  1. ********, as somebody who lives in the Alps I can assure you that you don't need a 4x4:(it won't harm you) but snow tyres should be enough. Anyway, there is no cold weather, just bad clothing. Long johns, tights, ski underwear, hats and gloves: no probs...
  2. You paying??:-)

My Italian footie team mates are amazed at 20k crowds in div 3: give me something even better to talk about...
  4. On thursday the OS said already 22k sold. Few more after today, I'd imagine...
  5. Nobody seems too sure?!
  6. I've seen him play, can't remember when, but thought he had potential and he did have a physical presence and height which seemed lacking in a lot of our youngsters. No problems with good small players but Gobern did seem to bring something else. Perhaps he'll not be so injury prone if he has finished growing and muscolo-skeletal problems no longer have the same impact.
  7. I actually remember a fair bit of disquiet here and with friends down the pub about the reverse take-over, the attempt to get shares off of a holder on the cheap and the fact that you wouldn't want to buy a used car off of Wiseman.
  8. I can understand why NA has been playing Lambert on the grounds that he needs to play himself into both fitness and the form we remember, but he must surely have come to the point where he must try the approach of dropping him.
  9. Plus it shows the others what they have to do to get in the first team, but that it's entirely possible even at that age. Ta MLG.
  10. See my comment above about what they expected for SMS and what happened. I think CBFry is being unduly pessimistic and Aintforever's post gives an indication of the wider interest. How many on here or in those 200,000 purchasers live outside the city itself? That reflects the wide ranging nature of the support. Let's face it, if we can get 30k against Exeter that's impressive by any standards and there hasn't really been much to set the pulse racing over the past few years, has there? Even in the Premiership we had few exciting players to watch in the latter years: Rory Delap ffs! In fact it's all been rather depressing. I agree that 40,000 is easily doable and the buzz of success is addictive so although we might be reaching some sort of natural limit there I don't think that it's a given. Cortese will have access to all the records so he at least will have a good idea of our potential.
  11. The best documented club ever: has it's own dedicated publishing company!
  12. Unfortunately yes, I believe.
  13. Yes PES, but where would they train, what is the set-up like? Will Pompey pay the University for the use of their facilities this month (or pay them 20p in the pound?), will the coaches be sacked next? We have consistently said here that you should have played your younger reserve team players instead of loaning them out and bringing in others you can't afford. Our team's approach has been to invest in youth and use them as well when the financial going got tough. Perhaps you might understand now why anybody approached now is going to be a bit cynical if not rude, and if it were a choice of recommending a player to a team Pompey are going to be last on the list.
  14. What I suspected and was certainly hoping for!:-) Basic commonsense as well!!
  15. 81. Loyal fans all over the world: for a third division side..
  16. Before we moved to SMS one of the directors was commenting that they had roughly budgeted for crowds of a third around 18k, a third around 24k and the rest, the top teams 28k, but presumably also hoping for some occasional bigger gates. In the event we saw what happened. Certainly going bigger would expand the market, allow decent prices for kids and students to recruit the fans of the future and obviously more corporate stuff. The roads are a problem but if the whole area were redeveloped I can see it being viable, introduce a tram/light railway service using existing infrastructure, even ferries across and down the Itchen, better bus services that load up and away on a shuttle basis at the end of games. How about better after match catering so that some people stay for a meal and/or drink after the game and a taxi and mini-bus rank for match days until later? Do any of you remember your/the first game at SMS and walking there from the pub and then emerging into the bowl? I'd like that experience again but in an expanded stadium.
  17. Can you give us a clue what the reply was?

    Dilema

I'd whole-heartedly agree with that. I'd take the chance and move to a place with an eye to transport links south. Will your GF say no to everything that you suggest in life? Better to test the relationship now rather than later. For her the kid is a big issue naturally as is being a carer, but those situations change too. Who is to say whether you are earmarked for other promotions which may well move you south again in quite a short time span - say a couple of years. It's far better to do this mobility thing when you are younger. Are you considering another kid, in which case get the hard career work out the way now rather than at the same time as really being needed more at home. Either way, good luck.

  25. Perhaps we should have a small cadre of Saints fans going to their away matches to teach the home fans a few songs, such as 'Fratton Park is a future block of flats, future block of flats, future block of flats...' Plus a few discussions in the pub to point out a few obvious financial facts...
