  1. Good makes it all worthwhile thanks
  2. Saint Charlie - I have no idea what is this infraction you speak off but the player who was matey with Chas was John Fitchett (1902-03) or page 69 of the book
  3. Unfortunately no chance, they will be far too overawed playing in front of the bestest braying crowd in world history!
  4. just a shame that something like this attracts the reaction it does. Just wanted to post something some people (not everyone I accept) might find vaguely interesting. I found out this story about 2 weeks after "All the Saints" was published. (Cue more digs). Very frustrating but tonight I found out about another ex-Saint who appeared on the stage with Charlie Chaplin in 1911.
  5. Living History Um I had never heard of them as a company up until this story.
  6. That is an infinitely better opening line but I wrote the article in conjunction with his great grand daughter and not sure she would have approved
  7. For those interested in the club's history or for those who just like a gruesome murder. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/11028175.Sinning_Saint_who_escaped_gallows/
  8. My point was (probably badly made since I was still angry then) there is little respect for the fans these days. But as so many pointed out that's modern football. Like some I remain disillusioned but supporting the Saints is too ingrained in my blood and I will be hoping like hell we beat West Ham, particularly as I hate Nolan.
  9. I think I will pass on this one
  10. Hi - you could not be further from the truth. I want nothing from the club over and above what I receive which is fair and in line with what was agreed some 10 years ago. Cortese abruptly reneged on that deal but to their credit the new regime mended the bridge. Great. As usual many on Saintsweb have not really read or understood what I have been banging on about, preferring instead to make personal attacks. They can do that because they know who I am. They all do it behind an anonymous cloak. Disagree with me fine but throwing personal remarks around at someone is akin sending a poison pen letter. For the record Kelvin, at no stage have I said anything that was meant to be anti KL. I merely said I doubt whether she would be too bothered at our Cup exit, certainly not as bothered as the fans who went for instance. I have no idea what she intends to do with the club although whatever she decides it is her prerogative . My whole point in the OP was to highlight the fact that in this day and age the feelings, desires, expectations whatever you want to call it of the fans is no longer of much importance to those who own our football clubs. That is not a criticism of Ms Liebherr just a generalisation of why football is becoming broken. Obviously that does not worry a large number of postees on here but it worries me, hence my post. The Liebherr family's purchase of the club was a good day for this club but it was an even better day for the Liebherr family. That is hardly a sacrilegious thing to say imo but it sure seems to have rattled a few conservative cages. Some people fear the boat being rocked. And yes I have for once had a go back at a couple of posters, Viking Warrior and OldNick. In the context of what they said others deserved my venom much more but there is a bit of a "jump on the bandwagon ganging up mentality" on this forum and both men being decent people should not have joined in imo. It's like Alpine - every loves giving him a big kicking just because they don't like his views. I rarely agree with them but he deserves to say what he thinks without all the cyber bullying. Much as I would like to stay active, I can't really see the point of contributing my views to this forum if it means my personal life or old job or whatever is brought into the equation. There is just not much fun in it. I enjoy much of this forum, there is some bloody good humour and sensible postees but I am buggered if I am going to lay myself open to the personal crap. I doubt many of you would to be fair. Finally a word of thanks to Frank C. He and I - it is true - have rarely agreed on Saintly matters, but at least he had the guts and the decency to come on here and fight my corner a bit. If anyone wants me I will be on the Lounge where at least there is still a bit of fun and decorum. In the meantime will someone please look after Manji the nicest of them all and make sure he keeps taking the pills.

  12. Just wanted more people to read your views, hence my quick reply
  13. Ah so it's your fault
  14. I have already acknowledged the on field progress which has been marvellous (helped by spending a fair bit of money btw), but off the pitch very much less so. One day the fans will revolt and just stay away. I thought it so ironic on Saturday when the BT commentator was bemoaning the sub 17,000 attendance. He was completely oblivious to the fact that the early kick off for the sole benefit of plastic armchair spectators meant some fans (esp from Southampton) didn't bother. Less fans = less atmosphere = nervous television execs. It has already been mentioned on this thread but football started going downhill when clubs became less reliant on gate receipts because of sponsorship, tv revenue etc. That's all very well but you can't buy atmosphere despite what Man Utd are doing.
  15. isn't it time Old Nick became Old Woman? You're certainly starting to sound like one.
  16. Not a historian of football eh - I will point you to a couple of recent independent reviews. http://www.hagiologists.com/atsrev.htm And if the club has been so wonderfully run over the last five years why has the man who has been running it been replaced by the owner. Are you as thick as you sound?
  17. Bandwagon Bob, your ignorance is breath taking. Firstly I have not said I want a club run for the fans or by the fans just a little more recognition. Please be good enough to actually read what I say before hitching your skirt to the bandwagon of ignorance. No one is talking revolution - you made that up in your own little head, it must be the long dark nights up there. I am really glad you are pleased at the way the club is being run - presumably you are privy to all meetings and decisions or is that just blind faith on your part? Oh and I should be honoured that my book is now being allowed back in the shop, making the club money, adding to the 50 grand that Hagiology books have already made the club. I am so lucky, thank you for pointing that out, I had completely forgotten. Check my facts? - that is rich coming from a twerp like you who can't even type, spell or construct a sentence. You are not related by any chance to that old hag that used to sit at the bottom of the guillotine during the French Revolution cackling every time another head hit the basket?
  18. And I think that is where it all started going downhill as far as fan's are concerned. I guess it is evolution or progress but I don't agree with it hence the OP.
  19. So basically Frank you are saying the fans are irrelevant?
  20. Why? It's what I think. I have enjoyed the last five years and been very proud this season but I still feel the fans are way down the food chain these days. It is the same almost everywhere else too I accept. Will it change? No I guess not but I am not going to sit back and say it is wonderful being owned by the Liebherr company just because we have had five good years. For me it would be a lot greater if the fans were at least listened to when it comes to things like design of the kit. We are continually told how much the players value our support especially at away matches but this support is sometimes a one way street as we saw on Saturday. Do you think Pochettino spent one second considering the away fans at the Stadium of Light? No fans should not have seats on the board and no clubs should not be run for the fans but the fans' views need to be respected in certain areas.
  21. The land of make believe where no one is accountable for their views?
  22. Sorry Nick - this is a bit of a windbag post, tonight we are dealing with emotions. Not being rude because I accept you have put time and thought into your post and much of it makes sense but.......................sometimes common sense does not add up - just look at MP's team selections.
  23. yea I agree with this, esp the overlapping bit but aren't we becoming subservient? Just asking. Should we not be a bit more vocal in what we want. Our devotion to the Liebherrs is a bit nauseating tbh
  24. But what would be their motives? I bet we would not like them.
