBC2], and was slightly stunned by a gorgeous smile from Renée Zellweger. This isn't that bad a film. Perhaps, I'll edit this post if it goes dramatically up or downhill by the end. As I said, low expectations. Back to strumming.
  10. Glad to read you enjoyed yourself, hamster. In truth, getting into ANY type of proper boat, on any appropriate water, is sensational. It is a totally different feeling to most people's experience. Obviously, I have a preference for sailing, but one day, I'll do a canal again too. This time in a proper narrowboat. Maybe I'll be a complete convert, and never go on the salty blue again.
  11. Allowing for the fact that the distant dream never got off the ground, due to the bad start and minus 10, I'm sort of that opinion now, even though I think it is still possible for a team as good as Saints to make it into a playoff position. The real caveat is can an actual Saints team do it..? To be the epitome of a Saints team one has to be inconsistent. Brilliant by turns, terrible by another. This team isn't ever terrible, but its lows aren't good enough. It is a Saints team, and it needs to stop being one, and start to be consistent. It's going to have to learn how to do it for next season anyway, so it might as well start learning now. Listening to Leroy Rosenior, on the Football League show, he thinks almost anything is possible with Saints, and that they may still do it. Last time I checked, he was still a neutral, so perhaps, as a fan, I should have a bit more faith in my own team. Whatever.., it sure beats the hell out of a relegation fight.
  12. Wasn't it the chairman of a particular leading Serie A club who said he could see the day when, in order for there to be any crowds at matches they'll have to let people in for free, while all the fans will stay at home and pay to watch from the armchair. Very good for overseas fans though.
  13. That's the real problem. Time is running out for Rickie, and he could be playing in the Premiership next season, or possibly with Saints, when he's in his 30's. I don't doubt that Saints could fend off enquiries, but if Lambert hands in a transfer request, then it's over.
  14. Why..? We'd rather he stayed, and we certainly don't need the money. By all accounts, he's happy at Southampton, where he is very much appreciated. If, IF, we take money for him, it should be for ridiculous money to put clubs off. Put a price tag of £8M to £10M and suggest to any club that if they are rich enough to pay that much, then fine. The problem is, whatever striker one might replace Lambert with, is unlikely to be as effective, and be willing to play in League One, anyway.

  16. No you're not obsessed. Just misguided. Into General Sports where it belongs, and with the appropriate importance.

  18. Anyone who thinks the posters above are deluding themselves: Correction - 84:22 GOAL - Ian Thomas-Moore:Tranmere 2 - 1 Southampton Penalty taken right-footed by Ian Thomas-Moore and scored. Tranmere 2-1 Southampton. 84:22 GOAL - Ndiaye Papa Waigo:Tranmere 1 - 2 Southampton Ndiaye Papa Waigo scores a placed penalty. Tranmere 1-2 Southampton. Taken directly from BBC Sport Football. I was listening to the radio, while working, and unfortunately, there was never any indication of Papa Waigo taking a penalty. Of course, 5 minutes after Tranmere scored from their dubious penalty, Fonte was booked for alledged diving in the opposition's box for the very same soft penalty Tranmere had received. Commentator, Kris Temple said that the referee had well and truly lost it, by then.
  19. Exactly as I understand it, but you put it better.
  20. I'm not one for must-win matches. All matches are must-wins, from day one, if you intend to succeed. That mentailty allows for the odd slip-up, like against Tranmere. In a sense, we blew it after the first run of 10 games. That sequence alone, plus the -10, made the playoffs an almighty uphill battle. A task, all too familar for a mercurial, if ever-so-slightly inconsistent Saints side. But then, Saints sides are consistently inconsistent. It isn't over, until it's over. But it almost certainly is.
